Excellent guide! I took a 15-year-old laptop out of storage. Lithium-ion battery. Figured it was dead when I plugged in the AC and got an "undetected %" charge reading, but to my surprise it slowly crawled back up to 100% over several hours. I unplugged it, used it, battery seemed to drain at a normal rate. A few days later it was dead. Back to "undetected %" with the AC connected and won't even begin to charge again. My guess is that the ancient battery couldn't take the shock of being used again after so many years of inactivity. I'd be keen to know your thoughts if you have any. Thanks!

Will try this. Nothing on youtube has worked so far an my battery is definitely not worn out. This Asus only came out in June/July 2020 an I bought it new in Jan 2021
Edit: I found the settings were not in the BIOS an I can't remove battery. Luckily my laptop is an expensive one.
It turned out that battery settings were in a software. The Asus control center in the tunings.
Instant fix with a toggle setting 🙂

Work?
An easy way to see if there is a hardware or software issue is to see if the battery will charge in the BIOS (BIOS battery charging status). If the battery is discharged but the power brick will allow the computer to turn on usually means the power brick is working properly. Also worth noting is a bad motherboard may exist and will discharge any new battery as well. I got a new battery and it simply discharged. I can run my laptop without the battery with the AC power brick only. BIOS says battery not charging. Looks like motherboard in my case.
Good job troubleshooting! Yes, it sounds like a MB issue :)

My asus fx505g is dead and wont turn on, I tried every step but uninstalling the drivers because I cant due to no power. It's not charging, and no charging lights but the charger works and everything matches. Happened before but at the time it actually said "plugged in and not charging" about 5 months ago, I took off the back and unplugged the battery and plugged it back in then it worked. This time no message about the battery and no battery light comes on. And it finally died. Was at 5 percent and no it wont turn on. What can I do? Could it be the battery?

I have a Asus Laptop ROG G75W, I replaced the battery a year ago and today it died. I did see a low battery warning and about 5 minutes later the screen went black. It showed my charger was plugged in but didn't say anything about whether it was charging or not. I did the remove the battery and charging cord and held the power button down for 1 minute. Put the battery back in and plugged in the power cord and it did start back up but says nothing about charging or not charging although the amount of battery does display the remaining time left and it keeps dropping. Does this mean I have a bad charging cable? Thank you
Have you watched this video yet? This video will tell you how to troubleshoot a battery that will not charge. If all the steps seen here do not help, then your battery is the issue and should be replaced.
@@PC_Monkey Yes I did and I've read other trouble shooting guides. With the battery out and the power cord (charger) plugged in my laptop should come on and it doesn't. I'm assuming it's the power cord. Thank you
@@PC_Monkey The part I don't understand and you didn't mention is I'm not getting any error message. When I click on my battery icon in the lower right corner of the screen it used to say 99% not charging or 80% charging. Now it only shows the % and the remaining time left before the battery is dead. Since I do have battery life left, 44% but it isn't charging when plugged in wouldn't that be the charger? Hope this makes sense, thank you.

Hi, thanks for great explanation. I know I'm kinda late but hope that this reaches you. I tried THREE different batteries for my Asus UX31A laptop, and NONE of them worked. The most common problem: 0% won't charge. I tried holding the button for a minute, I tried reinstalling drivers, I checked everything! Original battery works just fine, but new batteries, although labeled as ASUS don't work whatsoever. Could the problem be in dead batteries? (C22-UX31 are kinda old now)
Its possible the batteries are all bad but unlikely. If these steps dont help and multiple batteries wont charge, your most likely looking at a bad motherboard :(
@@PC_Monkey woah, thank you so much for your reply! IDK if it's bad, because the original battery still works... I guess I can try flashing bios, can this be even helpful?
@@arseniix If the orig battery works then yes, you may be looking at an issue with the other batteries. Are they generic or brand name? Yes, flashing or resetting BIOS could help recalibrate for the new batteries :)

@@ValleySupport nope, I've tried 3 (!!!) different batteries but none worked, so I just gave up. Apparently they all are so old by now to the point of being completely dead. Probably some kind of a special high-power charger can be used to revive such a battery, but well, this is too much
Just a thought: Asus... wtf??? This is an ASUS issue not mine.
When is the time when we can dis Asus and get refunds??
Going in your computer voids th warranty.
I've got an old ASUS laptop model k53E that charges intermittently. If I hold my breath and hold the charge cord in the adaptor just right the computer will indicate that it's charging and will show that battery is increasing in charge. I can use the computer until I hear/see a low battery indication. At times I won't get that signal and it will simply shut down. I then mess around with the cord at the power jack and it will power up if held ust right. I assume it's possibly a loose or faulty jack as there is a considerable amount of "play" in the connection. Is there a video of opening up this model? Do you know if there are batteries still available? it is an external battery. Thank you
If you have to hold the charger cord / plug in just the right way for the computer to charge, it sounds like the power jack is damaged. I would have that replaced / fixed or have the motherboard replaced, assuming the power jack is part of the motherboard. Does this help enter the computer? ruclips.net/video/inw9I9k2KJY/видео.html

