People who aren't in a PSN region can just make a Sony account and lie about the country and no you won't get banned, been doing it for over a decade. The data argument is also invalid. You're afraid of them leaking your email and Sony password? Just make your Sony password a unique one. I'm just saying this situation is mildly inconvenient at worst and PC players are destroying this community for literally no reason. It's also an insane assumption that you're just gonna SOL and be stuck with an unplayable game.
What’s funny is they could have got a majority of the playerbase to link an account easily by making it have a cosmetic incentive. So if you linked ur account you would get an exclusive set or something that way people who have accounts are more inclined to do it and people who don’t don’t have to
As of 28 minutes ago Sony posted on Twitter: “Helldivers fans -- we’ve heard your feedback on the Helldivers 2 account linking update. The May 6 update, which would have required Steam and PlayStation Network account linking for new players and for current players beginning May 30, will not be moving forward. We’re still learning what is best for PC players and your feedback has been invaluable. Thanks again for your continued support of Helldivers 2 and we’ll keep you updated on future plans.”

Nah. They agreed to it to begin with, purposefully hid it from consumers, and then tried to blame Sony at the end of it all. They knew the entire time, and chose not to say anything about it. The devs are just as bad - if not worse.
Congratulations. You managed to remove yourself from 90% of all markets. Well done Sony. Edit: they decided they actually like money and reverted the change. And I thought this big business hated money for a second.
Rather than making it mandatory, they could just give in-game rewards to anyone connecting their account to a PSN account. Sony would gain their metrics, the executives would get their bonus, the players would be happy. Problem solved. But no, they have to make it hard
@@Arxy12 It is, because to have a PSN account you have to upload an ID now a days. They sell all of the information you provide to them. Name, Address, DL/ID Number, Birthday, ect. Additionally, many people are turned away from them due to actions like this, loss of data via hacks, ect. They have reduced their market & market share.
It's not only just a nuisance to have to link accounts like this. It's also yet another way for these corporations that want you to link your already established account on some other platform, to accounts on their platform, to collect your data. Which likely includes, but is not limited to all of your communications with other players while in-game lol.

You can't refund a game if you've played more than 2 hours, the game company however, CAN change ToS after you've played 2 hours, seems perfectly legit.
If you tell steam that it’s because of the change in terms of service, they should give you a refund. It just has to be said in a specific way and you have to say it has to do with multiplayer.
make a good game: Publisher ruins it. Make a bad game: Publisher cancels you = layoffs. No Publishers: No Drama Edit: I now learned that Arrowhead CEO Knew months before, that Sony will force Players to Link PSN Accounts. faith destroyed. i just want to go back to 1998.
You really don't need a publisher anymore in the modern age. Publishers are just a dinosaur now; a holdover from the days when games needed physical media and needed to be sent out to physical game stores. Now that we have Steam, you can easily self-publish; you pay a small fee and Steam handles everything associated with getting your game listed. Of course, all this goes out the window if for some reason you want to be on console as well. If the reason Arrowhead went to Sony is for money, they could have just gone directly to the potential playerbase instead and crowdfunded it.
The solo dev for Songs of Syx is also self published. I really love that, especially since it’s an EA game and most EA games published, for example, by hooded horse follow massive over-hype campaign that make their EA games look like fantastic finished products. Most publishers suck (and not just in the gaming industry), and those that try to look like they are good are just faking it to gain popularity points, especially with the EA smooth-brained white-knights
Yeah, let me say, as a professional game dev who knows a lot of people in the AAA space… no publisher DEFINITELY doesn’t mean no problems. Unfortunately that’s the world we live in.
If the game survives, I wanna see crossover DLC of the Alien Franchise. With the Queen Alien being the boss and Face huggers being a unique enemy that can kill you instantly, eventually over the span of the match if caught. Acidic blood that corrodes armor, and Royal guards that help let you know you’re nearing the Queens lair.
Sony really let Arrowhead cook up one of the best games of the last decade, and just as it was looking like this game would actually be more than one of those hits that only lasts for a month or two, they just thought “Now if only there were a way for us to fuck this up.” God damn I hate video game publishers.
They're legitimately useless. Just corporate bloat with predatory legal teams and braindead execs. Self publishing is the way to go, come hell or high water. Is corporate money really worth the losses that negate the investment put in?
Ppl are overreacting imo. Sony is looking at you all and shrugging their shoulders. AH is in a panic, and players are gonna continue to play games that have the same requirements being asked of right now. The difference? They just asked for it earlier.
I think what it is is that they made it optional initially thinking that most people would link their accounts, with few skipping that. But when nobody did it voluntarily they decided to force it on everyone
I agree with Louis Rossman on this. If the devs/publishers can change the ToS at any moment after your purchase then gamers/customers should be able to return the product at any moment with no questions asked
Helldivers 2 is one of the best shooters we’ve gotten in a while and all Sony had to do was sit back and enjoy the benefits. But they couldn’t even do that correctly, instead they had to sabotage a live service game that wasn’t predatory and wasn’t terrible. I feel so bad for the devs, they don’t deserve this
@@ExtantPerson They still knew about it and was watching people buy the game without giving clear warnings. They let people waste their money. They're not innocent.
This probably had a good bit to do with its success and Sony wanting to cut out Valves take on the microtransactions since they were processed through Steam
I think it also comes down to the principle of it like Louis Rossman said; if game companies can just change their terms of service AFTER releasing the game at any point down the line, then what exactly is the customer agreeing to when they purchase the games? Its also a double standard because customers aren't allowed to violate the terms but the company is allowed to amend them however they want, its ridiculous imagine buying a house and then the bank tells you 'we've changed our mind, we own the house now because we helped you pay for it"
It's not really like that though, the game always said it would require psn on the store page. It was just disabled at launch because it caused some server issues or something.
It's just sad to see how a big soulless company can ruin an amazing project, how a studio can be affected by choices of people who have nothing to do with their project.

