  • Hoover Dam, spanning the Colorado River between Nevada and Arizona, provides electricity and water for many residents, but did you know how it works or that history lies in a town not very far away? Today we take a look at this engineering marvel.
History of the Hoover Dam is lurking everywhere you look! Minutes from the dam itself in Boulder City is the Boulder Dam Hotel, built in the 1930s. This historic hotel, named after the dam's original name - Boulder Dam - provides charm and class for visitors to the area.
In the day, the hotel was popular with tourists and celebrities alike. Some celebrities included Shirley Temple, Will Rogers, Bette Davis, and Boris Karloff.
After being renovated in the 1990s, the hotel boasts an impressive Hoover Dam museum - completely free! The museum tells the tale of the people who built the dam and what peril they endured to accomplish the incredible engineering feat.
The Hoover Dam itself offers tours that travel through the very same tunnels dug out of the rock to the bottom where generators produce electricity. From there, one continues up through elevators and tunnels to peer out from the dam itself before ending at the top where one can cross from Arizona to Nevada and back, view down at the Colorado River, or back at Lake Mead.
Finally, a short distance from the Hoover Dam is the Mike O'Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge where some of the best views of the Hoover Dam exist.

Wow, I had no idea about the museum at the hotel. Really cool. I haven't taken the tour since I was a kid, and it looks the same as I remember it which is kind of cool.

Possibly a good thing the place looks the same as when you were young. I'd worry otherwise. 😅

I'm watching this again, it's such an interesting good one...just realized that I think the track for the monkey slide is what Glenn saw when he was kayaking in Lake Mead...I could be wrong but I remember him wondering about that, I guess he forgot or didn't realize the link between that and that...if it's that lol

I have never seen the bolder dam hotel! I will have to check it out. I have seen and toured the dam many times, I was lucky enough to get a tour before 9-11, and they took us outside the dam at the bottom.

The hotel is absolutely worth it. They did a nice job on the museum portion. 👍

As always thank you for another wonderful trip! I remember going on that tour in High School but I can hardly recall any of the facts, so the refresher was great. I still want to believe that Jimmy is in the concrete somewhere 🤣🤣

Such a great video! So much interesting information you guys soak in during your travels! That hotel is such a gem and I enjoyed the tour! I took it a few years ago- and I still learned some facts that I didn’t remember from when I visited!

Our pleasure! Tours are always a funny thing. Depending on what the guide shares and how distracted one can be looking around (I'm completely that type), there's always new things to learn on a second tour (even virtually). 😄

Thanks for the really cool tour. Brings back good memories when I was there around 30 years ago. I have to go back after seeing this. Especially since I also live in Phoenix so it's not too far.

Really not that long of a drive when you stop and think about it. Hopefully you get a chance to see it again as well as view it from the bridge. Really such a great way to take it all in since it can be hard to while on top of it. 😊
