Regarding the ending A2 took the virus from 9s and transferred to herself and in game she didn't leave with the ark and just decided to die.

Tbh i don't think you'll understand more after playing the game, i think anime explained it overall in better way, its just the type of anime you have to pay close attention to every dialogue and whats shown on the screen even pause or rewatch the show completely to catch things you didn't see, something similar to 86 or AoT. There is a lot of double meanings/foreshadowings or references to stuff hidden in there so... Also overall Nier/Drakengard series are really connect and are not straightforward, even if you played the games you can still have hard time understanding some things without analysis videos or reading lore descriptions and all...

In the most non-spoilerish way possible:
Bryan's ending in the game wasn't exactly what was shown here. A2 in Bryan's ending saves 9S from the machine network and after he's out, she makes the network collapse. At that point, she thinks the tower is still a cannon aimed at the lunar server. She sacrifices herself so 9S can live (fulfilling 2Bs wishes), avenges her comrades (destroying the red girls) and fulfills what's left of her built-in imperative to protect mankind's remaining data/genome in the moon site.
This ending in the anime is confusing because she does the whole destroying act but the machine ark still takes off, which only happens with 9S's ending, which I'm guessing Bryan never got.
It's more of an artistic choice because they take a dialogue from this ending, another from the other one, this visual here and this visual there. It kind of works.
What comes after with the pods is an inventive way to represent what happens in the true final ending of the game, which is tough to pull off outside of the video-game medium.
Anyway. It was nice watching your reactions all these past weeks and the insights and BattleStar coincidences (which I've mentioned are probably not accidental).
This game is a gem because it makes you think like rarely any media does nowadays. The game fleshes it all out more, but this was a very worthy adaptation.

@@TheGenreVerse The first Nier game was a spin off of Yoko Taro's other franchise, Drakengard. One of the endings leads to a dragon appearing on Earth and descending onto a city, the story told in the anime briefly at the beginning of Devola and Popola's backstory.
Accord is a character from Drakengard who is some kind of dimension hopping android. There are little Easter Egg references to her in Nier is all. The resistance shop guy said off-hand that he gets all his goods from Accord. She appears briefly there at the end of the episode with her briefcase as a simple Easter Egg.

The girl at the end, her name is Accord she's from Drakengard 3. She is important to the whole lore of Drakengard and Nier. If not mistaken she was created to watch over timelines and i guess it's safe to say she's either directly or indirectly save the anime timeline from collapsing hence the wink or maybe I'm going too far with in my head.

In Accord documentation in the complete series of the Numbers Code, the last episode has a sinister message "the two survive through whose survival a great catastrophe happens" perhaps a teaser for an upcoming new Nier game

Some backstory to project Yohra is that the most early Version of 9S has build Yohra and the outcome he was god for the project as far as I remember

Nier Automata is a game that really only works strictly because the medium of choice is a game. I was concerned for that reason when the anime adaptation was announced. I believe they've done as good a job at telling this story through anime as was possible. However there is so much that gets lost in translation. All you have to do is watch an interview or two with the game's creator to know there was no way to condense his madness completely into 24 episodes. I'm really happy with how they handled it, though, especially A2's backstory. That portion was basically just a text adventure in the game and fleshed out more through stage plays. It was a treat to see it put together and animated.

Don't get me wrong, the anime adaptation is very well made,
but the ending with 042 and 153 fighting against the protocol is still better experienced in game play, it's much much powerful there.
Also, that is the TURE ending of the game, happens when you load up the last fight and chose to control the other character,
it's really a huge shame that Brian didn't get to experience it.

