She is lovely. The problem is, the people she is putting under the spotlight like this, these people are NOT trying to get appointed to a government job. They are employed in the private sector and they are not the least bit interested in getting house reps to "vote for them." So she is shaming people who just sit there but who could (at any moment) just leave. They don't have to sit there.
I like what she does. But the government can't really do anything about how much he is paid or how much pills cost.

I’m not in a position to give money, it’s all I can do to keep going since being disabled is extremely expensive, as this video demonstrates (!). @@leobigelow7021 it is if they aren’t getting the bigger picture. Pay increases for executive leadership vs workers over the last 50 years is well documented. Loss of retirement and investments for workers. People can’t save for retirement outside of social security if they aren’t paid enough to make those savings. Unreasonable profits on pharmaceuticals and every day needs are absolutely within her scope. There are numerous items within her scope that absolutely makes it her job to call them out and demonstrate the shortfall of their leadership as it impacts everyone in this country.

It's tempting to ask why other elected officials don't call out bs like Katie does, but that would be an incorrect assessment. It's not a lack of a will, there are others who do it, but the way she winnows concepts down so that even the least-intelligent or least-interested voter can understand....that is a skillset. She makes it look easy but it's not; it takes years of training and practice. It's called teaching.

Im happy i live in sitzerland im so well insured. I pay 300 every month an dont have to worry about medical expenses like surgerys, dentist, doctors, therapie etc. and i only pay that much because i need a lot of medical treatment. Crazy over there in the us.

I think the key to Porter's strategy here is that she asks these questions in such a way where the CEO can't tell if she already knows the answer or not, which makes it very hard to lie, which often forces them to play dumb as if they don't know the answer.
From what I have seen she always knows the answer.
Its doubly effective because if they know the answer, then they know they are going to look pretty shitty..but once she reveals SHE knows the answers..they still look pretty shitty.
Oh she knows the answer, she would not ask a question without knowing the answer. She was a teacher, and I would have to guess, a very good one!

It's typically one a day as well and taken for years until disease progression. So think of the total cost over say 3 years of taking it.
Revlimid is post primary cancer treatment maintenance medication not a cure.
- SOME studies INDICATE that it MAY add anywhere from 1 year to 3 years to a patient's life after Myeloma treatments who tend to live between 7 to 15 years after treatment depending on the individual and the nature of the cancer.
- On the company's own website they admit that the studies were not rigorous enough nor designed such that they could conclusively state that Revlimid was ENTIRELY effective in extending the lives of cancer patients post treatment but that the indications are very strong that with Revlimid there was a statistical probability that the medication extended and improved their quality of life. (if you can tolerate the side effects)

$736 per pill....that is cheap compared to some other medications. I was admitted to the ER back in 1997 for a heart arrhythmia and was given a pill derived from Digitalis. They gave me two doses over one day and each pill was $1600. At the time I was a poor college student with no insurance...had to pay out of pocket.
Revlimid is now at $832 per pill. Crazy

A lot of people in her position are investors in these companies. That's why Drumpf is always talking up the stock market- for them. I don't think the average American, myself included, has that much to do with it, nor do they care on a daily basis.

I'm a boomer and I distinctly remember people , back when I was younger, discussing and lamenting that someone had died or gone bankrupt, etc. IN THE RICHEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD and how that was not right. Well, 50 years later and Big Pharma still rules. Something has to change. Obama care was a start and was watered down by republicans (no politicizing, but it's fact) . @Xi Jinping the difference is. you pay $1000 once for an iphone. where as this drug is $700 per pill, not once. Unfortunately there is no pill that will aid/cure cancer with 1 dose. And quadrupling the price does not sound like a great deal to me, when the drug did not improve in any way or other costs associated with the drug would have increased. In fact, the costs would have decreased per pill, seeing as they found more patients to sell this drug to.
Now I understand that they want to make money and they want to have a ROI before their patent expires in 2023, but it does appear unreasonable. Could this perhaps contribute to the fact that healthcare in the US is so expensive that people can not afford it?

If you take the profit out of health care you remove the incentive for smart people to become doctors and scientists. The US has the most effective healthcare system in the world at prolonging life, precisely because there is enormous profit in healthcare. Otherwise some (maybe a lot) of really smart people would all become petroleum engineers.
There are two main reasons why healthcare is so expensive in the US. First, the US has very high quality healthcare. Second, most Americans have some form of health insurance which leads to administrative bloat and increased costs because you have to pay for all the people and technology responsible for making sure that the insurance pays for covered services.
We could make healthcare much more affordable by changing either of these conditions.
Money is not the only motivator, there are countless studies saying the exact opposite. If you hate your job, will you be happy if you are payed more money? If that is the case how long do you think that lasts?
@@philip1541 money absolutely does buy happiness. The studies that you mention show there is no statistically significant differences in happiness only once a person has enough money to provide for their material and actualization needs and wants. Below this line people are absolutely unhappy.
Often in cases where money isn’t a prime consideration we know that the social prestige and power that comes from degrees like a PhD, JD, and MD are highly motivating.
Finally, often what makes people unhappy with jobs where they make a lot of money is the amount of time they spend at work or high stress levels of the job. They aren’t unhappy about making more money, they are unhappy about what they have to do to get that money.

I'm a conservative, and I don't believe in spending excessive amounts of money on frivolous or wasteful things. So corporate bailouts need to be cut and Americans need a better minimum, which would probably be a net savings when it's all said and done.
