I’ve had my Overlanders for 5 months, love them! I try to tell everyone about them, and as soon as they hear the price they shut down. You can’t get across to everyone, their loss.
A word of caution. You will want to be careful applying your conditioner to the leather around the eyelets and the heel stack and sole. The leather around the eyelets can become too soft and tear the eyelets out. The heel stack and sole have glues that may react poorly to the oils in the conditioner, resulting in them unbonding.
Noted, This is mostly wax-based so I don't think it will penetrate as deep and cause the issues you're mentioning. At least not so far after a few solid years of using it.
This review reminds me of how I feel about my Mizuno baseball gloves. The quality of the leather and craftsmanship is just next level. Even a brand new not yet broken in glove just feels right on the hand. Once it’s broken in, it becomes part of my body and I almost forget it’s there. Like a comfy “slipper”on my hand. Just ordered my first pair of Nicks, DomePro - Wickett & Craig English Bridle Veg Tan 8”. It’s only been 3 days and I’m already dying of anticipation!
@@NDB469 They are great! Leather quality and craftsmanship are top notch. Next to no break in time. Only thing I would change is getting the 6” rather than 8”.
@@noelle1314very cool! Yea I’ve had a few pairs of Nick’s, exceptional boots. My latest boot is the overlander 8” in black chromexcel leather. Very cool boots.
I've been planning on getting these, but as I got closer to the purchase I also started looking at others in the same price point and 'quality' ratings. Your video ended it all :-). Thank you for the final push with your vote of confidence.
When I ordered my BPs I used the sizing chart with the largest wool sock I have, the Darn Tough full cushion tactical. By doing that my boots aren't too tight in winter and slightly roomy in the summer depending on what socks I wear. I also ordered the lowest heel stack since I'm mostly walking i them and not on any pegs. Obenauf's oil has kept them soft and water resistant. About every 4 months I wash them with saddle soap. The only complaint I have is that the stitching through the sole can wick up water when it's raining.
As a fellow Canadian, high end boot connoisseur, and construction worker, all job sites in Canada require CSA approved safety boots which means no nicks, no whites, no JK's ect. the only options I know of for this quality and CSA approved would be Viberg boots or wohlford boots (formerly Dayton boots). I wish I could wear my JK's on the jobsite.
Nicks was looking into CSA last I spoke to them about it but I hear yeah. I do spend a bit of time on jobsites that require it and still wear them. Only once was I called out. A foreman asked me on my first day on the site if they were CSA and I said yes. That was the end of that:) Got my blood pumping a bit though. lol.
Good advice. I have a new pair. Right foot was perfect. Left was a little uncomfortable. Little narrow and uncomfortable where the tung at high point of my foot meet. Fix was to keep wearing and I messed around with tightening the laces.
I love my Nick's boots. My Urban Drifters were absolute murder to break in, but once they broke in they were incredible. Honestly though, my Nick's Tactical boots are more comfortable. They were comfortable day one, and they've just gotten more comfortable as I've worn them over the past seven months or so. Either way, you absolutely can't go wrong with Nick's
I bought a pair of Roberts with the 55 last. After a couple of days they were the best fitting boots I ever owned. Still are. I bought a pair of Overlanders in the same size. I asked customer service if they would break in like the Roberts. They said yes you’re good to go. I wore them to work every day for 3 months. I suffered trying to break them in. Had them stretched professionally twice but we’re still painful. Talked with customer service and sent them pictures. They didn’t want to help me. Their response was “better luck next time “. They lost a customer. If they took care of me I would still be a customer. I have turned my boot buying to Franks. More than happy with their service and their boots.
