I think what will take this channel and the quality of your videos to the next level is not worrying about getting “too nerdy” and half apologizing to the audience. There are so many channels out there that go SO much more micro in the details: James Hoffman on coffee and how you can make your own water to affect the taste, watchmaking channels where millions will happily watch the guy scrape away a spec of dirt for ten minutes. Don’t worry about it, dive in and share your passion freely

      Nothing justifies this price.
For 4k you could buy a 40 yo beat down fun to drive sportscar.
Only a fool would pay 2k for a pair of LEATHER shoe.

    • @D_Jilla
      @D_Jilla 2 года назад +14

@@roberth4395 people spend 10-50k on buying a luxury watch, wedding rings, jewelry. Boots can be used everyday and good leather shoes can last forever if you take care of them properly. A good pair of shoes or accessories makes you feel great and enhances your social life. I think that is worth the price compared to a $4000 rust bucket that only depreciates, and you will have to spend much more to keep her running + gas. Something like that you can take only point A to point B, while quality leather shoes you will always have. Now with that said I can't knock you valuing the shitty sportscar more, especially if you fix up and work on cars. I think a purchase is never foolish if it enhances your mood and life. And, if you calculate cost per wear/ use it's pretty cheap if the item is used often.

@@D_Jilla You broght up good points, but I still stick to my views.
I love top quality leather shoes, but this thing is a waste of money. If you want the best leather shoes for the lovest price then go to central/eastern europe. You can get greater quality for like 1/10 of the price (bespoke).
I am not saying investing in quality leather shoes is a bad choice, what I am saying is that investing in american leather products is one of the worst choices you can make.
If you don't want to travel to europe just for a shoe then do this during your holiday.

26:06 Keep making whatever you like man! I know you're running a business and you get some income from these videos, but in the long run, as a 'customer' what always keeps me coming back is people keeping it real and staying true to themselves without shilling out. Over the years I've unsubscribed and lost interest in loads of good channels and magazines and whatnot because everything they made turned into over-the-top ridiculous clickbait. Now arguably, the title of this video is pretty clickbaity too, but the content is great.
I'd say if you want to hold on to your audience in the long run, authenticity is key. Love these more rambly, long, and random videos. Your genuine enthusiasm and interest is palpable and comes across well. If you'd turn everything into this dull, 100% automated, algorithm-pleasing BS you would totally lose the spark of the channel, as has happened to many, many others.
This channel is the main reason I've gotten really interested in the quality of my own footwear. It's taught me what to look for, and what kinds of things to avoid. So many of my shoes used to break within months, now everything I wear pretty much lasts me years and years. (With the exception of the odd pair of sneakers, perhaps.)
Just keep doin' what you're doin'.

Those are some good looking boots. From my experience with engineer boots they should fit you basically like a western boot when adjusted but without any heel slippage when tighten. If they are that loose on you currently I doubt they will be much better once broken in. You might have to look into getting a custom pair made for you with your full ankle & calf measurements similar to how nick's does tall lineman boots.

I was shocked to hear these boots weren't fitted to him. Seriously, for 2 grand, such a big name and the quality, why wouldn't you measure your customer's foot, ankle and even calfs?
      That's borderline fraud.
I have the Rose Anvil Nick's Boots from 2021 and they were fitting juuust right and I always have to wear thick socks, else they are too big. Before buying, I spent an hour measuring my foot's length and width and converting it to american sizes and checked dozens of websites to be sure it fits. Yet it only fits because of a workaround.
That's not acceptable for 700$, and inadmissible for 2000$.

In 2009 Matthew Crawford was a professor at the University of Virginia, and he published a great book called Shop Class as Soulcraft. Crawford was a philosopher who also worked in his own motorcycle repair shop, and he wrote his book to argue that human beings innately yearn to create tangible things, and he was concerned about the best and brightest being steered towards unfulfilling work in banking and law. Now in the 2020s I see so many people living Crawford’s thesis as the trades, crafts, and arts are being revived, and Rose Anvil embodies that spirit and inspires white-collar drudges like me.

I punched a couple new holes in my ankle strap and wore them for a while and the heel slip has definitely gone down, but it’s still there.
But hopefully with more wear the soles will curl up and reduce the heel slip.

Good on you, brother. Shell engineers are the grail of all grails. I've got a pair of John Lofgren engineers in natural CXL and they definitely felt very roomy with a lot of heel slip when I first got them, so I cinched them down to the tightest hole on the strap and they still felt kind of loose. After breaking them in and wearing them for a couple of years and upgrading to some nice thick boot socks they fit great on the second-to-last hole. Engineers definitely fit different from lace-up boots but once you have it dialed in nothing beats having an ultra-comfortable boot that takes all of about 10 seconds to put on and take off. Plus I feel like a badass pirate cowboy even when my jeans cover everything from the buckle up.

