The reason why some nations with little land get to appear in top 10 is because of the economy of their country, if you look at score, you will see that Hawaii's population score is only 7, while their economic score is 507, meaning that the whole game they kept investing their economy into upgrading the economy of their provinces, wich meant that they made more money and kept spending it on economy
i just found a compilation for all of aoh2 and i watched all of them. this was one of the best. the first one was a bit cringe bc the "Muffin Song" was playing. lol. congrats on 10 years!

The reason that you see countries are splitted is the peace bug of the game which isnt fixed until now sometimes when a country wanna peace with another country it bugs and in the peace treaty menu you cant get the whole country while you have control on all parts