My Overlanders arrived 9 months ago. Took them straight to the Ozarks for a week of bow-hunting. I was walking around without discomfort after about an hour. Throughout the week they got better and better (accidentally left them in the rain one night, but they seemed fine the next day - just wet). I was on Nick’s website thinking of ordering a second pair, but saw they had a pair of Builder Pros in my size ready to ship (wait six months for another pair of Overlanders or take my chances with the Builder Pros?). Bought the BPs - they arrived in a week. Different animal regarding break-in - believe the hype. I’ve had them for about a month and am still not quite there, but much like the OLs, they’re only getting better. I’ll never go back to synthetic fiber when it comes to boots.
Nick’s overlanders’s are my favorite, I’ve had some builder pros and a pair of moc toes with the wedge, I typically got the brown 1964 leather, which breaks in a bit easier. This time I bought the blackout overlander and after about 5 days of constant wear, they’re great! I haven’t experienced the later issue with my other boots so I’ll see how that turns out with pronation and what not. Great video and very informative.
some guy's just dont understand what they are missing..i was that guy buying 2 pairs of Danner boots a year then i found Nicks Boots i now Have 3 pairs of Builder Pro 2 rough out 1 Brown and a pair of urban logger black rough out and i just bought these overlander in orange just wanted to watch a video on them i bought them a month ago so i didn't receve them yet.. Nicks are the only Boots i will ever buy again once you Break them in they are FKN AMAZING!!!
Thank you so much for your perspective, i think i am at the same point of break in with my Builder Pro's. Overall very comfortable, but i fell like my feet want to hug to the side of the boot where my big toe is. Great that it worked out for you and i hope mine will get better in a couple weeks of wearing them. As for break in, the best thing about it, it seems not to stop ever. My 3 year old Redwing IR seem to get more comfortable every time i step in. May it's just perception but i would bet they are more comfortable than a year ago. And don't get me wrong, these have been comfortable from about week 2 on and just keep getting better and better.
I am considering these boots. I wear a 13EE sneaker as well as your mass produced work boot. My Red Wing Iron Ranger is a 12 D and fits great on my left foot, but is still pretty snug on the right. According to the Nicks chart it says I should be an 11.5 EE. I’m worried that will be too small. Like you I am in Canada so would like to hit it right the first time. Thanks for the input.
I swear when you were talking about guys blowing through two pairs or more of cheap work boots in a year, the first thing I thought of were cracks across the sole at the ball of the foot. Then you showed your pile of cracked boots. Yep...
Love my Nick’s boots! Just an observation … you are not supposed to treat the shank or lacing strip as the eyelets will loosen and adhesive will delaminate at sole.
I have owned more than a few pairs of Nicks Boots. I found their chromexcel boots in different models to be very comfortable. Only negatives for me and not a reflection of the boots was a couple of ready to ship urban loggers in their heavier work leather. Could just not wear them due to the weight in combination with the thicker leather. Just too much boot for my casual wear lifestyle. I do have a pair of urban loggers in chromexcel that broke in fine. Other than those 2 pairs, the rest have been fairly easy to break in and are comfortable. I actually like the Whites boots better, but that is just a personal preference.
I’m currently awaiting the arrival of my first pair of nicks boots. I’ve been wearing my thorogoods for 2+ years daily. Oily the boots makes them go a long way. I might even get new soles on the thorogoods

Did the timberlands have a zip? Surely that's a red flag to say they're just fashion boots, not proper boots? Re: construction work - Not sure on the rules in Canada, but in the UK certain workplaces require a steal toecap. Is that an option with nicks?
Thanks for the video sir. I am very interested on the Officer boots. Nicks guide of telling to size down 1/2 or 1 size lower than brannock confuses me. I am size 8E on brannock, on HNW last should i size down to 7E or 7.5E? Even staff from Nicks didn't give me straight answer. 😅
Just go down to a 7.5E I think you’ll be fine. I am an 11C on the brannock and I just ordered my regular size in a 55 last builder pro and they’re spot on for me. Did the quick ship option and it took about 10 weeks to get them
Yes the 2nd pair of Nicks (Overlander) were way too small even though they were supposed to be the same size. My first pair of Nicks and my Franks are absolutely perfect. I bought a pair of Parkhurst Allen boots same size and they are great also. Next pair will be another pair of Franks. Maybe their dress casual.
