Situated in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, spanning the border between Nevada and Arizona, Hoover Dam is a remarkable concrete arch-gravity dam. Constructed amid the Great Depression from 1931 to 1936, it was dedicated on September 30, 1935, by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The dam's construction involved a massive effort with thousands of workers, costing over 100 lives. Initially named Boulder Dam by the Roosevelt administration, it was later restored to Hoover Dam by Congress in 1947, honoring President Herbert Hoover.
The Mike O'Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, an awe-inspiring arch bridge, gracefully spans the Colorado River between Arizona and Nevada. Located within the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, approximately 30 miles southeast of Las Vegas, the bridge carries Interstate 11 and U.S. Route 93. Unveiled in 2010, it played a pivotal role in the Hoover Dam Bypass project, rerouting US 93 and enhancing the overall travel experience. This bridge bears a joint namesake, honoring Mike O'Callaghan, Nevada's Governor from 1971 to 1979, and Pat Tillman, a former NFL player turned Army enlistee who tragically lost his life in Afghanistan in 2004.
