You really decided to call my celica and I put didn’t you
Im glad lotus is sticking around, the evora is one of my favorite cars ever
I agree! I hope their new SUV rakes in cash to bring more sports cars to the US market
New Esprit has been spotted testing. Apparently gonna have a V6 hybrid 600bhp
@@TheHesK9 LC500H powertrain with Manuel 🤔
@@Baggged_LC possibly. Would be a huge jump up in BHP though
The Elise here ✋
Daily drive my Evora...mostly interstate miles plus the longer trips to get to the mountains between eastern Tennessee and western North Carolina as this region is replete with beautiful stretches of twisty mountain tarmac . I get about 90 - 95 % smiles per mile as in my Elise but I get virtually 100% greater practicality, livability in the Evora. Great cars
How has reliability/service network been?
What u do for a living
@@TheLiveCartoons My man is asking the real questions
@goldenlight Extremely comfy for me, even on long trips, unlike my Elise. Now, depending upon the model/year the interior will not be as refined/ergonomic as the M5 but from the Evora 400’s to present, not too bad. The earlier S and NA models had crappy interiors comparatively speaking . This notwithstanding, I drove my 2011 S model from BOE fabrication in Kansas to Columbia SC and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very comfy with zero complaints save for the fact I have no cruise control !
@@TheLiveCartoons I’m an internal medicine physician.
These POV reviews are just the best way to experience the cars, I love it. Evora is super cool too!
Thanks Aron!
Finally, a review of this car from someone who knows how to talk about sports cars.
Thanks mark!
I'm continuously amazed at how good the Evora sounds at 5k rpm and up in every video I watch. And I'm sure it's even better in person. What a sweet car and I love that blue color!
What a thing!
I agree with you Mr TheTopher.
thank you for actually showing what its like to get in the back and showing the back a little bit, many car reviewers are just like "yea and yall know the back is too small for most people so we aren't even gonna try that" and skip it
You seem at absolute home talking in front of the camera. First video I've ever watched of yours, i looked down half expecting to see half a million subs -- I have no doubt you'll blow up soon. Subscribed, bring more Lotus content :)
Cannot thank you enough for this comment! Some days are better than others but I do my best to find the right words to describe the experience.
You might be referring to the earlier Evora differences. I have a 400, and it's got the same interior layout, same splitter, same engine look, etc. The only noticeable differences are in some of the exterior vents.
It's good to see how far Lotus has come. The Emira is basically a Gen 2 Evora, and that's a good thing.
I really like this car, plus it has a toyota engine, japanese reliability.
too heavy
@@Video-Games-Are-Fun Not as heavy as you would think.
@@Video-Games-Are-Fun its like 3200 pounds...thats not too heavy unless you are comparing it to a Miata.
These cars are made around 20 minutes from where I live. I sometimes see them tearing down the highway. Makes my day every time - special cars.
Hethel, Norfolk, UK. Home of Lotus for 40+ years.
Those mirrors are a crime against the car design gods. Lovely review.
Would love to drive one of these some day. I'm a huge fan of a "drivers car" if you know you know. The interior looks nice as well especially with that shifter.
I just bought this exact car from Aston Martin/Lotus of Boston. Nice job on the review and can't wait to get this out to San Diego
It’s a great car! Congrats on the purchase
That was a great impersonation of Sam lol! 😂
The Evora GT looks and sounds great!
thatdudeinblue said that this car was the real modern nsx and i have to say he isnt wrong. this v6 sounds just like a j series and the ideas appear to be the same well done lotus
To be an NSX doesn’t mean to be light and etc. it’s to take the technology of the time and put it in a cheaper package reliably. Lmao. Back then it was all aluminum body, light weight. Today it’s hybrid tech. Thatdudeinblue is just a fanboy.
I thought I peeped a mad Lotus romping around town the other day! Nice!
Cold weather testing 🥶
@@TedwardDrives always adds a bit of thrill! Plus, there are a few heroes out there daily driving stuff like this year round in these parts
Hopefully they are running appropriate tires 😆
Thank you. i've loved Lotus Evoras since I 'met' one at the Irving Gas in Warner, NH about 2013. Your POV's are excellent to watch. I've been binging. First of Tedward's I saw was last week, your XK120 drive.