i would just like to say this, with my urban loggers they hurt right from the jump i could only wear them coupe hours at a time and i Honestly stopped wearing them for months then i put them Back on again they still were hurting and one day it all went away and now they have that pop when you slide you're foot in real boot guys know what i mean by that and they now are just amazing.. you might get so mad and not want to wear them and curse Nick's out just trust me keep pushing through because once you mold them to you're feet you can sleep in them and work another 10 hours with them on no problem.. just remember to clean them brush them oil them up and you will never buy cheap ass Garbage boots again!!!

NEWS FLASH. Boots / shoes made with synthetic materials will make your feet hot as opposed to footwear made with natural materials ! Just a synthetic inner sole will make your feet hotter.
Fantastic video thanks so much! How much do these boots weigh (sorry if i somehow missed it in the video)? Seriously considering it based on the review.
I have identical boots but with honey vibram. I wear them daily as an electrician. I’ve had them for a while and they still give me calluses on my feet. They’re great boots don’t get me wrong….I personally think most fellow construction workers don’t want to wait 7+ months for a work boot? That’s the biggest down fall. Nicks catering to the fashionistas.
That is the best comment I have ever read. I've never even had anyone ask to see my csa tag on Nicks or Whites. With all the lightweight CSA-approved running shoes now, an inspector sees these boots and doesn't look twice, but I like that idea. The CSA label on those old boots is worth more than the boots all of a sudden. Wish I had kept them.
Great review and thanks a lot for that...?! Quick question regarding the sizing, did you went up a half size up with HNW Last or you've stayed with the same size as in 55 Last...?! I've read on some posts that people is going up a half size between 55 Last and HNW Last as the HNW is less arched having more a flatter arch. Thanks in advance and wish you a splendid weekend...!
@@TrustinTimber Thanks a lot mate, I've did exactly the same and waiting for my pair to reach me... Let you know how they are fitting once I'll get them.
The main problem I have with Nicks boots is the weight, well made but on the heavy side. I personally prefer lighter weight boots like Redwing. I have a PNW boot by Drews and that made me realize just how heavy PNW boots are. Nicks are really made for the guy that doesn't mind the weight and like their boots super heavy duty.
Fair enough. I also find Red Wings easy to wear. These Overlanders now being thoroughly broken in are pretty darn cozy and feel pretty light on my feet and for a days work still my go to.
Thanks so much. It’s actually a sample of a vest I’m designing in collaboration with another company. We’ll be releasing that this summer. Just putting it through the paces. Good eye.
Hi! Great review. Questions. What size of boots/shoes do you normally wear and what size are these? And did you put after market insoles in or keep the ones originally? Thanks again!
I have a pair of JK Superduty boots. Same deal I was starting to think I made a bad investment and forced myself to wear them no matter how uncomfortable they were because they were so expensive I forced myself to like them. Its only been 3 weeks and i havent worn my regular shoes since. Im barely sctratching the surface of how capable they are. I work on concrete floors 8-12 hours 5-6 days a week in a kitchen. They're more boot than I'll ever need in my line of work. I've just always wanted a pair of high quality PNW boots. Its not just a long term investment on your wallet but also your joints and skeletal structure. At the end of the day my back and knees aren't killing me. Even after my shift the boots want to keep working. I'm never going back to anything mass produced. If you're doing homework on a good pair of boots like Nicks, Whites, JK etc take the plunge. You won't regret it.
No, they're stitchdown in the front and nail down in the back. Much more durable than Goodyear machine welted. You can find RUclips videos of how they're made
Their customer service has gone downhill - MAJORLY! They've gotten too big for their britches. I wanted custom work done on my smoke jumpers when I got them resoled. I wanted a patch on the upper where I was wearing a hole in the leather by leaning it against a gizzmo in my work truck. The guy just looked at me and said "Yeah, we wont do that". I asked why and he just gave me some canned answer to dismiss the issue. I said I bet if I was bucking Billy Ray you'd do it for me. He said, "Yeah, probably"! It took 5 weeks for a resole, VERY unreasonable! With that experience I'm torn on them as a company because they are the best boots and very comfortable!
