    Put something in there that almost nobody puts in one!!! A 460 badass, radicule big block!! Everyone puts an LS with a turbo, etc. in them, that's older than the crust in my dead grandma's underware FFS!! Put a badass Ford in a Ford once in your life!! If that's too much cost, go watch several Ben Alameda Racing videos, that guys got all kinds of insights on building all kinds of Ford motahs that will make giant power, and be fun and inexpensive!! Those little 302's can make and take upwards of 500ish hp, go to a 351 Windsor and they can handle 600+hp, in the right block they'll take 1000hp!! I say keep it all Ford, and this is coming from a Chevy guy!!

    I have been there MANY times with fox bodies. Have had everything from stock turd AODE cars to LS swapped turbo Holley efi ones. Take my advice..........Freshen up the 302, buy an Edelbrock RPM kit....the whole kit heads, intake, cam and all. Slap a Holley 650 dbl pmp carb on it and be happy Everything else snowballs. If you go LS.......AJE K member, stock spring perches, cowl hood and a whole 5.3 4l60e will slide right in , intake , alternator and all. Even the air compressor fits. Stay away from "cool" billet stuff and it is cheap. Stay away from Snipers...I have had two on cars and have one on my Big Block C10 works, but not worth the money.

    Ok.. I've built 3 foxbodys.. my current is a 90 coupe with a coyote and vmp tvs.. the other 2 started off as 302 base motors that eventually got 351w (408w) put in..and my advice on a budget is to build a early 70s 351w block build cause people that have the 93 and later roller"" blocks think they have gold and that's just not the case when all you have to do is buy linked lifters..some are pricey but you could find used but I would buy new.. the older block is gonna hold wayyy more power later on down the road..boost.. nitrous.. etc.. then find a set of 3 bar gt40s or for the same money you can find a used set of Windsor SR's heads.. but a good set of ported gt40s are just as good..and do yourself a favor and carb it.. single plane intake..fyi..dual plane intake will have more down low tourqe and idle better but the single plane will have more top end.. you don't need none of the efi crap.. the trans is gonna be a weak point behind the 351w.. the money you save not buying none of that efi can be put towards a used tremec tko 600..or a if you can find it a G force t5.. if you plan on boosting it later don't cheap out on a good trans..and those gt40s ported will work really good behind boost..
    Now... if... you want to really have a good motor that you can put boost behind it and the swap is fairly cheap..gen 1 f150 motor 6r80 combo.. you can buy them separately and save some money..
    The control pack unfortunately is gonna be the most priciest thing you buy.. unless you find it used but make sure it's for a 6r80 or whatever trans you decide to go with a tr3650 trans is a good trans as well.. if you want to go stick. The prices for a gen 1 f150 motor has come wayy down..(I personally would go with a gen 2 f150 motor).. any one of these options are good in there on way but the gen 1 coyote is your best bang for your buck..
    What state are you in btw?.. the costs for gen 1 swaps vary.. the further west you go the pricier they get..I live in fla..tons of inventory 😅..

      I have a hard time trying to convince myself these cars shouldn't be carb swapped. I have a 79 pace car. It's carbed. I ditched the Duraspark setup for nice MSD ignition, only to switch back to Duraspark 2. Timing advance (vacuum and mechanical) is dialed in. Car starts and runs perfectly, even with a pretty rowdy cam. It has electric choke. The oem efi stuff is basically obsolete. Aftermarket is pretty nice but really expensive... and for what? So when it breaks you can wait for 2 weeks till an expensive replacement part comes in? I've been through that, as well. New efi will fail and the warranty on most of it sucks, as does the quality. If your carb messes up, you can usually find replacement parts locally or from a friend. A carb never left my car unusable for weeks at a time. Aftermarket efi and ignition has.
      Now, if you plan on boosting it and making it really fast, efi is your best bet. You can monitor afr, spark, and timing much better. But at that point, reliability (in a daily driver sense) isn't going to be an issue. You'll be breaking other things, like transmissions, diffs, axles, blocks, etc.