Instead of using the creation tool on a USB, can you simply go here and select the Update Now option? www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
@@PC_Monkey Going to try right now! Of course it will take a little while but I will let you know once done.
Ok I picked up your message on my main pc running win 10. I opened the link you gave me and saw the "update now" link. So I fired up the laptop (win 8.1) and opened your reply to open the link. I clicked on the link you gave me in your reply and went to the page but there was no "update now" only "download tool now" .I screen printed the page to prove what I was seeing as it didn't make sense, but there is no way to attach it so you will have to take my word for it. Weird eh. Like there is a different page for win 8??? M
Ok tried one more thing. On my main pc (Win 10) I went to the link you gave me and copied the link address "update now" and pasted it in to an email to myself. I have an Asus TUF Laptop, yesterday I’ve found out the same problem. (0%, plugin)
So I go to the Store where I buy it but they told me that they will just ship my laptop to the service center if it’s okay with me because it’s still covered with the warranty. (which I don’t want to because I am using this for my work, no available backup) So I decided to try fixing it by myself (even it will void the warranty. It’s okay with me as it will be expired after a couple of months)
I tried this step Sir over and over but was not effective at first. I was hopeless since earlier today. I’ve watched many tutorial, almost same as yours until this afternoon,
When I also saw 0% battery yesterday, I saw that there’s an update for BIOS from Armoury Crate. So earlier I also try to bypass the 20% battery requirements of BIOS update. After searching for different tutorials and checking forums I try on removing the internal battery then use only power adapter/charger and it worked! Bios is now updated through the Asus Armoury Crate App. But still battery is 0% after inserting the internal battery and performing the EC reset. So earlier I told myself to buy a new battery.
But I’m still thinking why it says 0% but can be unplugged for a couple of minutes. When I plugged in the charger the indicator is white which I think that it must be orange/red bcoz practically battery is low. Actually must be dead becoz it’s 0% lol. When I unplugged the charger there is no light indicator so I am still wondering why.
So for one more time I unplugged the charger for a couple of munites waiting for the laptop to shutdown with the 0% battery (it lasts for more than 5minutes I think which is not ideal in a 0% battery), I tried it because I want the battery indicator to become red which is ideal for a low battery. Then, before it shutdown while watching another tutorial (referring to ruclips.net/video/5Ab9xiLVkAY/видео.html) , I tried also to uninstall only “Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery (charger still nplugged) while battery is in 0% - After uninstall there is a message Battery is very low, then next is windows is shutting down. It restart automatically I think because of uninstall process. Then when I was on the login page, the battery indcator becomes red!!! (while the screen turnoff, i think because tge battery is nearly on real 0%) but still the rgb light keyboard is on, so I just wait for a couple of secs to see what will happen. (on that time I’m kind of happy because the battery indicator becomes red haha which I want to see)
Then I decided to plug the charger immediately, still nothing happen, RGB keyboard is on, screen is black out and the battery light indicator is red. So I pressed power button once and the screen turnned on!! When I login and checked, the battery it is not 0%, its 1% and it’s charging!!!! As of writing this it is now 50% haha thanks Sir!!! Thanks God I didn’t quit and the trial and error works for me!
Ps. I think I tried more than 5 times opening my laptop because the battery is inside. Tried it since yesterday, but I know that your tutorial process still helped me a lot Sir! So a BIG BIG THANKS Sir!
Sorry for my english and my story haha just sharing to give other idea that can be useful as well. But don’t forget it is very risky if you don’t have background on something like this. I have a slight background so I tried and take the risks 😊. Thanks again Sir
Does anyone know how to fix this: my laptop was charging just fine yesterday but today it wont charge properly like it charges then it doesnt, then it charges again then it doesnt again but like a faster rate imagine christmas lights kind of vibe where it says im plugged in then im on battery repeat super fast

I've got ASUS GL752VW that powers on when plugged in but battery will not charged. Did not see an easily removable battery so I am assuming that it is internal. How do I go about taking the laptop apart to ensure that it's working or needs to be replaced? Thanks in advance!