All the PNW companies are having issues. I guess they're too popular for their own good. At least Nick's build times are "only" 6 months. Some are over a year. I don't need them, but I want to try the Munson last troopers. Todays Corcorans are not like the ones I had in the 70's (they were probably ten years old "new" when I got them, thanks Dad...).
If you look at their time leads they’re just getting swamped. I think they’re finally getting around to the custom stuff ordered in December. I’d imagine the same thing goes with Whites, JK Boots, Wesco, etc. there’s a major market demographic who are just DONE with cheap synthetic boots. RUclips basically provided a 2 gallon adrenaline shot to this industry.
@@adamsmiths3016 It’s a fairly small business firm. I can’t find any numbers but seems to be currently maybe between 150 and 100. I think in some interview with Grant (their main spokesperson) it used to be like 35 or something only a few years back. Right now they’re just having too much demand for their supply. By comparing my order number from Feb to another in May they’ve had an additional 13,000 orders. You simply can’t expect it to operate on the same scale as Ford or Costco. (Or treat you like garbage like a cable provider.) They’ll get bigger, but it’s very intensive to train people for this kind of product. (Also, I found their customer service excellent. I asked if they could change my order from a FF wide boot to a FFF size and it wasn’t a problem.)
Am I missing something with the slipper comparison? Everyone says they end up feeling like slippers. First of all they weigh 6 lbs, second they're super thick and super tall. It's the opposite of a slipper from what I can tell. My nicks feel good for an extreme ultra heavy work boot, but when I take them off and put slippers on....it feels nice.
I don't think they feel like slippers. My Iron Rangers do - uppers molded to my feet but squat for sole support. I think my Nick's feel more like molded, heavy, and comfortable protective cocoons for my feet, I guess? 🤷🏽
@TrustinTimber took my Nicks about 15 mo to be fully broke in. They're dead comfortable now. Best advice i can give is buy "iron laces" for them. They don't stretch and don't wear I'm 2 yrs in and laces are soft but show no wear.
That 64 leather is really cool, I ordered a pair of the 64 brown when they first released that leather and I had the same experience, really comfortable right outta the box. Had a couple hot spots for a couple weeks but they’re total slippers now, 8 months later. Your absolutely right tho, 90% of people give me the same response when I tell them the price, but in 2/3 years they’ve already spent that same amount and my boots will still be getting better with age ;)
Tried that.. three pair actually custom pair,Perry’s, and there water proof boot.. all gave my feet horrible blisters a corn I had to have removed and pain on bottom of feet. Whites are horrible fucking boots.! Never had a problem at ALL with any nicks I’ve bought.
I was thinking about Nicks boots for a while but now I’m convinced that I won’t buy them. They are so expensive and, breaking in half? I was not expecting that. For all of you who have these- my best wishes and happy days. Over 😂😂
My favorite thing about Nick's is any problem they run into their solution is always let's just throw more leather on it and I love that

yeah, not for everyone. Some people just love running shoes.
To be fair, 650 bucks and 2 and by some reports, 3 month lead times, all from realistically a mail order company is a hard sale.

I’ve bought three pairs of nicks so far and I’m eyeing a fourth.
It's an addiction isn't it.
NEWS FLASH. Boots / shoes made with synthetic materials will make your feet hot as opposed to footwear made with natural materials ! Just a synthetic inner sole will make your feet hotter.
Hello Friend May I Know Did You Sell The 🥾 Boots
Fantastic video thanks so much! How much do these boots weigh (sorry if i somehow missed it in the video)? Seriously considering it based on the review.