I didn't wear them when I wasn't on the tank most of the day, they killed my feet with regular walking during the day if I had to walk a lot. I am 100% disabled veteran. I have had 17 operations, 9 on my right legs, and I wear mainly boots or very comfortable shoes. I am very picky about what goes on my feet. I think having a second channel where you can be more chill and need out hard without the pressures of the algorithm is fabulous (though I do applaud and congratulate you for the 600k subscribers on the first channel- that’s a massive accomplishment and blessing, and I’m super super happy for man! 🍻). I thoroughly enjoyed this from beginning to end! I learned something when you were talking about the dye color on the backsides of the shell. And yeah, 2005 last isn’t great for skinny feet like yours and mine 😅 Glad you weren’t afraid to punch holes in the straps. That’s the way to go. I’ve done that to my engineers, and it makes a huge difference. Could probably add one more hole on yours honestly….Would have been nice to see more closeups of the stitchdown stitch rows (and the beautiful shell itself I suppose). The fact that Viberg does these as stitchdown is a huge deal. Most makers (including me, if I were a maker) would welt shell, cuz it’s so valuable; wouldn’t wanna risk any issues in manufacturing. Most makers don’t have the guts to do that, and I don’t blame them (which is why these cost $2000). One bad slip while doing the Stitchdown, and a an entire shell vamp is ruined (like you mentioned about the lasting process). Viberg has some dumb quirks sometimes, but I keep coming back cuz Brett has the balls to try cool stuff like this😂 He’s a true restless creative with some backbone, and my appreciation and admiration for that runs deep…..Lastly, massive bonus for putting your feet on the table 😂😂😂 Freaking hilarious and awesome, dude 😄🤘🏽Enjoy these gorgeous boots!! Do an update sometime on the aging and ultimate sizing conclusion 🙏🏽🍻

Wow. Those are gorgeous. I remember in the early 70's, (when I was a kid), when engineer boots were popular. As a teen in the early 80's, I just never saw them again. They kind of disappeared, and I thought of them...as kind of antiquated. An old boot style, so to speak. Today...at 55 years old...I would totally wear those. The style brings back nostalgia. Yeah...those are amazing boots. I could never afford $2000 boots...but I could afford a $500 or $600 engineer boots. I need to go ahead and pull the trigger on a nice pair. Of course...they won't be shell cordovan...but still...that engineer style...is a stunning look. I love the buckles. I also felt the same way about "harness" boots back in the day. They were popular in the 70's, and at one time, I felt that they too, were an antiquated style. Now...I would totally rock them. Even Chelsea boots have made a resurgence. I have a nice pair of chocolate suede Chelsea's, and I think they are just fantastic. The old boot styles...are back in style, and I can see why. They are just classic and beautiful. I need all three. Engineer, Harness, and Chelsea. (But I will never go as far as "Earth Shoes"...lol). Those were terrible looking. Lol. Love your new channel. Looking forward to your new platform/content. You get a "like", and another subscriber.

I found a pair of engineer boots on an attic that was a stash of good from the 40s to the 90s, but mostly 70s stuff... ahh those boots were just so much easier to make me fit than ww2 style jackboots and other slip on boots, especialy the eastern block tanker boots with only shaft fastening belts...

These boots are honestly way better than many sneakers that are over $1000 in resell, the quality, the craftsmanship, the details and the fact that you can resole and have them for years even decades with proper care is well worth the initial price, sneakers that are not worth it are a waste of time and money, these alongside quality clothes last longer than cheap boots and clothes and are better for the environment and your Waller in the long run
Also you deserve to treat yourself, take care of your feet and you’ll be better than most guys who didn’t care for their footwear and will have aches and pains and eventually surgery in their later years

I agree. I'm not a sneakerhead but have a few minimalist sneakers in different colors, but I would never buy common projects, which cost as much as my Allen edmonds shell cordovan boots (getting shell boots at the cost of calfskin boots is a total steal, had a contact that would let me know her store inventory when my size came in). Those vibergs are awesome, but out of my price range, but if anyone can afford them, more power to them.

I worked in the logging industry here on Vancouver Island for 45 years and I can honestly say that Viberg's are the best Caulk Boots I ever owned, they last 2 or 3 times longer than Paris or Dayton's, I think it's not just because of the Water Buffalo leather but the workmanship that went into them. By the way Engineer Boots should be fairly easy to slip on and off.

Love all the vids. featuring the different brands and designs of boots. I am from South Africa and love my boots!!! I own the different types of boots that one supposedly needs. 😜
All my boots have been purchased at chain stores and outlets, but regarded as high quality, but not nearly as costly as the boots in the US 🇺🇸, so most probably not as high quality, but I still love them 🌹❤️
Some are more than ten years old and look as it has been purchase yesterday, cause I take great care of them. One thing I have learned when driving is that I only put my boots on when arriving at my destination. The boots featured in this video is super expensive and in Rand value it is ZAR 30 000 and I would not be able to afford it. In 2016 I had the opportunity to move to the US 🇺🇸 via intercompany transfer, but unfortunately due to the down spiral of the Mining and Minerals Industry those positions became obsolete. Love your videos, your boots!!!
    Oh yes.....lastely...........VOTE DONALD TRUMP!!!! 😼 😎