I love Lotus. The Evora has come a long way, what a wonderful car!
Love the fact that you can see the linkage in the rear view mirror when you shift gears etc!
As of today (25/01/21 or 01/25/21) Lotus has announced they’re ending production of their Elise, Exige and Evora platforms.
I’m not crying, You Are!!! 🥲😢
Really a cool spec. I still wonder about that billet shift know. Are those now isolated that they don’t get super hot in summer months?
Bring your Avenger gloves just in case 🧤
The only supercar I'd buy if I had the money. Not only is it the cheapest one out there, but it's purely simple and not complicated. It also has the same engine as my Camry with 220,000 miles.
Fire review bro. Lots of good info 🫶🫶🫶
Great review of an amazing car! Man Lotus no how to make a proper drivers car
The interior reminds me a tad bit of the Toyota 86 simple yet sophisticated I like it
0:00 Lmao that burn.
Subscribed.. I recently stumbled upon your videos. I like your approach! Thanks for a true review!
Awesome shots! I really like this car. Happy Holidays Tom!
Thanks and you too!
My wife's dream car. Sent the video to her, thanks for the review.
Want to review my ford gt in the spring time
yes, I would love that! DM me on instagram @tedward_ig or email me at tedwarddrives@gmail.com
😍 the looks, the sound ohhhhhhhh
This decade is gonna to be huge for lotus. They've now got huge financial backing. Just have a look at the Evija! New Elise should be coming next year and a new Esprit with a rumoured 600bhp V6 hybrid was spotted testing near the factory
I would LOVE to see the elise and exige back in the American market. I just made a video with the Evija. So crazy that Lotus might have one of the first EV hypercars to hit the market.
@@TedwardDrives incredible turnaround. I live in Norwich which is the city the Lotus factory is in. I've always wanted to work there but the job security was awful before, but it's looking pretty good now! I can see Lotus rejoining F1 again as well!
It's a Ford key. Pretty common. I think the car uses a Ford supplier for the BCM. Focus stocks and some switches. The key is used by Jaguar too and london Taxi's
I saw one of these at Limerock a few moths ago. It had two child seats in back. I was jealous.
The Elise/Exige was a good comparison with the Corvette in price and performance, just different approaches.
The Evora and C8 are also an interesting comparison, because both are mid-engine, though the Chevy trades its rear seat cargo space for a frunk and the Lotus has a manual transmission.
This may be my 2nd or 3rd time watching this video! Love it :)
Love the rear end, those taillights are perfection
Pretty damn impressive sound for a V6, especially if the speakers aren't help (not sure).
No fake engine sounds here...it really is a cool sound!
That's one nice MR2. Since it's the 3.5 toyota Motor, Aisin transmission, and toyota gauges..
In a completely Lotus designed chassis and body, set up by Lotus engineers, with engines tweaked and mapped by Lotus, tested on the Lotus test track and the roads around Lotus HQ, Hethel, Norfolk, UK. Lotus Engineering do lots of work for car companies around the globe. Apart from that... it's just a Toyota MR2. 😉
Lol...everything you said about the your first experience with an Elise was exactly how I felt about the Exige-S. But I still bought it because it was so cool to drive.
I’m so surprised the dealership allowed you to drive the car on those tires ( in those weather conditions).
Bravo Lotus.
Lotus is really something else loll
As a low volume manufacturer, they simply reversed the dash and completely ignored the need to creating left hand drive mirror molds to match. you will notice in all other manufacturers, the mirror molds are actually specific to the drive position because left and right drive vehicles have different shapes to achieve the proper angle to be able to see them. Stare at your cars from directly above and you will clearly see this offset on any car (that doesn't hide this fact with symmetrical moldings but asymmetrical innards. the mirrors themselves are always asymmetrical. Next time you get in an Evora, jump into the passenger seat as though it were the driver's and suddenly the mirrors both work nicely.
Actually, the same is true for quite a few other "last minute" imports of rarer cars that were never intended for LHD. In the middle east and the philipines, the Skyline R32-34s that are LHD are such a case.
