My mom when she passed away was skin and bones and very pale. At the viewing she was very bloated and the makeup that was applied to her face wasn't blended very well, but I was to distraught to care. I looked at it in a positive way. Her skin was full of color and she didn't look like skin and bones. Her body have been ravaged by cancer. My mom had wanted some Fendi perfume. I wasn't able to find it for her, for Christmas. A few days after she passed away. I went to a local store in town and across from the store a yellow box stood out and I had to go look at it. I went toward the box and it was a box of Fendi perfume. The day of her viewing I drenched a cotton ball with Fendi perfume and placed it inside a plastic bag and carried it with me. I went up to her and I took the cotton ball and I placed some the perfume on her wrist. I said to my mom here's the perfume I promised you Mom. A few days after the viewing I swear that I felt a slight breeze go past me like someome was walking by me and then a scent of the Fendi perfume was in the air.
Kat Parks it happens it way a of letting you know they are there I’ve had deceased cousin who smokes literally make cigarette smoke appear out of nowhere
My grandma came to me one day while I was taking a nap. She passed away in 2013 but in the dream she was wearing the dress we buried her in and she was telling me how she didn’t want to leave us but had no choice. Reason why I felt so much guilt was because the night before she passed I was going to go visit her at hospice but I since I just got off work and was tired, I thought I’d go visit her the next day. She passed away the following morning and i never got to see her again. But in the dream I cried so hard and it felt so damn real. I miss her and I think of her ever single day.
It seems like the funeral home tried to do the best they could with what they had to make your mom look as she did in her healthier days in life. And Im glad you were able to find the perfume ;)

Yeah it was sent to me as well after watching historical things and I was searching about bones lol that's probably why your channel came to me and I'm glad for it. My cousin is a mortician btw. I love your calmness.

Exactly!! Not just anyone can have this type of job as a profession. Basically being faced with death all throughout life! It takes a special type of person to do this. Props to the grave woman and others in this field!!
I was terrified of death/dying until just recently. Losing my mom to Acute Liver Failure in 2018 changed my perspective on life. I now want to learn all I can about the body and spirit after death. Thank you for this video. I can’t put into words how it helped ease some of my fears.
Chan thank you so much for watching and for sharing. I am so so sorry for your loss. You have no idea how much your words have touched me and confirmed the direction I am moving with this channel. So true! Sorry for your loss! My Sisters funeral was yesterday and it was so sudden I still can’t process it, but it made me curious to search for the body process and what happens to prepare them for the funeral. That’s how I found this video 🕊💞

We LOVE a respectful queen. You are so peaceful and open about this topic and it’s very refreshing, these are the questions that need to be answered more!! While it can be a little gruesome, it’s also life!! Thanks for being real, open, and honest about it!!!
I fully dressed , did hair and a touch of makeup on three of my family members . Believe it or not , it helps with the grieving process ... it was the last good thing I could do for them , because sometimes we all have that little tiny voice saying “ I could have done more “ , and this shush’s that little voice .
You are so correct Tina. Contributing to the care of loved ones for me has created a sense of peace and confidence in moments of questioning and uncertainty. Thank you so much for your commitment to service and for allowing myself and audience to share in your experience.
I don't think I could have done that with my own family, it would have been to hard and emotional. I'm glad you were able to give them that last gift. I prefer to remember them at their best...some things you just cant unsee.
@@TheGraveWoman you can return the treasures to the surviving family members. Watch Dr. Pimple Pop and borrow some of her ideas to write a short synopsis of your show. 2021. I can see you in my living room via TLC.
@@nanambaye9054 THANK YOU! I LOVE YOUR IDEA! I actually have a few ideas of my own that I am really working out in my mind. Its a bit overwhelming. Even this RUclips thing is overwhelming! I want to respond and keep up with everyone and learn more and help but the bigger it gets the harder it get s to keep up. Grateful for the growth but just being honest!
U r so gentle and beautiful while talking about this subject. I thank u. For u helped me deal, with my daughter's,passing even though it was 4 years ago.
Sherry, I would firstly like to express my condolences to you and your family. I can not imagine your pain. Thank you so much for watching. Your words are so touching, motivating and inspiring. I am praying for your peace and strength. I wish there were some fancy magic words that I could say but I know there aren't so I will part by sending Peace, Love and Blessings
My son passed 21 yrs ago now and it still feels like yesterday , I wish you and your family love , remembering does help , I catch myself thinking and smiling at times and my heart finds some peace for a few minutes , enough to keep going on . 😇💕🇺🇸

