      I've been saying for years Kia Hyundai use poor cheap wire harnesses which turn into electrical problems on the vehicles & now fires, I had a 16 Sorento what a nightmare almost everything broke electrical issues up the a** battery continually dying, moon roof wouldn't close just a disaster, they entice with the designs of the car but reliability eventually catches up to you... I remember Hyundai back in the 80s Pony Stellar were also disasters.

    Few month ago bought CX-5 for my wife. You can call me old fashioned, but somewhat conservative and timeless interior, premium feel of buttons and knobs, premium materials to touch and see, driving dynamics and comfort, nimble and very good sound insulation (tested almost all direct competitors) has taken my money. Hands down best for the price. And the extras you get for the price... very good quality head up display, ventilated front seats, rear heated seats, heated steering wheel, 360 very good quality 360 cameras, traditional automatic gearbox (no stupid variator), superb BOSE sound system, simple and very fast to operate infotainment system automatic matrix headlights, lane and distance keeping, double glazing windows for front side doors, black ceiling ... And the looks :) Especially blackout trim level with black wheels and black color. And almost no-one talks about warranty conditions and residue value. These things are VW and Toyota level (TOP :)).
    Not without flaws though :) Not the most comfortable front seats, lane keeping could stick more to center, poor quality carpeting inside trunk, only partially heated steering wheel, not so much space on back seats (adjustable inclination though) But nothing general, and most of things are done very well. @autogefuehl has made good points. Thanks for comprehensive review, fan of your work ;)

    We have an HRV (your review helped us a lot to decide BTW) and we love it! But it is worth mentioning that outside the urban areas and surroundings it struggles a bit. It is not designed for eating kms in the highway as the engine is not very powerful. But for urban everyday use it really excels, it is super practical and lovely to drive.

      I share the same experience - it helps if you don´t put in in eco mode on the Autobahn, you´d better put it in normal mode. But coming from a Diesel, I miss the low-end torque a little bit. However, the Diesel could not give me EV drive experience in the city. Can´t have everything, I guess. All in all, the HR-V still is a fantastic compact SUV!

    I would scratch the CX-5 from the list. I bought a new 2021 Mazda CX-5. I believe the CX-50 has the same engine. It has burned engine oil from day one and getting progressively worse. I looked up and found a bulletin for my car to be repaired. I took it in and they agreed that my car fell under that bulletin according to the VIN but, that I had to wait for the engine light to come on. By my calculation that won't happen until one oil change after my warranty is up. Don't take a chance and buy Mazda’s. They don't stand by their product unlike Honda. Mazda will do whatever it takes to avoid paying to fix the problem, even when they themselves admit that there's a problem. My advice, stick to Hondas and Toyotas. I’ve had problems with their cars in the past but, they always fixed my warranty issues without question and after that they ran forever. Don’t fall for talking point that Toyota and Mazda are now collaborating and even use the same assembly line. It means nothing. There's a class action lawsuit against them (Haven't responded). I personally have filed with the Mazda, BBB, Attorney General, and a consumer agency. It's been two weeks and nothing. I'm lining up a lawyer as my last resort. Don't go through this hell, buy a Toyota or Honda instead.

    I was waiting for such a comparison for a while now. Apart from the T-Roc all other cars are on my short list as candidates for my next car. It's a really tough choice, but I'm leaning towards the HR-V as I do most driving around the city and I have shorter commutes. The only down side I see with it is the small boot area :(.

    an interesting decision to use CX-5 instead of CX-30 in this comparison video. I'm now curious why? I honestly thought HRV will compete directly with CX-30 and CRV is a direct competitor to CX-5. correct me if I'm wrong.

    • @autogefuehl

      Depends, Corolla Cross rather has the size of CX5, HRV is more CX30. Its all small length differences when u go from model to model

    Funny - I live in Vietnam and am looking at exactly this selection of cars, though not all specs available here. I would probably go for the HRV (>$40k)or, for additional space, the Corolla Cross 1.8v ($41k). Avoiding hybrids (tech will go wrong, more costly to fix in developing countries) and KIA (its the LWB version - too big). Thanks for your vids Thomas, you deserve many more subs!

  • @snflas

    The corolla cross has some low quality interior plus small place in the rear all for a very high price ( it costs similarly to higher class suvs, such as rav4). Hrv looks so much better inside. Sportage is ok, but the delivery times are insane at 1yr :(

    • @fordgalaxie3726

    • @bodycounter9386

      Personally i feel Toyota did finally upgrade the interior. It has been one of their weekest points for years now. This model actually looks kinda pleasing in my opinion. The hybrid system will save you a lot of fuel in the long run though.

    • @snflas
      @snflas Год назад

      @@bodycounter9386 how ? Corolla cross looks worse in the interior, especially on the quality level compared to even a rav4 ( which is closely priced). And rav4 is quite old in generation/update. I did test them both repeatedly and the diff is visible

    • @bodycounter9386
      @bodycounter9386 Год назад +1

      @@snflas the new Corolla Cross has a fully digital cockpit, a modernized multimedia system and the newest safety and comfort features. The Corolla Cross does look less premium on purpose though. Toyota wants the RAV4 to be their premium SUV in the lineup, which is kinda sad especially considering the price of the Corolla Cross.

    • @snflas
      @snflas Год назад

      @@bodycounter9386 yup, exactly as i saw it. I really liked the car ( engine, utility, electronics inside), but at that price range with those cost reductions it doesnt look good. At a 10% discount it would be a fair price. The small difference between it and the rav4 or the crv which are another class isnt justifiable. And rav4 becoming a luxury suv. Youre right, but wtf :(.