Bonuses are not based on a steady stream of money only gains in areas.
Another smaller issue that shrunk the player count was people's preferences in a community-powered co-op game, with a metagame about working collectively to fight a war on multiple fronts. Many players chose to keep playing on Terminid planets to the detriment of the Automaton front. Bit of a personal bias on this one but I was really looking forward to feeling like this was a mobile, responsive army redeploying where needed and working together and the rebalances to weapons in fairness made it trickier for some players to adjust to bots when they already needed a change in tactics, but while I find it a little harder I adjusted and enjoy going wherever my orders take me (Except for Hellmire. Fuck "Fire Tornadoes", and the horse they rode in on). But while it's clear that most people enjoyed jumping into Malevolon Creek and fighting bots until they were wiped off the map for a day and then came back, overall I think some people didn't appreciate that this is an online live service video game that is meant to run for a number of years and not a linear action game with a storyline that can be finished in ten hours like they used to be, but player counts according to planets show that many players clearly prefer one faction and so success in the metagame is skewed in favour of those who continue playing Terminid missions. Bot mains felt jilted that their work was undone and it was only a downhill battle to hold planets from there, people who prefer bugs got bored and sneered at other players as they refused to help with future major orders elsewhere, and bickering on Discord over people playing one or the other exclusively led to massive reduction in players on the bot front and now no new planets can be taken, I watched the concurrent player numbers drop from one weekend to the next immediately following that. Conversation turned so petty and regularly argumentative that I suggested the bot players move to a different part of the Discord to discuss what planets to work together on without all the catcalling on every other message (again, this is a community-driven co-op game), and a moderator (no, not the one you're thinking of) sent a comment addressing argumentative behaviour and preference on how to play, to the chat where the bot players had just moved to, but not to the general chat where "bug players" had been dismissive and beginning to become openly hostile. It was deflating for me and I haven't bothered engaging with the server since. This may have been in response to earlier weeks where bot players had expressed disappointment or anger about major orders failing despite bug players answering requests for help on the bot front, but I didn't see any of that myself so without evidence I can't make assumptions about that. Since then I am pleased to say on balance, that we have been able to successfully defend ONE planet, as an uptick of players from a peak of 3k to 33k on on bot planet saw an attack on the forward operating base on Vernen Wells repelled as of last night. And then the last and most damning has been the most unfortunate decision (presumably by Sony) to enforce the Sony account requirements that were advertised on the game from the start but Arrowhead likely decided not to enforce, that part's deeply regrettable and I completely understand the irritation that came from across the community about that, as people have genuine info security concerns after all the times they got hacked. Worse still, people are still not able to buy or possibly even play the game in numerous countries because red tape over this mess led to the game being removed from Steam altogether. This needs to be addressed immediately and I hope all the countries affected can play again very soon! :D As I said I've been on the Discord, following along with the Baskinator drama, and also having a peek at the far-right's reaction to anything suggesting that this game is a satire made by people they hate, and from what I've seen there's been too many complaints about minor issues that have impacted the game's player count over time. The Sony situation should not have been allowed to happen as it's a bit ludicrous to expect PC players to sign up to a console company but to be brutally honest, there was no way Arrowhead could keep up with all this and keep everyone happy. A good hundred or so bugs to fix, servers that had to be expanded, more content needed for experienced players to keep them engaged, the content added or changed not being amazing enough, the game not being apolitical enough, all of this has been dunked on, and rather unfairly for the most part from what I can see. The team had about 100 people as of last year and they are getting used to developing a different kind of game to their previous offerings, and we're only three months in. I stand with the community on the Sony situation, but if it weren't for that, my view of this community for a co-op game would be scathing as they've failed to appreciate how clearly keen Arrowhead has been to deliver a fun, balanced and welcoming experience for everyone regardless of their background and preference of playing. All of the players I've encountered have been great but overall it's clearly a different breed to Deep Rock Galactic's very kind and supportive player base, though in fairness DRG doesn't have a galaxy map to conquer together and Ghost Ship Games had the time to build up their audience and their expectations over 6 years. Okay longest comment ever or TL;DR, say what you want but I've enjoyed this game immensely since March and wanted to show that there's been multiple understandable and normal circumstances that could be fixed with time as well as all the drama and people being quick to criticise Arrowhead, please just bear with them and I'm sure they can provide us with a game that all of us (or at least more people than not) would come to love and enjoy for years!

