As a new player to GSC, I think these boxes are great. I bought 2 of the last patrol boxsets and some genestealers, 1 squad of bikes. So this expands my army in different ways, more genestealers and aberrants to go that way, more trucks and bikes for mechanized list if it works out, more metamorphs or hybrids, more Neophytes if I need to, and ridgerunners. Saying that, I can see how some people who have been playing them longer may not enjoy the boxsets. You'll probably never have a better patrol boxset like last one, I do like how it's different options, so you have a chance to expand for cheaper. .....if you bought the old boxset of course.
I think one of the best parts of playing a human(and gsc) faction, is you've got lots of other armys to draw on. Guard, Sisters, ad mech, Imperial Agents and GSC can all kinda borrow bits and bobs from eachother. Just not quite as great as being an ork and being able to snag da good bitz from whoeva wez want to.

Hachette's Combat Patrol Magazine has me worried at the moment. Between the test run and the actual product there were changes to at least Imperium and Stormbringer, small changes but changes. At least I hope that it really includes the old CPs and that the old ones weren't just a placeholder for the new ones. Because of those included, only the Space Marines and Tyranid CPs were already known in the new variant. For me: if old CPs, then hopefully a publication here in Germany (like Conquest, Imperium and Stormbringer - Mortal Realms was not published here) and then I have 2 subscriptions. If there is also the announced Premium content, then both subscriptions will also become Premium.
I managed to pick up one of the old Combat Patrol at the discounted price when they got discontinued, so I would very much like to get the Battleforce and new Combat Patrol to finish out a varied force of the army as a good starting point! Probably get more Neophytes over time. Good video!

As someone who bought 3 of the old GSC combat patrol, I’m pretty stoked about the new one. We knew it was going to be bad but it could’ve been worse ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
HOW TO START GSC CHEAP: Ebay sometimes have listings for Deathwatch Overkill for $120-$150. These don't have the Space Marines and/or are partially built sometimes. The models are all push-fit mono-pose but you get everything you need to start an army.
I just picked up the satanic broodsurge battle force at 182 USD on Amazon. I’m happy, it feels like a solid discount over buying separately at that price.
Honestly I think if you make a few armature with empty head and arm sockets you can have both Acolytes and Metamorphs which gives you more infantry more units and more points per dollar.
Honestly all they needed to do for these CP was to just add in one extra unit to make up for what's being taken out (Sisters for example lost both a Rhino+PE without anything taking their place). As for anyone who'd bring up balance for the CP game mode, take a look at the Custodes box and their rules. Custodes are only able to use 40-50% of their box in CP mode, this means GW could give great value in the boxes, and then adjust the rules/ limit units in the game mode to balance.....but that doesn't maximize profit.
I’m fine with GW changing combat patrol boxes into sets of models to be played against other Patrols but not fine with them refusing to change the price to match.
The third thing a CP box should do (and IMO most important) is be fun and effectove to play in actual games of combat patrol. I like to get CP boxes i know i'll never have the army for just for combat patrol game variety