Not sure but if weight is an issue hold tight. I’m collaborating on a lighter designed with them for wilderness adventure and wet conditions
I have to know where that vest came from.....also I have 3 pair of Nick's and yes, they're awesome
I'm from Canada to and work on construction. In Canada you hade to have green csa triangle on your boots. Difficulte to fine on pnw boots
Ya simple solution: Take the green triangle off of an old pair and stick them on your good boots. Nobody will look twice.
I kept the same size. Didn't notice any difference.
@@TrustinTimber Thanks a lot mate, I've did exactly the same and waiting for my pair to reach me... Let you know how they are fitting once I'll get them.
Just wondering what happened to the cabin build.
I'm still working on it when I get a chance.
Thanks. Awesome cabin. Looking forward to see how it's coming along.
This is a great video. Thanks
You're welcome!
Love your vest! What is the brand etc.? Thank you.
Thanks so much. It’s actually a sample of a vest I’m designing in collaboration with another company. We’ll be releasing that this summer. Just putting it through the paces. Good eye.
I was just thinking the same thing. Im certainly going to keep an eye out for its release.
Hi! Great review. Questions. What size of boots/shoes do you normally wear and what size are these? And did you put after market insoles in or keep the ones originally? Thanks again!
I sixed down a half-size and still found them a little big. I do usually wear alpaca boot liners at the bottom during the colder months.
@@TrustinTimber Thank you!! Have a great day!
Fantastic video! Thank you for sharing
Great review!
Great Review!
Brilliant video
I should probably do a year-and-a-half review. Still going strong.
I love my Nicks Americanas in horween brown.
yes the Nicks use all leather only man made stuff is eyelids and speed hooks and rubber soles insole is leather PNW are the best boots period
Canadians buy bad boots because they need the CSA green patch and no good boots have that
So just stick an old green triangle on your good boots.
muy bonitas me gustaría comprar un par 😃😃😃
Agree. Wish I got my dad in good boots 20 years ago.
Are these good year welted?
No, they're stitchdown in the front and nail down in the back. Much more durable than Goodyear machine welted. You can find RUclips videos of how they're made
Which model boots are these?
lol its in the title
Smoke jumpers are even a nicks boot. They are from whites. That’s probably why they couldn’t do the custom work and took that long.
@@Spartices to many excuses for these companies. When your charging as much as they do it's unacceptable.

It’s a fairly small business firm.
Hyperbole.
I don't think they feel like slippers. My Iron Rangers do - uppers molded to my feet but squat for sole support.
I think my Nick's feel more like molded, heavy, and comfortable protective cocoons for my feet, I guess? 🤷🏽
Went to order a pair then saw there was a 9 month lead time. They may be great, but they lead time is ridiculous.
Worth the wait. Mine took 5 months and I love them.
🌹one day I'll buy nicks boots..iam saving my pocket money🙏🙏🇮🇳
Good
“These are my homies” 😂
5 months isn't even fully broke in. Come back in another year when you opinion means something.
haha, fair enough. For what it's worth, still wear them and feeling better than ever.
Is the 64 brown different than the 64 walnut?

I'm a Whites guy ...
Tried that.. three pair actually custom pair,Perry’s, and there water proof boot.. all gave my feet horrible blisters a corn I had to have removed and pain on bottom of feet. Whites are horrible fucking boots.! Never had a problem at ALL with any nicks I’ve bought.
I’m still waiting on my MP Sherman’s. Black cxl. Any other models you recommend?
@@averagejoe4101Cutters!
I was thinking about Nicks boots for a while but now I’m convinced that I won’t buy them. They are so expensive and, breaking in half? I was not expecting that. For all of you who have these- my best wishes and happy days. Over 😂😂
wat? the ones breaking in half aint the nicks, those are the cheap boots that he wore before.
They’re not sponsoring this video, but they’re sponsoring some cabin builders that you’re doing. Lol disqualified
What a tedious video.
why are you dressed like that