Remember when you could play minecraft without linking a microsoft AND a mojang account? Oh yeah that was fine that they made the change but helldivers?!?! Unforgivable.
You know what saddens me. The fact that Sony probably won't suffer from this even though they are the ones who are mostly at fault. While the ones who will bear all the suffering and persecution is Arrowhead, who were only partially at fault. In the end, the only people whose lives were truly affected won't be the dipshits in Sony, nor would it be the gamers who lost access to this game. They would just refund and move on. The ones truly affected are the people in Arrowhead, who undeniably poured their heart and soul into their game they have been making for 7 years. Helldivers 2 and AH being a small company were like the underdog of the current gaming industry, standing up to the big dogs, and they were killing it. Everybody wants to see the underdog succeed. But now, because of a forced play from the big dogs, the support that the underdog had turned against them, and the big dogs remains untouched.
To everyone who wants refund from the steam. I had 450 hours in game and requested refund with these words and was successful: "Sony has retroactively changed how the game works and forced legal agreements upon me I do not accept". I received full refund in less than 24 hours.

this is why ive been vibing with Xbox lately tbh, while not perfect i think theyre making strides in the gaming community for things like connectivity and crossplay. they make their money off the games and so providing to more rather than trivially locking it for their console has been working. Its also just better for us players cause now are games are fuller and i can play with my PC buddies rather than hording first party titles xbox releases the newer ones throughout the markets, making windows crossplay and pushing for crossplatform, If i remember correctly Even Minecraft had issues with sony tryna be crossplay between the Bedrock Edition. gamepass is banger (not all games are good but its a good alternative to buying). As of like a couple days ago xbox released a bunch of older first party games to PS including like Sea Of Thieves and several others etc. Xbox isnt perfect but they learned to share and expand, Sony and Nintendo too busy being pretentious to grow. Nintendo will SWAT a 14yr old for drawing mario in school art class claiming it infringes their copyright, and playstation hasnt grown with the age of connectivity (and apparently do shit like this). Its just sad I was looking forward to my PS5 coming, finally get all the games ive been missing on but not it just feels tainted since Helldivers was one of those games I was look forward to trying
I think Sony did this on purpose. Helldivers was the first game in a long time to break the classic cash cow methods by removing limited time battle passes, allowing purchasable currency to be found in game, no loot boxes or luck based purchases, and fair prices on cosmetics and passes that don’t impact the game that much. Sony did not want Helldivers to be an example that you can still hit big and make money without these greedy methods. They want the old greedy purchases back and they certainly don’t want a game like Helldivers setting a standard.