This is considered an good ending, in the game doesn't exist happy ending and bittersweet endings are the best endings.
They combine a little of several endings in the final ending. The last part of the episode was completly different in the game

This new ending is really good, but as I can see to your reactions, the lack of knoledge about the Drakengard/NieR lore can make it really confusing and for that I think anime might not really be a good introduction to the series despite being a good show anyways. Would I still recommend it to someone that know nothing bout the series ? Absolutely, cause it's a good opportunity to make people more invested in the series so I guess confusion is not that much of a bad thing :'D.
Loved following your reaction on this one ! Thanks~

    • @xxx-ms4yr
      @xxx-ms4yr 2 дня назад +1

i don't think its that not "good introduction". Anime is completely fine, its just that you have to watch it carefully, listen to everything characters are saying because there are double meanings/forshadowings and references, also pay attention to how characters react to stuff and even look at the background because there are hidden things. Its not served to you directly, you actually have to think just like 86 or AoT for example. I personally think its not suited to group react because they missed a lot of stuff because of talking most of the time, i watched multiple people that react alone without playing the games and they understand things pretty well. Also Nier/Drakengard series overall are not clear even when you played it just like FromSoftware games, there's so much story bits/lore in the description of items, character designs music, we also have light novels, manga and concerts...

The scenes in the tower are a combination of ending C and D. In C, A2 pretty much sacrificed herself for 9S. In D, 9S is given a chance to get on the ark. Ending E, where everyone is brought back is mostly the same except for the inclusion of Accord.

  • @ryc03

The game "E" ending was designed to be specifically applicable to a video game media only. Here, I can see that they make a successful attempt to rework it to be applicable in TV show perspective, and hencea new "E" ending.
The final scene might be a tie-in to the (now shutdown) Nier Reincarnation mobile game, as I have not played the game (my phone could not run it), I am not too certain though...

A littel story after Nier automata from this years concert "end of data"
After 2B was revived by the Pods on September 5, 11945,[2] 9S awakens on September 19 next to 2B. Still needing further repairs, the pair decide to scavenge for transporters to obtain the necessary YoRHa-specific parts on October 22.
On October 25, the pair notices that the transporters contain messages and memories of the old world. The information pieces together and point to the existence of Eden, a hidden underground complex used to store YoRHa technologies. 2B and 9S begin traveling to the location.
At one point in their journey, the pair also discover an old manor.[Note 1] 2B realizes her black box is still damaged from when A2 first killed her, though keeps it a secret from 9S. Still, 9S takes notice and deduces the irreparable issue.
After traversing a sandy area, the androids descend a spiral staircase into darkness. Inside is an abandoned alien mothership with crimson words scrawled on the wall, from "a man who lost someone most dear."[Note 2]
2B and 9S discover a transporter deep in the structure which opens to reveal the ruins of a city covered in white crystals. The city is occupied by hostile machine lifeforms that ambush the androids. Further transporters are present throughout the city, instead offering memories about topics unknown to 9S, such as Project Gestalt, White Chlorination Syndrome, Yonah, and The Red Dragon.
The pair venture deeper to discover an incomplete replica of the Bunker. Cables are strewn about and thicken into a forest-like environment, which soon is riddled with damage from teeth and claws. Shades are encountered, as well as the memories of a Gestalt called Louise. Eventually, the pair find themselves in a copy of the hanger, where cables form into the shape of a colossus that terrorized the old world.[Note 3]
Ultimately, 2B and 9S arrive at a darkened chapel. The interior is littered with approximately 100 YoRHa android corpses surrounding a large, black sphere. The Pods are unable to discern the sphere's function, and 2B speculates that the chapel was used by the androids as a place of worship in their final hours.
2B reflects on the location, and she collapses as her Black Box fails at last. 9S curses and prays with 2B's demise. Thereafter, he watches as fragments of the YoRHa corpses' Black Boxes form a circle of light and repair 2B's box. The unknown black sphere crumbles and is destroyed.
While the pair don't understand the strange occurrence, they suggest that it could have been a hidden feature of Machine Cores. Instead of focusing on fighting machines or protecting humanity, 2B and 9S agree to simply embrace the world as it is, no matter how sullied the journey's path might be.
