UConn's defense holding Clark to 21 is probably the best you can do to give yourself a chance. What Iowa did to Paige holding her to 17 is even more impressive.
Hannah Steulke and Kate Martin came through clutch + the bounce back from CC after getting strapped up in the first half by Nika Muhl, gotta respect this team fr
Nika did a great job defending Clark, I did not see much illegal contact at all. Most of her defense was keeping Clark from even getting the ball running around full court and playing all 40 minutes.
This game clearly demonstrated why I much prefer watching women's basketball to the men's game. It's the fundamentals played below the basket. The women have it all now plus the range. Utterly amazing.

As a hard-core UCONN supporter, I am very proud of UCONN's performance. I did not expect UCONN to go far in this tournament .To be in the final four and almost in the finals, that is fantastic. We hope to get all our injured players back next year. Congratulations!
It really was. I'm from Iowa and I'll admit, UCONN gave Iowa all they could handle, it was a very evenly matched game and could've gone either way. Good luck UCONN next year!
For one who was rooting for Iowa, you have to give Coach G of UConn the Coach of the Year. Why? His entire starting lineup was decimated by injuries. UConn will learn from this and bounce back, that you can see from here. This was NOT Coach G's best team, yet he coached them to the Final 4. All hats off to what the Lady UConn team did.
Iowa’s role players just gave Clark some extra confidence going into the ship knowing they’ll step up when needed. Clark needed every bit of her teammates contributions tonight, and they showed tf up big time.
I'm not gonna lie..and the real hoopers will know what im talking about. Uconn was soooo effective running the golden state splits...so many screen diversions, off ball misdirections. Such a beautiful thing to see when everything is so orchestrated and the fluidity is so consistent. Definitely a well played game from both teams.
Martin was having a bad game, and she put the team on her back with those two buckets toward the very end of the game. Underrated clutch points in a one possession game
@@snopro2375 Yeah that was crazy. She hit clutch shots all night and then almost gave the game away. You definitely don't want the ball in her hands that far away from the basket late in a game. She kept picking up her dribble for no reason

I do remember a Purdue tourney game where just one player blew a decent lead by handling the ball absolutely terribly and wasting like 4 or 5 straight possessions. @@Golf05 I actually think UConn is better than Iowa, the best team don't always win. like Staley said Cardoso is the matchup that SC has to win. Keep throwing bodies at Clark, wear her down, SC has depth use it.
@@Mazel_Tov_888 We'll see. SC was heavily favored last year against Iowa and CC was firing on all cylinders in helping seal the upset. May be different this year because it's hard to beat that loaded a team twice in a row so here's hoping for a competitive game either way.
Let's see how relevant Iowa women's basketball is after Clark leaves. They weren't that great before her. I guarantee you they won't be the focal point of women's college basketball after this season. Clark puts them on the map and viewership of that team will disappear when she leaves.
Disagree. Our team, UConn, Stanford, LSU, and Tennessee are powerhouses. Iowa is a blip on the radar these past few years all because of having a superstar player. The rest of the team without her would be 18-12, at best. They have some decent players coming back, and coming in, but that coach mortgaged her future off of CC and now she’s going to have to actually remember how to coach again after riding high these past few years. Keep in mind that Iowa needed Clark to score over 1/3 of their points on average, to win. That’s completely unsustainable. Meanwhile our program is returning 8/9 from our rotation, including our beast freshmen. Plus we’re adding 3 5-star recruits, plus a potential transfer. LSU is returning several key starters and capable bench. UConn will return much of the depth plus the number 1 recruit, and Bueckers will return. Stanford will be Stanford, and be primed for another deep run. Those are powerhouses.

Women's college basketball always had great players. You're just late to the party and feeding into the ESPN hype. I'm glad for my wallet that Iowa won, but I wish they had actually won it by making Bueckers take a contested shot with Stuelke closing on her instead of having a ref's predetermined whistle prevent any possibility of a buzzer beater. I'm a Uconn fan. Congratulations to Iowa. I have admiration for their entire program & sincerely wish them the best. To the rest of women's basketball world I say three things before commencement of my off season hibernation: 1- To the college basketball powers that be, please take serious steps to bring the officiating in the women's game up (even remotely close) to the men's. This *must* be done. 2- To Uconn's coach & company, from top to bottom, we are well aware of the severity of the 3 year injury decimation you have endured & have carefully noted the astonshing success you have achieved given the godawful circumstances. Your grit and class has fostered (even) more devotion among Uconn Nation than ever. We love you and could not be prouder. 3- Some perspective: Injury plague or not, Uconn has made the Final Four 14 of the last 15 years. Ponder that for a sec & remember that it's likely next season this plague *will* finally wane or end end. Finally, woe unto those who ridiculously pronounced Uconn done. Geno has jam packed his roster with premium talent. I know, several other schools are talented too. I'm aware of that, but how many have 3 ESPN Hoopgurlz #1 ranked players? Answer: 0. My humble prediction is that next season Uconn will remind the skeptics that the mightiest dynasty in history of women's sports is alive & well and shifting gears. Go Huskies! P.S. WELCOME SARAH!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kate Martin...amazing...Gabby, Steuke, all of them...and CC of course. I could not even watch this game my nerves but i watched the last 3 minutes. wow.
I so admire the sportsmanship of women's basketball. The respect for the other team is quite apparent, unlike some men's basketball games. In the 20 years I've watched women's basketball, the quality has grown. Despite the deplorable politicization by the media, who insist upon comparing the women's to the men's game, there is plenty to watch and enjoy in the vigorous competitions of women's basketball.
What a great game! Can you imagine if the Uconn women had its full roster, healthy and available? Be proud . The girls played way beyond what was expected.
5 of UCONN’s best players are injured and out for the season. It is crazy. If they were healthy they would have been the only team that could have beaten SC. Iowa can play their beat game of the year and SC will still pull away and win by 5 - 15 in the 4th Quarter.