The P heads and turbo kit headerrs may interfere with each other as far as installing plugs so, you will probably need a regular set of gt40 heads but, the explorer upper/lower intake will be fine, accufab 70mm TB, a matched 70mm Pro M MAF and 53lb injectors and a decent fuel regulator. No matter what you do, 5K minimum or pull motor, regasket, new rings, new bearing and slap it back togeter with a carb and some sort of HP adder NOS/Blower U know what I mean. I lke the ON3 idea the best/doable $$ option. Who knows, ON3 may make a set of turbo headers for the GT40P heads, that would solve $$ problems, tons of those heads on FB or junkyard for less then $250. Good Luck and I'll keep watching!

    I had a 1990 LX notch and it had a Lunatti voodoo cam and ported upper and lower intake. I didn’t build it, just bought it that way. It was very fast. Don’t know how. Had the factory efi still too. Got 21 mpg too. Trans synchro or something went out and I lost all gears so sold it back to the guy I bought it from since I was a broke college kid. It would pin your head back and that was 1999 technology!

    I wouldn't use a terminator x with a heads cam motor. You can go old school and get maf to match the injectors. Look for a used c @ l meter . I have bought nice used parts at foxtober fest swap meet .

    Personally there no more bigger disappointment the tearing into a project and finding what you have thought all along. Then have to search for motor options. Go with the 351 out the gate , then you can’t be disappointed because you made a plan ahead of time. Not a ford guy but keep it ford. Everyone seen the ls in a fox body swap. It’s a lot of money for the 351 plan you have , but if that’s what you want then 9k is just a number…… still hurts though lol

    You don't need the Holley High ram intake manifold and LS TB to go Terminator X. Explorer engine with a cam swap is the cheapest way to back running. I chose to go turbo with Terminator X on the stock engine. So far so good. When it expires i will determine which is cheaper 351 or LS. Transmission options are a big part of the cost. You can run the older 351 cams are even cheaper for them.

    • @VeteranRevivals
      @VeteranRevivals  7 месяцев назад

      Valid, I can just do the harness and Terminator to bypass the A9L.

    • @russellbroadwell
      @russellbroadwell 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@VeteranRevivals A9L is pretty forgiving. If you're not going wild it might not need a tune. I am not a tuner, and I am too stubborn to pay one. The Holley's will adjust fuel to run target AFR which is really cool, but there are some canned spark tables. They are good enough, but a dyno tuner will tell you they can do better. I still have not gotten the idle my great (see above).
      So if you want a cruiser explorer motor mild cam no tune A9L. If you want more power and SBF I would go Terminator X and a power adder, or LS (and maybe still power adder)

    Well....as a fellow Foxbody owner who has contemplated pretty much all that you've mentioned. I have to say... the Sniper 2 route has me intrigued. My 2Tone '87 Vert is as you know, Speed Density. Why would I even attempt just a plain old MassAir Swap with an A9L? When there is Terminator, Fast and Sniper 2 available. 351 is out, don't want to lose my Sleek looking Stock hood, nor go with solid motor mounts. 331 Stroker was high on the list, due to the fact that I have 302 roller from a 94 F150 sitting on a stand, short block only. But machine work is also crazy $$$$, not to mention and Eagle Forged Stroker kit.
    But to be honest, I would like to see the Sniper 2 route...

    Gt40 intake upgrade isn't that much or a complete explorer engine swap if it's bad and I don't necessarily think you'll need to change injectors you won't be able to make much more than 500 on those blocks anyway unless your gonna run boost then yeah fo sho I'm in the same boat as you I got a pro charger trick flow heads long tube headers gt40 upper lower still need a valve train for heads and a cam prob will need to upgrade distributer injectors throttle body map and I'm sure a hundred other things just to get the 450 500 hp my next roller I'm going ls at least the ceiling will be higher
