The HR-V had higher interior quality, but the Corolla Cross’ seats were much more comfortable. Which is more important to you? Tell us what you think in the comments below!

Both good cars for that segment. Not a lot between them to be honest. If I were shopping it'd probably come down to my feeling about the dealership and what they offered as the out the door price.
I'd just add that if I found the seats to be as uncomfortable as you suggest that'd probably be a dealbreaker.

@@edmundscars I really did. Lauren made a review of cars in one of the most mundane, commoditized, and mainstream segments actually relatable and appealing. She approached these two Compact Sport Utilities in a style that spoke to the every day consumer, which made her hugely relatable and personable. Plus, it is so nice to see a Woman's perspective and needs being put front and center for Car Reviews. It's not all about horsepower figures and 0-60 Times. Plus, women can be just as big a "petrol head" as any guy. I know, working in the Automotive Industry for over 10 Years now, I've worked with and for some incredible women who have a passion for Cars that put many to shame. It is great to see it recognized that women have tremendous buying power and influence when it comes to Car Shopping; whether buying for themselves, or as part of a couple or larger family unit. Not sure what Honda was thinking coming out with a car that is notably worse than the CR-V but costs nearly as much.

The rogue sport is actually based off of the European QashQai but they had to modify it so much to make it compatible with US press standards that they consider it structurally almost a different vehicle. Never seen Lauren before, but she's a breath of fresh air! And she did a pretty comprehensive comparison between the two covering aspects I haven't seen in comparisons of these two SUVs by other youtubers like how the Corolla Cross has a more accurate steering and more comfortable seats, for example, which are important to me. Interesting that she found the Corolla Cross slower being that it's more powerful and lighter; maybe the calibration of the CVT has something to do with it. Against the clock, however, I think the difference in acceleration would be negligible. Thanks for the informative and entertaining comparison; I don't need yet another automotive youtuber in my subscriptions, but I subbed just because of Lauren :)

I live in Colorado Springs and at over 6,000ft elevation the new HR-V seemed dangerously slow when I tested on highway merging, in city driving and mountain roads. I wish Honda would offer the 1.5l turbo or better yet a hybrid powertrain so the electric motors could help it with instant tq.
I will be testing the Corolla Cross next but I doubt it will be much better. With the exception of the electric motors in the hybrid giving it a much needed boost.

The lack of passenger amenities in the rear is a huge misstep in my opinion. You're absolutely right, it's those rear seat passengers (my kids, for example) that are going to want a way to keep their phones or tablets charged on a road trip and not having that as even an option on the highest trim level is odd. Same goes for the lack of a center console.

I purchased the Corolla Cross XLE and I totally agree with her. Test drive it before you buy it. I honestly would not have purchased it if I would have test drove it. The vehicle is really cute but the engine SUCKS. There is a real LAG, it has no get up and go about it. And when in cruise control its even worse. It scared me the 1st time I had it in cruise control and it accelerated, felt like it stomped the gas pedal to the floor then took forever to get the speed back up. And going up hills is HORRIBLE, I actually down shift to get up hills which is horrible since I live in a very hilly area. According to the dashboard im getting 28.7 mpg but im still on the fence about that. Overall the look is great but the engine has a LOT to improve on. Unfortunately I wasn't able to test drive this vehicle because there were none at the dealership, then I pre-ordered it on February 12th and didn't get it until July 25th even though I live 150 miles from the manufacturer. I am not a Toyota fan and based on this vehicle I will never buy another one.

Wonderful video! Many car demos on YT but the presentation here was entertaining yet comprehensive & informative without too much spec rambling.
That said, I'm torn between the two cars. I like the taller stature/ground clearance of the Cross especially with the XLE's larger wheels (I hate scrapping the front bumper or splash guard when parking), and also the rear vents, rear USB ports, and arm rest would be the winning point if I ever had backseat drivers except I don't and I don't intend to ever.
For me though, I really like Honda's interior design. Sure, I've seen nicer ones, Genesis, BMW, Tesla, maybe even the new Hyundai to some, but I like this more reserved look. Its a little utility meets a little luxury. Nothing gaudy . Minimalist approach. Just my cup of tea.
Plus green is my favorite color... Just gotta try out those seats!

Why didn't you guys just wait to review the 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross ? I think it would be more fair to compare the 2023 Honda HRV to the 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross.

What's updated with the 2023 Corolla Cross and when does it roll out? I'm sure they'll continue making reviews between competition so just give it time.

@@ALMX5DP The 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross comes with an Hybrid option which produces 194hp and and Toyota estimated 37 mpg combined. The vehicle is also updated to the latest Toyota Safety System 3.0 and now host Toyota's new infotainment system. They are expected to be available by the start of this fall.

@@romairoblackstock5100 sounds like a comprehensive update. I'm sure then another review will come out once it's available.

Obviously they would like to do as many videos as possible so that they milk out more views. But to be fair, even though the new updates have been announced, it hasn’t gone into production yet. Heck, even the Venza and Rav 4 which were updates a couple of months before Corolla cross didn’t go into production yet!
I’ve recently heard that the 2023 model venza will go into production in October and we might see them in showrooms by sometime November. So even if they wanted to do a comparison with the 2023 cross, they might have to wait until next year for that!

This isn’t a head to head review. This is why I like the Toyota cross spoilers (two USBs in the back). The entire video has the other HRV in the background I don’t have a horse in this race but it was obvious from this video that I might have stumbled on to a Toyota commercial. I think Toyota makes great cars and trucks. But I expect an unbiased video from a Edmonds. This is what I usually see in those car sales people videos on why you should buy the car they are selling.

If the seats are better than HRV, I would say Corolla Cross. Need for speed, the go hybrid. Also consider Subaru CrossTrek 2.0 Premium -- nice. And symmetrical AWD

A 2.0NA, a CVT and AWD- quite the underpowered combo. I would not purchase either as they currently are.

Lauren, thanks for pointing out the uncomfortable seats in the HRV. that's a deal killer right there. if you're going to redesign, then make it more thoughtful, Honda.

I am waiting for the Corolla Cross Hybrid. The addition of an electric motor should add some power and improve the acceleration.

Probably I'll go for Toyota C cross. Honda Hrv backseats don't have ac vents, arm rest & charging port. What a blank!

Lauren, you didn’t say anything about the lack of rear air vents in the Honda HR-V, or mention that the Toyota Corolla Cross has them. As a parent with 2 kids that is something that is needed. My family has had 14 Honda cars, we feel they have gotten cheaper in what they are not providing. They are using the same dash on almost all of their vehicles,
We will be purchasing (3) 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid this time around. Good bye Honda

I just drove a HRV Sport and its seats were not bad to me at 52. Acceleration ... well these cars are not made for that. Just ordered a HRV EXL for my son

Both of these were in my list for a b segment suv, but after a lot of consideration I settled with a peugeot 2008 because it's just a lot better experience in sitting in one and I don't like cvt transmission they're too laggy.

European Cars are more comfortable and more engaging to drive, but putting up with the reliability record is simply unacceptable in this day and age.