Unless Lotus changed something, there actually is something that opens on the front. That little section between the grills just at the bottom of he windshield opens up to access some fluid filler locations, I believe.
Still there
I love it, keep up the great work!
Thank you :)
6:33 “this knob is gorgeous”
Great video. I’m really glad I discovered the channel! What a sweet Lotus! It seemed slow though. Not sure why 🤔
far from slow
0-60 3.8 I mean fairly decent. There are other cars far cheaper that can do those times tho. Gotta love a beautiful lotus tho I just hate that people talk bad about it because it has a toyota/lexus motor in it. That v6 has so much potential to grow too. Get rid of the 3rd cat there goes u around 10-15 more hp, then toss out the restrictive air box that we get in america and use a proper one that frees it up a bit that's gonna open up about another 10hp and the cone factory with 410hp so do those and u are bumping 430ish hp then get it tuned easy potential to get 460-500hp from it. With just doing those simple things. But yep I definitely love this version of the evora the most.
nice how you can see the throttle in the rear view.
I love that they made it clearly visible
Just noticed that at 17:30!
Love that single wiper.
That was awesome, you could see the throttle action on the rear view mirror ahah
why havent a lot of people covered this car ? it sounds amazing and looks good to!
The Evora is great, but god I just want the V6 Exige to come to the states :(
Why has no one ever thought about converting the +2 joke seats into a single, perpendicular 3rd seat?
I'd say it's because of safety issues. And yeah, they're an absolute joke on some cars
@@royoldschool5352 If I had to venture out a wild guess on the safety front, I don't think the human body was made to take such lateral loads if it was in a collision at that angle.
They should have don’t mclaren f1 3 person seating with the driving centerline
The sound is so tame compared to the Elise form youre other video. Also for me the Elise is the Nr. I would take her and modify her.. just a childhood dream that looks way cooler then the Evora.
When activating sport mode the exhaust light should turn on as well. UI 101.
Awesome! thanks for showing us this car :)
The 400 is almost identical inside except for some little details. Same engine cover but black. Maybe you were thinking Evora S?
Tedward do you know anything about the long-term maintenance costs of one of these? I know with the Toyota power it should be fairly reliable but given its rarity versus the other exotics I’m curious how service is done and how much it costs.
Wife and I checked one out yesterday and we’ve more or less identified this as the sports car we would like to work towards owning but still curious about cost of ownership
One of the most beautiful cars out there in my opinion. Too bad I could never afford one!
Has anyone noticed how the gas cable moves, it is nice to see in the rearview mirror. :D
how do you gauge Oil Temp? Water Temp wont tell you when you're ready to pull
pillar blocking the mirror would have me trading in the car almost immediately
Tbh I’d feel super sketchy doing any sort of poor weather driving in cup 2’s. It must have sucked to try and avoid the backroads 😂
Thanks Ted!
You have a few points wrong, the dash board buttons are virtually the same as in the '17 and '18 Evora 400. Very few differences in the interior actually.
and you didn't read the pinned comment where I specifically corrected that.
I think you also have to depress the clutch to start the car.
The mirror knob and ac vents are the same as in my fiesta.

Question why are lotus cars so not like supercar price?
Hi we know your love for honda type r , which one would you choose - lotus or the honda type r ? Have type r right now but been intrigues by lotus for quite a while . Thanks
I need one of these in Basic Instinct white
What's your take on the release of the C8 in contrast to the Evora GT? C8 for $60k and Evora GT for $103k. How do you square the circle on the two??
That's a really good question. The C8's purpose seems to be aimed at taking down supercars. Being just as fast for less than half the cash. In doing so it only comes with a Dual Clutch gearbox and has incredible tech to manage traction and stability. Meanwhile the Lotus is just a car. That's it. It's job is to make you feel like you like you're in charge. No auto rev matching, very basic traction control features...Just an engine, 3 pedals and incredible steering. It's temping to go C8 for the money, but you also might miss out on the old fashion experience of driving. Just depends on what you want out of a car.
It's a different buyer. Just like Porsche, which produces nearly 10,000 911 Carrera cars for the U.S. market each year, Chevy mass produces the Corvette, generally 15,000 or 20,000 each year, or in some model years they've made over 25,000 cars.