Game development is risky these days. you could spend billions, spend 10 years in development, call it a AAAA game and people will not buy your pos game. But then HD2 came along and showed us what game development could be, only for Sony to show us how the world works
Sony does this regularly with good games too. They do it intentionally so they can say that shoveling their shit slop is the only thing that works. Microsoft, Ubi, and EA all do it too.
The worst part is that if Sony was doing this for money and play count, it’s completely backfiring because now everyone who bought the game in certain countries is refunding it and not playing anymore. Way to go Sony you just lost about 30% of your players.
Well, peak weekend players dropped by right around 50% in a single weekend. Not a good look. And its probably people desperately trying to get some last minute enjoyment. I am waiting to see how hard it tanks when it goes through
As a cybersecurity student, I can confirm that there is 0 security benefit to linking your steam account to your PSN account, in fact if implemented poorly it can be a security flaw.
Helldivers 2 dropped their account linking situation. However, after players tanked Helldivers 2 on reviews it caused a massive issue. Especially with people requesting refunds and such.
all sony had to do is give people cosmetics for linking their account, not make it mandatory, and they would’ve gotten more people to sign up and none of this would’ve happened. also i saw someone say this is actually the “let’s cut the goose open to take all the golden eggs” fable and that couldn’t be more accurate
Thats all fine and dandy for people not blacklisted. Thousands of people who now can't play. That's the biggest issue here; for everyone else, it's just an incovienance.

3:10 it is for them to have more control over playerbase and whatnot so that its necessary to use something they completely control, so they could tighten the screws in the future So that if someone bypasses steam he will also need to bypass PSN so that if this if that its not for your security Its for their security so that their capacity to feed players with shit is secured
Honestly, I almost wonder if Sony is sabotaging Helldivers 2 on purpose. Like, I don't think the gaming industry appreciates that the best selling games aren't AAA titles that were made by small teams with a small budget sold at the low-low price of $40. You can also try to argue, as I've seen people do, that they can then point to this and say, "SEE! YOU CAN'T PLEASE GAMERS NO MATTER WHAT, EVEN IF YOUR GAME WAS SUPER SUCCESSFUL AT LAUNCH!" Probably just a silly theory, but I certainly wouldn't be surprised if it was partially true.
The game sabatoged itself before this, look at the charts. There is only 25 hours of playable content in the game. After that level 9 missions are trivial in a non-braindead squad, and there is nothing to earn that matters. They need to release 10 more levels of difficulty or this game is dead in 3-5 months.

When you are the layer between normal employee and corporate, you realize to them its all about goosing those numbers even if something makes lots of money you got to squeeze more and more to you kill it instead of having a steady stream of revenue.
As I said I've been on the Discord, following along with the Baskinator drama, and also having a peek at the far-right's reaction to anything suggesting that this game is a satire made by people they hate, and from what I've seen there's been too many complaints about minor issues that have impacted the game's player count over time.

1 case of games being removed arbitrarily
1 case of movies/tv shows being removed arbitrarily
I'm not doing round 5 with Sony's bs.

Sony is the only place I've been hacked from. At least as far as places that ever had credit card from me. To their credit they fixed it pretty quickly, but the hackers made a child account on my account that I couldn't detach without calling them back. I just dropped my entire PS account and washed my hands of their stupidity, and I'm not about to go back either.
You had it rough buddy. Time to kick this shit sony out of your room..........