@@TheGraveWoman I agree, you seem so kind and caring.. Seems like most people who go into this line of work are compassionate. And I had no idea that the deceased persons animals would have to be put down if they had started eating their owner. Never crossed my mind. Thank you for the great video.
If I die and my bag of weed is found on me , well put it back in my pocket , and make sure i have a lighter and rolling papers zig , zags will do nicely thank you 😍
You are truly a beautiful spirit. My son passed 3 yrs ago, he had just turned 28. I had a one day funeral but had him cremated to be close to me. I think the funeral home people were very nice and took good care of my son and he looked so handsome. He passed from an OD that he fought years to quit. God be with him and you also.
Sandra Sawicki thank you so much Sandra. I am so sorry for your loss. How are you today? Thank you for your words and your willingness to share such a personal experience.
The Grave Woman Hello, I’m doing better as time passes but my life has changed drastically forever. Your kindness understands that each person that has passed is someone’s loved one, father, mother, sister and unfortunately the worst, child. Thank God for someone like you that can help us get through the worst days of our lives. God bless you always 🙏🏻❤️
I'm so sorry you lost your son to this disease...I thank God for another day Clean , I just passed 3 years after being an addict for 20+ years. Just know when he passed he didn't feel any pain and he will never have to feel that pain again 😢💔🙏
You have a job that must be both interesting and depressing at times. But, what you probably don’t get is enough appreciation for the work you do. Actually I must admit that I never stopped to think about this side of the funeral industry. So, let me just say thank you for all that you do to bring comfort and peace to the loved ones of the deceased and helping them to have as much of a positive last memory as possible.🙂
Theresa, thank you so much. I appreciate your kind words and thoughtfulness. It can be a thankless job at times but overall most people are very very very very grateful. I love the work I do so it makes the depressing and dark times easier to cope with and through. Thanks so much for your kindness!
I like to see these videos because I have always been interested in how a person died and the process of embalming. You show us in a very dignified manner how it is done. You never get too graphic. I found your sight by scrolling through RUclips. TYS.🙏

When I was 17 I volunteered at the county morgue and assisted with autopsies and we had to collect their "property" and we have had to remove jewelry, clothing etc. A job I will never forget that's for sure. ❤
I wasnt expecting to see you channel on my recommendations but this is the second video I watched of yours and you got my attention! I love your videos. So respectable, professional and you sound passionate about your field of profession! Thank you
Love your videos! So happy to see more open death talk from professionals! My best friend's father died suddenly a few years back and she had him cremated. I told her it was OK to open the urn, it wasn't weird or inappropriate, and what she should probably expect to find. She called me because she was concerned and confused that other than ashes, small bone fragments, and ID chip there was also 49 cents of loose change. I told her it was a good thing because it meant that the crematory was honest and respectful. I also mentioned that it was the most appropriate thing I could think of because her father never had a round number of cash nor did he ever give her a 5, 10, or 20 for something for herself. If he did, he made us go down to the store and buy a gallon of milk then he would give her the odd numbered change to go see a movie. She was always embarrassed about that when we were younger. Now, she thinks of it as something very special that only she and her father shared and always will. I'm grateful to the crematory staff for keeping that change with the ashes rather than giving it to her seperately. I think it helped her process some of her grief.
Katie Orwig thank you so much for watching Katie. That experience sound so precious and meaningful. It furthers my belief that our dearly departed loved one are always with us and that they yearn to connect with us in meaningful and special ways. Thank you so much for sharing this story and thank you so much for your support!!! Isn’t it funny how the universe aligned for that to happen for your friend?
@@TheGraveWoman Thank you right back. Her father's death was a very brutal process on her as she was left as executor. She never got a moment to grieve for herself and I didn't make it back home to help her in time to stop the funeral home from extorting her, but I did have a talk with them when I arrived to let them know that I can't afford the schooling so I have been working on self-teaching in the mean time and I follow morticians on RUclips; I'm not going to allow them to continue doing that to her because she is young and inexperienced. Honestly, I hesitated to mention that memory to her but my Death Doula training told me to tell her and take it from there. After a moment of thinking, she laughed. For the first time in 2 weeks, she smiled and laughed. She said that factor never would have occurred to her. So, every other member of the family took a bit of ashes but she took enough of the change so that she and her dad always have an odd amount of change on them, lol.
Katie Orwig I would love to hear about your experience as a death doula and what exactly it is that you do. I am thinking of adding that to my line of services.
I was asked by a cousin of mine whom is a hairdresser to help do my deceased grandmother's hair, makeup & nails at the funeral home. My grandmother she was a beautiful lady and loved getting her hair and nails done. I declined because I didn't think that I could mentally or emtionally handle seeing my grandmother in that state. I just wanted to remember her in life the way she was.❤
I am so sorry for the loss of your grandmother. You did the right thing by choosing the memory picture that worked best for you. Thank you so much for watching and sharing such a personal experience. God bless you
My sweet Blessed One, take solidity in the fact that your grandmother knows that part was too much for you, and she would have much rather you didn't if you were nervous about it. No one can tell you how to grieve, or how to remember your love one, its totally ok that you prefer to remember her the way she was! May God bless you and hold you tight through you darkest hours.
I love that you have compassion and some of these situations effect you and you haven’t become desensitized to them. I don’t mean I am happy if it upsets you. I just think it’s sweet that the deceased is with a very caring individual in their last moments before burial. God bless.