Lotus imports 200 or so into the U.S. each year.
You are not an exclusive sports car fan in the Porsche or the Corvette, even though both are mid- or rear-engine cars. There is zero exclusivity with a Porsche or Corvette. You are a common sight on the road. There are thousands and thousands of them each year. After 10 years there are 100,000 911 cars and 200,000+ Corvettes. But only 2000 Lotus over that same 10-year time period. Rarely seen on the road.
Lotus has an Engineering consultancy whose clients are other car manufacturers and Lotus' sports cars seem like a showcase of what that Engineering consultancy is capable of. They do not stay in the car business to mass-produce 10,000 or 20,000 cars every year. Lotus was a Formula One World Champion constructor. They invented 'ground effects' aerodynamics that are now used in all open-wheel racing cars.
So the fans and buyers of Lotus are probably more motorsports-oriented than the generic sports car guy who doesn't mind buying a car that is also owned by 20,000 other people.
I've driven an Evora GT and it feels much closer to a race car, a track car, than a mass-produced sports car. I think that is the appeal. The engine sound inside is astonishing. It's like 'oh my god, this is crazy for a road car, what in the hell were they thinking when they made this' and I'm pretty sure their thinking was 'we're making it for people who want a car really close to the track.'
This is not commentary on the quality of the other sports cars. The buyer profile is just a bit different. Buying a hot sports car from an F1-heritage car company is pretty cool.
The buyers of the new mid-engine Corvette are waiting for the day when the pushrod engine in the 2020 model will be replaced by a 'modern' flat-plane crankshaft overhead valve engine.
Lotus was putting a dual-overhead-cam flat-plane-crankshaft V8 engine in their cars (the Esprit) starting in 1997. Twenty-three years ago.
It was surprising to hear of a pushrod engine being put in the new Corvette. I can understand why there was some disappointment with that choice. It is an old layout for a V8 engine, first used in the early 1900s. Sort of low-tech for a sports car.
The other thing I've heard is that many potential buyers are put off by the loss of a stickshift, a manual transmission. The new Corvette model is automatic transmission only.
.
16:21 wow...it really came alive for a sec
tks it sure was.
Wait a second...the engine and exhaust sound exactly like my Dad's 2015 Jaguar XF 3.0 Sport supercharged when revving...even the startup sounded the same when you revved it. its kinda of like an in between the sport and touring mode on the lotus and a LOT LESS intense and loud 😂
That car looks like fire
What a beauty!
How is noise insulation at the highway? Thanks!
Erm, the GT is for sale in the UK too :)
The ghost of Cayman past...
Cayman is so good, but they never gave it enough power...and then they did! but the 718 is Boring and lame. Seems lotus gave us the Cayman we wanted lol
@Porsche Boxster Content I don't think he was referring to the GT4
That light on red meaning something is off isn’t Lotus. My Terminator tells me the traction control is off when the light is on. Its very “silly” is what ya mean.
If it overheats would coolant get all over your trunk?
I'm late to this but... How on earth can a Lotus have the same wipers/turn signal stalks as my Ford Fiesta ST from 2007? It's a Lotus. Isn't Lotus supposed to be with Toyota?
Nobody:
Tedward: Drives a Lotus in the snow 😂
😂
On Cup 2's. I get worried about those in California weather, let alone New England winters.
The Evora is cool but I’d hate to have to replace the clutch
@tedward I really enjoyed your review thanks so much. Quick question: Cayman GT4 or the Evora GT?
Ahh that’s tricky. I think I’d go gt4 personally. The evora has better gearing and torque but I prefer the refinement and tactility of the gt4. Maybe I need to spend more time with the lotus. It’s been a while
Tedward probably the wisest decision! Appreciate your insights opinion-nicely done!!!
The gearing in the GT4 is way way too long.
You're over 80mph in second, that means very few gear changes which translates into less fun.
I'll take the Lotus.
14:23 That is mendon road. You must live near me!!
What a fantastic beauty
I have a Maserati Levante "S"....$130,000+.... Is a Lotus 430 a good car to buy and replace the Maserati with?
Evora 430 is a masterpiece
Would you buy it over a comparable 911? An Evora is about the only car I think I'd trade my 997 for...
