Believe it or not, I completed this game, without a cheat, after long hours of frustration, and listening to the tunes now, after so many years after, I still have them clear in my head!
they're not untouched, they are his own arrangements with different parts. which is nice because stage 2 is probably my favorite piece from ghouls and ghosts
They did a really job with the graphics. Given that the original is a 16 bit arcade machine, not too bad. At least in the looks and sounds dept. Frankly, I'm surprised they were able to capture the look of Ghouls and Ghosts so well.
The spectrum 128k version was pretty good too and it actually controlled a little better than this version, but as you say the scrolling makes all the difference.
ZEUSDAZ - THE UNEMULATED RETRO GAME CHANNEL I like the Speccy version and the title screen has a very good rendition of the tune that plays on Level 2 of the Amiga version of the game. It does control well but with no music during the game itself it does lose a little in terms of atmosphere.
Sorry to bother u, but I just wanted to tell u something that might interest u. Did u know that the person who did Turrican for the c64, except for the music, did the coding, graphics, and animation all by himself? Incredible, really!
It blows my mind that this is on the C64. Anyone know if this is a PAL or NTSC only release? Both the visuals (to include graphics and camera behavior) along with the soundtrack blow my mind.
have you ever thought of adding commentary to your videos? I think videos like the arkanoid one i just watched would be great with commentary. I havent seen a lot of your videos so you may have addressed this somewhere on your channel or perhaps you have done some with commentary not sure.
I'm already doing commentaries, i've done 8 already, are you subbed?!...if so you should be automatically notified of any new uploads of mine :-) Go to my channel and you will see a "let's play" section when scrolling down a little, i'm uploading another this evening.
This soundtrack needs to be an option on every other version. Less so the collision detection and that weird bug that makes you die if you hit a floor at the wrong angle...
----- - Man, I haven't played this in what seems like forever... And now that I think about it, those big guardian dudes towards the end there remind me of king Asgore Dreemurr from 'Undertale'. Or maybe it's just me and my wild imagination? -----
Probably because this game was ported with a cabinet based on a different DIP switch configuration, or that the developers at Software Creations toned down the difficulty on this one.
The Amiga/ST versions were a waste, considering the platforms. But pound for pound this was a really good conversion considering the c64. And the music is other-worldly, as others have said. WAY better than other stuff by US Gold like the Strider conversion etc This got lost among all that horror I think, plus when it was released the Megadrive version was coming out and that was pinnacle version at the time.. all overshadowing it and thats why its often overlooked/underestimated.
Well if the graphics count for you, you might as well play the Megadrive version...! Its what the Amiga version should have been at least, if they'd not done the usual thing with the 16 bits versions by programming for the lowest common denominator (The ST) as they usually did. But yeah the ST did feature the c64's Follin-original score..!!
It's a shame that this game got released to this platform in this form. It's a terrible port! I know if someone had a C64 (and no other console) then this game was a good choise for the system. But considering that this game got a Master System release. It really shows how quickly made this software. The C64 had a really good sound chip but they didn't used it the way it should. The C64 used an 8 bit processor just like the Master System and the Master system version look better and plays better.
@@ZEUSDAZ I see that we have VERY different viewpoints.Personally I think these port (including the first game) are trash. They made under rush for quick money. But then! Our saviour Nostalgia released an updated version in 2015.Now that's how you port an arcade game! (I reccomend you to check out.You will be gratefull) No missing levels,no missing songs or anything. You cannot ask for more. Nostalgia is a double edged sword. It can be really good to feel, but it can felt to anything that is not so good. These ports are that.In the 90's if you had no opportunity to play these game on the arcade or at least on the Mega Drive you would develop these kinds of feelings.Personally I like the MD version very much (and I never played this in my childhood).
@@johncarnege "trash"? Wow. They are both classic and well loved C64 games for a reason. The fact you can't even work out how to start the game, even after searching online, kind of undermines your opinion.
@@rootykazooty351 I managed to start the game.I really liked! The 2015 version. I know now why so many people like the old version.Because this is what they got back then. But compared to the Arcade or other ports it's really nt that great.
So much love for this game.... Tim Follin's music is just mindblowing
Yeah I love the title screen music, very spooky.
Believe it or not, I completed this game, without a cheat, after long hours of frustration, and listening to the tunes now, after so many years after, I still have them clear in my head!

If that's true then congrats, that is very impressive to get through this without any cheats :-)
I got to the final stage without cheats, but could never finish it. I was probably about 9 at the time.
@@fandangobrandango7864 I got to stage five too but dam I never could finish it either.
This game is hella hard, mad props to anyone finishing game without cheats.
I, too, managed to complete it without cheats. A lot of practice, but also a lot of luck: this game is unfair when it comes to collision detection.
Music is the best. Greetings from Poland!
Very sentimental...
Yeah I love the intro screen music.
TIM FOLLIN GREATEST GAMES COMPOSER EVER
It's crazy how almost every time I listen to a Tim Follin work I think "what's the big deal? This isn't so great. I could...hol' up. WTF."
Best Ghouls n Ghost i ever played, thanks for the Memory.
great music in this game.
Yeah it's pretty cool.
I dunno why he left stage 2 and stage 4's music untouched, but I liked how he expanded the main melody whereas other versions drastically change it
they're not untouched, they are his own arrangements with different parts. which is nice because stage 2 is probably my favorite piece from ghouls and ghosts
I guess 8bit couldn't handle the Loki/Lucifer boss fight.
Wow this is creepy wow tim follins genius is amazing
Great title music.
This music is really good
This Video Feels like it‘s Playing the Wrong Music
Like they ripped the soundtrack from a pirate movie, I’m expecting a dance troupe and some monkeys to swing by
Got as far as the 17 minute mark back in the day.
Could never have the patience now.
An excellent conversion.
They did a really job with the graphics. Given that the original is a 16 bit arcade machine, not too bad. At least in the looks and sounds dept. Frankly, I'm surprised they were able to capture the look of Ghouls and Ghosts so well.
agreed, a respectable conversion!
What a difference a scroll makes. Vastly superior to the Amstrad version in every regard really. Best 8-bit computer version I've seen.

once again it puts Amstrad to shame ! amazing for the c64 and these musics !
the take a key song was something special :)
Intro music was brill.
@@ZEUSDAZ and it is, all the music in this is a banger :)

Thanks for the interesting fact!
excellent port

This version is PAL.
@@ZEUSDAZ Thank you for verifying.
So it actually had a completely different soundtrack, very interesting, though a very good one at that, and by Tim Follin nonetheless.
I prefer the Mega Drive/Genesis version. Great music though.
yeh of course but for thr the 8 bit c64 this is admirable...

Don't mean to be a boff about it, but I found Ghost 'n Goblis in the arcade tougher than this. Could hardly get past the first level on that one.
+Cristian Crescinte
I found it hard on all formats, I used to own the arcade board but never got far in it :-(
Probably because this game was ported with a cabinet based on a different DIP switch configuration, or that the developers at Software Creations toned down the difficulty on this one.
The arcade version is very difficult. I imagine they took this down a notch because you had no jump button.
I always think this is crap on C64. It seems I'm wrong. I watched until the end. Game looks decent.
Cool, I hope you enjoyed it :-)
This certainly could have been worse, the music really helps the game!

@@Guitarsthatkill The Atari ST game is great. It has better graphics and very similar music, which I prefer to the Amiga game.