This is very informative..... Because every since I was four years old I had a phobia of dead people. I remember just as if it happened yesterday. I was with my mom and we went to the funeral home to view my great grandmother and they had her hair combed up away from her face and it looked real scary to me. At that point in time that's when I began to be terrified of dead people. When my mother died I touched her hand and she felt hard and cold but me touching my mom actually took some of that phobia away from me.....Thank you so much for your love and kindness on this subject!

My grandma passed in February and we had to let the funeral home take her rings off cause we couldn’t get them off. My mind has run wild ever since wondering what their method would be, my mind kept going to cutting the finger off since she was just being cremated and wasn’t being viewed and it kinda made me start to think like what happens to these bodies that aren’t really the people we love because it’s just a physical body, but it’s still something we cuddled and saw everyday, when they are handed over to someone else. I’m glad people get to have you be someone they trust, you seem so kind and respectful but diligent and I appreciate that a lot.
Sydney I am so sorry for your loss. I can guarantee that the funeral home did not cut Grandma's finger off. I will make a video discussing how we handle these very situations. I've never seen so much intelligence in a woman. Your so polite and informative I might only be 11 but I am a very curious person which is why I subscribed. I am so happy I found this channel.
Wow, thank you! You are so sweet and your words means so much. 11 years old huh? What are your thoughts about death and dying? Is this a conversation that you have had with your family?
So I had to leave a comment bc you asked. I was going to comment then said no. Then you asked so here we are. You have respected this subject so well I am just blown away. We all deal with death. See it. Hear it. Feel it. We're trying to heal in my family from the loss of a 18 month old baby, not even two years ago. My niece. I dont think we will ever be whole again. Pneumonia. Any how. I am scared daily of life anymore. I think I handled last year better than I have last 6 months. Very close tight nit family. We've lost quite a few members this past decade. Maybe your channel will help. Here's hoping. Thank you for talking with care in your voice and obviously love in your heart. God Bless.

Just found your channel. Excellent video! Thank you for discouraging drinking and driving. My dad's older son died 5 months before I was born, at 17 years old in a drunk driving accident. He was so excited to be an older brother to me. Unfortunately, he decided to drive drunk and his friends didn't stop him. I read the police report of his accident and it broke my heart. Please pursue the educational path for teaching in the Mortuary Science discipline. You are gracefully erudite with an abundance of compassion. It is obvious that you did your homework to prepare for your present level as a professional mortician. Continue to obtain practical experience; as well as, considering to go back to school. It will not be easy, but you can do all things through Christ who will strengthen you (Phil 4:13). P. S., I know nothing about Mortuary Science. I’m a preacher, who trains other preachers, to preach the Gospel. I also know those who knows Him...
Thank you so much for your encouraging words and for watching. I will take your suggestion into consideration. I appreciate you taking the time to share what was laid on your heart to share ;)
I helped "lay out", as it was called, my two grandmothers with my mother. It was the old-fashioned way with a bandage under the jaw to the top of the head, coins over the eyes and hands in repose over the chest until rigor mortis was come and gone. Then we dressed them in the clothes they had chosen, cleaned their faces and hands, applied pale nail varnish and a little blusher and lipstick and finally brushed and set their hair. During this process there are quite a lot of bodily noises and excretion of wind and odour. I was 24 when my first grandmother died and this process was quite disturbing to me. By the time my second grandmother died I had had my children and had been to many family funerals and so I wasn't quite so traumatised. Luckily I think it's unusual now for family to lay out the body. Not nice.
From one funeral professional to another, I can appreciate what you have done here. People often fear the unknown and unfathomable deeds we perform on a daily basis. I'm not a mortician but I am an RN. Autopsies are not performed on everyone. For example, if a person has cancer, they don't need an autopsy. Any other illness they were aware of doesn't require autopsy. In the city I live in, the opiate epidemic is so severe that if a person ODs and it's obvious, they do a tox screen and a visual assessment of the body and that's it. Now this doesn't mean autopsy can't be performed. Autopsies can be performed on anyone but are not required for everyone.