I would do it just for the novelty. The driving experience in both is great, but people see lots of 911's these days, but a lotus? That's considerably more uncommon.
Although I absolutely love Evoras...the MPG hurt to look at. it's the same as a 2002 Acura RL which weights 700lbs more and is 2ft longer lol. There's gotta be some kind of engineering improvement they can make to bump up the MPG a little bit right? Sure the power difference and tuning is significantly different, but damn lol.
My Celica Gen 7 does about 3400rpm at 80mph and it gets on my nerves.
Dude that thing pulls, how was the tourqe below 3000 rpm ?
How is Lotus still alive in North America?
@John Mitchell I understand that, but how many are there that would be willing to spend the money to buy them new when the market is flooded with sports cars. Just don't understand how they are competitive in this market.
@@Perazzi11 because they're amazing to drive
@@Perazzi11 They have "motorsports snob appeal." There are no cars sold by Formula One Constructor-heritage manufacturers at the pricepoint of a Lotus. Ferraris are overpriced now - supposedly Ferrari makes **$94,000 PROFIT** on each car they sell, so they are very overpriced - see "Ferrari Made A $94,000 Profit On Each Car It Sold In 2019: Study" at www.motor1.com/news/409162/ferrari-made-90000-porift-2019/
Lotus has a long well-known Formula One heritage. Corvette does not. Porsche does not. Neither does Lamborghini. Lotus was an F1 World Championship constructor more than once and the drivers who drove them are still involved in motorsports in the U.S. today. Mario Andretti is still in the business, although not driving any more, and many in his family are also in the business and some are race drivers. Lotus came to the U.S. with rear-engine open wheel race cars in the mid-1960s and blew everybody away. Lotus racing history is pretty significant in the U.S.
I've driven an Evora GT. There is a vast difference between a motorsports car adapted to street use and a non-motorsports car outfitted as a 'sports' car.
The other car companies produce 10,000 cars each year (Porsche) or 20,000 or more cars each year (Corvette) and those cars are seen on the road quite frequently. There is nothing unusual about them - they're as familiar as a used pair of tennis shoes. If you own one you are driving a car driven by 10,000 or more other people. No exclusivity, no 'motorsports snob appeal'
But the driving experience is the most important difference. If you get a chance to drive an Evora GT, put it into Race mode - then you will understand.
To me, it reminds me of when full-bodied sport bikes came out. The GSX-R750 Suzuki was first full-body sport bike on the market here in the U.S.
The other non-sport bike models like the Kawasaki Kz1000 were still motorcycles, but the GSX-R750 out-handled them, out-powered them, mainly because it was an endurance racing bike adapted to street use. The GSX-R750 did not have all the extra stuff that the regular motorcycles had, like self-canceling turn signals, low-fuel warning beeps, comfortable passenger seat, comfortable riding position, etc. but the buyer didn't want that - the buyer wanted something as close to a racing machine as possible but still legal to use on public roads.
Peep that TSX wagon in the drive way tho
Just turned 90k miles
looks like a liquid intercooler ?
I have the Evora 400, manual transmission. For me The Evora GT is not worth the price increase for such little update.
Charlie Brown I am constantly searching for a nice manual 400 at a good price. I’m in a 991 now, so it’s a comfortable wait, but they are hard to find.
The gt410 sport looks amazing, do you get that version in the us?
If you're looking to buy one though, the used ones are 2014 or older. Every once in a while a 2017 or 2018 will show up but they are usually $80,000 thereabouts with mileage on them.
The reality is, it is a small production run each year from Lotus, so for each model year, only a couple hundred make it to the U.S. So you're hoping someone had to sell their car after 2 or 3 years ownership. And the odds are not good of that happening with only 200 cars imported each year.
If you find a used 2018 for $80,000 with 10k miles, I'd rather pay for a new one with no miles and full factory warranty.
If we were talking Corvette - Chevy makes 20,000 or 25,000 of those per year so, sure, you can finds LOTS of late-model used corvettes.

Isn't that key of the new edge Ford design? It doesn't matter to me, I'm just curious
2 years late, but yes. It is the same key from my MK1 Ford Focus ST170 (SVT USA)