@@Kingnothing7x These are from years ago, this is less "I'm done with Sony" and more "I dropped them years ago and can attest to the reason to stay away."
Cant believe they are backpeddling the backpeddle and youre gonna need one.
Steam opened refunds to people because they were fully against Sony doing this crap and people were able to get refunded for it. It doesn't seem refunds are open on the US but yknow.
“You know adding it to Xbox with cross play would boost the game overall and bring back some players if y-“
Sony:”No.”
this is why ive been vibing with Xbox lately tbh, while not perfect i think theyre making strides in the gaming community for things like connectivity and crossplay. they make their money off the games and so providing to more rather than trivially locking it for their console has been working. Its also just better for us players cause now are games are fuller and i can play with my PC buddies
rather than hording first party titles xbox releases the newer ones throughout the markets, making windows crossplay and pushing for crossplatform, If i remember correctly Even Minecraft had issues with sony tryna be crossplay between the Bedrock Edition. gamepass is banger (not all games are good but its a good alternative to buying).
Its just sad
I was looking forward to my PS5 coming, finally get all the games ive been missing on but not it just feels tainted since Helldivers was one of those games I was look forward to trying
I think sony realy forced us to create psn so that they can flex it to xbox that they have an million active players than xbox 😂
@@thatplayathough8101yeah they aren’t perfect but they are definitely more advanced in certain areas
They want the old greedy purchases back and they certainly don’t want a game like Helldivers setting a standard.
you are a wise man
bigger conspiracy: the US government forced them to do it, as a way to prevent us from playing with chinese, russian and african players.
can't have world war 3 if we refuse to kill each other
Literally wrong, it was listed that it would require psn at launch and was only postponed due to server issues. Sony is now merely enforcing it.

Something I haven’t seen pointed out that helldivers does, is that the new content just drops, no annoying trailer telling us it’ll release in a month, no they just suddenly drop content
Game development is risky these days. you could spend billions, spend 10 years in development, call it a AAAA game and people will not buy your pos game. But then HD2 came along and showed us what game development could be, only for Sony to show us how the world works
Billions?
Sony does this regularly with good games too. They do it intentionally so they can say that shoveling their shit slop is the only thing that works. Microsoft, Ubi, and EA all do it too.
@@envy7455 he's talking about skull and bones
The worst part is that if Sony was doing this for money and play count, it’s completely backfiring because now everyone who bought the game in certain countries is refunding it and not playing anymore. Way to go Sony you just lost about 30% of your players.
From what I heard, that number is more around the 60% mark.
@@nicholasholloway8743roughly 2/3'rd of thr globe yes. Including large parts of Asia which is mega ouch mode, numbers wise.

All they want are those sweet PSN numbers to show their shareholders, and they’ll sacrifice the whole game for it
They did it for 2 reason, bloat psn numbers and control. Basically a ceo wanted a bonus so they posion this game

As a cybersecurity student, I can confirm that there is 0 security benefit to linking your steam account to your PSN account, in fact if implemented poorly it can be a security flaw.
yea, lets give Sony root level access to our PCs
there is no benefit for end-user at all. only "benefits" for companies
i'm not happy with the sittuation but the reality is that
steam only share with sony your steam id which is public
Sony's databases are regularly hacked with personal info leaked.
More than likely a flaw considering Sony’s reputation for security lol
Helldivers 2 is everything all the 343 halos combined would ever want to be and wont ever be
Helldivers 2 dropped their account linking situation.
That's the biggest issue here; for everyone else, it's just an incovienance.
for real, there is the TR-7 Ambassador of the Brand pre order armor set. It's literally a walking ad for a super earth company, I bet ArrowHead could have made something similar as a sign up bonus.

also, why would i need to create a PSN account for playing a game on PC? i never even owned a PS.

It’s wild that they would allow the game to release without requiring a PSN account and then say that they’ll enforce it months after launch, locking out over 2/3 of the world. Sony is insane.
That is was the devs fault

You can't just move countries? C'mon I do it all the time
@@kadenk9298 PSN is allowed in vast majority of countries, even the ones that are not listed. All you need to do is select a region that speaks your language. That is how millions of people in those countries who own a PS use PSN, it's literally the same for Xbox. If anything PS has more support in third world countries than Xbox. YOU CAN'T PLEASE GAMERS NO MATTER WHAT, EVEN IF YOUR GAME WAS SUPER SUCCESSFUL AT LAUNCH!"
Probably just a silly theory, but I certainly wouldn't be surprised if it was partially true.
That's a terrifying thought but honestly i can see it being true
Likely is
The game sabatoged itself before this, look at the charts. There is only 25 hours of playable content in the game. After that level 9 missions are trivial in a non-braindead squad, and there is nothing to earn that matters. They need to release 10 more levels of difficulty or this game is dead in 3-5 months.
why would they want games to fail that makes them money
I’ve been preaching this man. I absolutely believe this is retaliatory for beating out AAA games
