thank you for this explanation. I didn't know about doing it in the 3rd person so that will be helpful (and also very challenging because I thrive on the one on one connection with the speaker) for my upcoming competition
You're welcome! This was tough for me as well at first; however, for the contest itself, it's best to be in 3rd person. What's most important is not to bounce back and forth between 1st and 3rd person.
I was just going into evaluating Level 5 Presentation Mastery speech and this was such a helpful video. I especially like the structure and tip that to stay in third person while evaluating. great job and thank you for doing this.
I think the conclusion should not be so generic as you described. "In conclusion ..." then you remind the audience of the strengths and weaknesses of John's speech.
You're so welcome! I have a newer video on Speech Evaluation Contests that I posted last month on my channel that goes more in-depth if you need more info!
I really truelly love your tips and I will continuing listen to all your tips for Toastmasters, I also love how you get into details when it comes on to Evaluations. Great advice thank.
Thanks for taking the time to watch! You will! The best evaluations are genuine ones that help the speaker understand what he/she did well and where he/she can improve.
Thanks for the Video, very helpful. Are the club members supposed to inform new bees on this? Seems like to be thrown into the water not knowing what was to be expected.
You're welcome! I'm glad it was helpful for you! In my experience, veteran club members will often help out newbies by informing them how speech contest and evaluation contest judging criteria works. But it depends on the club and club members.
Yes. I'm preparing for my first contest, and it is for Speech Evaluation, I am uncomfortable with giving evaluations or critically reviewing someone else's efforts to succeed.
Thta's understandable, but remember that your perspective is relevant and can help speakers who you are evaluating. I hope this video gives you some tips and ideas to help you succeed at the contest! Let me know how it goes.
@@wadepaterson hey Wade, sorry for this very late reply but there is a whole lot going on in my neck of the woods! I came in 2nd place. What an amazing experience it was! I think I was much better prepared after watching your video! Thanks for sharing it with us💕
Good question! I'd say, no. Simply mentioning the things the person did well (for example: Body Language, Vocal Variety, etc) and then the things they need to improve upon is sufficient! Good luck!
Hi there , absolutely brilliant explanation, gained a lot of confidence for my upcoming evaluation contest listening to you, by the way I am from District 120 Chennai - India. Thank you very much. God bless you
Hey Chris! Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately, they weren't recorded at the time; however, this is a good idea to record a future evaluation at my club. Right now we're still doing virtual meetings, but when we get back to in-person I might record one and then break down the method I used after. Cheers!
@@wadepaterson Thanks mate. I just came second in the division evaluation contest yesterday. Still, not a bad result for my first time entering it. cheers for your vid it helped.
@ thanks to you I placed. I didn’t win but with the information you shared I felt more prepared than ever when I taken this role during club meetings. I came in 3rd place. Thank you sooo much.
So you signed up for your Speech Evaluation Contest with Toastmasters and you're realizing how much money you just wasted that could go to other, far more important things, but you're keeping yourself in a box by looking at videos like this instead of just looking at the free speaking tutorials you can find littering the internet. Superb 👍