Fantastic game! I knew it was going to be up to the other girls on Iowa to step up and be the difference. Martin was CLUTCH on offense, and her defense on Bueckers was hugely important. Stuelke was a walking bucket all night. It was just a thing of beauty, to see those other girls step up while UCONN scrambled after Clark with a passion all game.
Stuelke has proven time and again she can be the Scottie Pippen of her team. She had a really tough night inside against the bigger Edwards, but managed to be the leading scorer. UConn's strategy of absolutely swarming Clark on the defensive end was the right move, but the rest of Iowa's team proved that stopping Clark didn't stop them.
The fact that this was a nail-biter is the best thing that could happen to generate more interest. That said, glad Iowa made it to the final game. It shall be epic.

ThankYou Caitlin and Iowa--- so many young kids will remember you forever!
I have refereed for 30-plus years. The call made by the ref on the moving screen was absolutely correct. The player from IOWA that she illegally screened was the player receiving the ball for the shot. She was not a player out of the play. Had she not called the foul and UConn had made the shot, an illegal play would have caused the Iowa loss. Basketball has become too much an offensive game and very physical. The Iowa player did not embellish. She was clearly a smaller player impeded by a bigger player. The announcer said she leaned out. She moved both feet and did not assume a guarding position (2 feet on the floor and facing before contact). You never want a call to determine the outcome of a game unless the foul was obvious. In my view, this referee had the GUTS to make the tough call. It would have been so much easier just to let it go. This call will be questioned by those who do not know the game or favoured UConn and say they were robbed. I am not an Iowa fan or a Clark fan .. I am a referee.

UConn's defense holding Clark to 21 is probably the best you can do to give yourself a chance. What Iowa did to Paige holding her to 17 is even more impressive.
That was Gabbie Marshal defending Paige.
Hannah Steulke and Kate Martin came through clutch + the bounce back from CC after getting strapped up in the first half by Nika Muhl, gotta respect this team fr
I've been impressed with Gabbie Marshall too

Nika did a great job defending Clark, I did not see much illegal contact at all. Most of her defense was keeping Clark from even getting the ball running around full court and playing all 40 minutes.
This game clearly demonstrated why I much prefer watching women's basketball to the men's game. It's the fundamentals played below the basket. The women have it all now plus the range. Utterly amazing.
They interviewed Hannah Stuelke at the end and she was all class; humble, introspective and kind, her family must be proud.

Thank you.
Merci.
That call at the end was suspect as heck.

They definitely had a game plan coming into this one
I'm not gonna lie - either. UConn hc is 'prob' on code and in the truest form, he capitulated...
Yes Indeed 💯 Agreed. Connect did run 💯 Golden Splits Action, Excuted Very Well, Especially off the Inbound Pass🏀🏀🏀👏👏👏
BOTH of these teams run excellent plays -I haven't seen so many beautiful give-n-go's by IOWA since the '69 NY KNICKS.
They’re both way better than how they played .
Entertaining, hard fought game! Stuelke was huge and Kate Martin with some clutch late buckets. Amazing defense by Muhl too while playing hurt.
Martin was having a bad game, and she put the team on her back with those two buckets toward the very end of the game. Underrated clutch points in a one possession game
Stuelke almost cost Iowa the game with those turnovers at the end though.
@@snopro2375 Yeah that was crazy. She hit clutch shots all night and then almost gave the game away. You definitely don't want the ball in her hands that far away from the basket late in a game. She kept picking up her dribble for no reason
@@_JellyDonut_Either she mentally was seizing up (it happens) or she purposely was shaving points (that happens also). I do remember a Purdue tourney game where just one player blew a decent lead by handling the ball absolutely terribly and wasting like 4 or 5 straight possessions. Sometimes mental breakdowns happen but this also can be a sign that a player is involved in gambling.
@@ryanjacobson2508 I'm sure she was a little nervous but it's mostly that she's just not a good ball handler. Almost every time she touches the ball it's in the paint.
Clark stayed home, helped build Iowa in a powerhouse. She's a great story.
Let's see how relevant Iowa women's basketball is after Clark leaves. They weren't that great before her. I guarantee you they won't be the focal point of women's college basketball after this season. Clark puts them on the map and viewership of that team will disappear when she leaves.
Couldn’t finish the story. She’s no goat.

To the rest of women's basketball world I say three things before commencement of my off season hibernation:
1- To the college basketball powers that be, please take serious steps to bring the officiating in the women's game up (even remotely close) to the men's.

Clark tossing the ball off the defender’s back to waste .3 of the 1.1 seconds left in the game was both a high i.q. play and honestly a funny moment
The officials had put more time on the clock after review, so it actually wasted an extra two seconds. Brilliant play.

Hannah Stuelke player of the game
Last year Catlin Clark said that Hannah Stuelke had the potential to become the best player on the Iowa team. Stuelke was great tonight.