This just broke my heart
Omg this has me in tears
I’m so sorry about your mom 🥺

My sweet Blessed One, take solidity in the fact that your grandmother knows that part was too much for you, and she would have much rather you didn't if you were nervous about it.

@@TheGraveWoman I am deeply deeply interested in life and I am very afraid of death. But that fear makes me really curious about what you do for a living. I would love to be a mortuary technician (if something like that exists.....) because the "job" is SO MUCH MORE than a job. It is about life.
@@jennifersinclair7249 You are right. Our work is done for the living and not for the dead. Best of luck to you in your future career en-devours.

Hi I'm a lady Attendant in the Bahamas I love your caring voice I also love working with the grieving families at the funeral services
Hi Linda. Thanks so much for watching. Thanks for the work that you do. I have some friends in funeral service down there. What firm are you with?
I don’t know how mid interaction you have with the public but you are vary valuable in my opinion. I have worked in EMS since 2001 and my Mom is a RN just out of HS so I grew up looking at all those Medical books and they had everything in there... other then the black bars across the eyes, it’s what got me curious so yeah I have worked with many calls that have had deceased and family’s and loved ones would be very fortunate to have you there for support and comfort and also a human that has compassion!! Thank You foe all you do!
Thanks so much for your kind words Carolina
This subject matter has always freaked me out until my teenage daughter actually found Caitlin on ask a mortician and I have to say after seeing her videos and yours so tastefully and respectfully done it's really kind of taking the creep factor out of it for me and it's been replaced with some understanding and a lot more compassion and thank you I unfortunately had to attend a friend's funeral after finding ask morticians RUclips site and I have to say watching her videos in videos like yours made that funeral a 180゚ different for me it really helped take some of the sadness out of it and discomfort I was able to focus more in the celebration of a life and I'd like to say thank you
emmanoah9 you are so sweet! I thank you for watching and for sharing your experiences. Comments like this are the entire reason that I make videos. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I would also like to say I am sorry for your loss. I am glad that our videos. Bright you some comfort and understanding. May I ask if your daughter is interested in becoming a funeral director?
@@TheGraveWoman Sorry for the late reply at to go back through my notifications and fineness. Her father and I are nurses and she wants to be a paramedic at one time she thought about medical examiner to help solve crimes especially against children as she is a rape survivor that went through cutting and suicidal behavior and thoughts and thank God as we have come out the other side she wants to help others. But oddly enough watching these videos and ones like have helped garner some appreciation for life and how those who've lost loved ones are left feeling
@@emmanoah9 WOW! I apologize as well for the delayed response. It is a bit overwhelming keeping up with all of these comments. It sounds like you all have raised a beautiful soul. May God bless you all on her journey. Thank you for the work you do taking care of others. I can not imagine being in your shoes.

P. S.,
I know nothing about Mortuary Science. I’m a preacher, who trains other preachers, to preach the Gospel. I also know those who knows Him...
Thank you so much for your encouraging words and for watching. I will take your suggestion into consideration. I appreciate you taking the time to share what was laid on your heart to share ;)
WOW🎈
Thank you Joel for sharing I learned a lot today.
Glad you enjoyed it
Hello, Joe'l! A wealth of information from you, as always ❤ Thank You
Good Morning! Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words
Very well done. So respectful. You are a very kind and caring person.
Thank you Meg
Not nice.
Hello there. I can imagine what an experience this must have been for you. Thank you so much for watching and for sharing.

I lost my husband after getting ran over by a semi. He was pinned between the tires. Tire mark on his stomach, broke his back and leg he lived 3 weeks. Died on Thanksgiving day 2019. I felt so guilty I prayed the night before God to take him! I had just finished medical assistant schooling.

You are so kind Helen. It truly makes me appreciate LIFE
Hello beautiful! Your video randomly popped up on my news feed but I am thankful. I have always been low key infatuated with the deceased. When I was a child, my relatives stated that I was weird as hell for desiring to be a Funeral Director/Mortician.
Hi there. Thank you so much for watching. I was the same exact way as a child. I am so grateful that my Uncle was there to guide me and answer all of my "weirdo/crazy" questions. I am so happy that you're here
My family said that about me b/c I've been like that myself and I wanted to go to school to be a mortician.
You are the sweetest little thing. God sure placed you in the perfect career. I hope you realize what a gift of comfort you are to families and friends of the deceased. God bless you little lamb!

Thank you so much for watching
You're very well spoken. Thank you!
Thank you for watching and for your compliment
Very respectful young lady you are could you please explain why these items are not removed in autopsy
You are 100% correct Carrie.
I loved your video. You do it very tastefully and informative. Keep up the good work. Thank you