Hi, hope you reply.
My laptop's original battery is dead and wont hold anymore power but it still indicates its charging when plugged. It still turns on BUT when I tried to remove it from the charger it turns completely off.
I went to my local service l shop and they tried to replace the battery with a compatible Asus fx504 (tuf gaming) battery but it wont charge at all no charging icon on the task bar on the battery icon (lightning icon). ALTHOUGH it is read by the laptop but wont charge unlike the original one that has a power holding issue. What to do?

Hey, i had a different problem I want to ask about.
My laptop is about 1 year old now and it will be plugged in and charging and then all of a sudden stop charging all together. The computer wont even recognize it. Do I need to get a new chord?

@@PC_Monkey it varies but recently itll charge 30 percent of whatever i had it at and stop charging
My power socket on my asus ux32a was replaced by a technician last week as the pin inside had broken. Ever since then the laptop runs only on mains. The battery status is 0% available (plugged in). I've tried the steps in your video and still the same. The battery is quite new as it was replaced last year. Any ideas?
I would go back to the tech who 'repaired' it and tell him that. The power jack could not dysfunctional. You can test it as seen here; ruclips.net/video/HpabvrNaodU/видео.html
@@PC_Monkey Thanks for your reply. The power jack itself is now working as the laptop is being powered by and is running ok on mains power. The issue is that the battery is not being charged. What connects the power jack to the battery on an asus ux32a, please?
My laptop has an internal battery, and I am not sure how to remove the battery itself.

@@PC_Monkey not exactly, but from the video I got that in order to take out the battery you have to detach the white rectangle with the red white and black wires? My ASUS app on E210MA says 0 problem with battery, but the orange light keeps blinking and refuses to charge. I checked the light on the battery with a meter and I saw power. Looks like a power drain. Any hopes it’ll charge fully again?
If none of these fixes work, then you most likely need a new battery. If you would like help finding one, let me know :)
My asus vivobook was working completely fine until just the other day, when I noticed it wasn't charging properly. It didn't give me any signs or warning saying something was wrong with the battery/charger, nor did it say 'plugged in but not charging' or anything like this. Both the laptop and charger are in very good condition, and should not have anything wrong with them. Sometimes the laptop charges when I plug it in, but only for all of 5mins sometimes less, then it decides to stop again. I thought it was the charger at first because when it was plugged in at a certain angle it would maybe charge, but then I brought a new one and it still didn't work. Curious to hear your thoughts on what I should do, as it's really stressing me out as I need it for work. As of right no it's currently unusable (battery is completely flat as it won't charge) so I have no way of getting on it.
Additionally, after removing the screws on the back of my laptop, I'm unable to remove the plastic covering - at least without damaging the laptop itself
So does the computer turn on at all now?
Also, if the charger needed to be in at a certain angle, that would make me think there was something wrong with the power jack
@@PC_Monkey after awhile I got the back off, cleaned the whole thing out, & followed your steps, and tried charging it, it didn't work, so I repeated the steps a second time; this worked and the laptop charged fine, up to 50% when it reverted to the charger needing to be in a certain angle again. This is confusing to me as I'm not sure whether this indicates a problem with the laptop, charger, or both.
@@ethhhann165 Again, if it needs to be at a certain angle, that tells me that there is an issue with the power jack if not the motherboard.

@@PC_Monkey It was plugged in and running fine. I went to use it and battery was low enough to give shut down warning.
It still starts fine but isn't getting power from the charging cord and the battery isn't charging. The power cord is putting out the voltage. I don't know how many amps or how to test for amps.
The next part in the system is the charging port since the cord seems good. The machine should run with only the power cord andno battery. It doesn't.
I have a replacement power port ordered. Will know once it's replaced whether that is the problem. I generally don't like to throw parts at a problem without better diagnosis.
The computer starts normally and runs on the battery which is low. The power cord itself is working but current isn't getting to the correct place in the computer- ie battery not charging AND computer won't run on the cord alone.
Do you have any ideas besides the port?
@@aa-dz6cr If the battery is not charging, your on the correct video. If these steps dont help, you may need to replace the battery. However, you said the computer wont work with just the power cord. That seems to show the charger is the issue. Let me know what happens with the new one :)
@@PC_Monkey I don't understand how it can be the power cord when the voltage is correct when measured at the end of the cord with the charger plugged into the wall but not the computer. Measuring charger voltage is a legitimate test for the charger.
I can't condemn the battery when the computer won't run on the charger only. It used to. The problem is between the end of the power cord and the battery.
I don't find a schematic but visually, the charging port is next in line.
One question: do batteries fail suddenly on computers for example over night while plugged in?

My Asus laptop has a internal battery and I'm in no state for a new battery and I can't find my version which is the vivobook e410ka. And I don't want to risk taking out the battery. Can the static discharge work with the battery still in?
