  • In this video I share how to cut diy leather earrings using a Cricut Maker machine. You can also make these leather earrings with a Cricut Explore Air. I make them on the video and show several other completed projects with genuine leather, faux leather, and cork sheets.
I also show how to cut strands of chains to dangle on the diy leather earrings.
Using jump rings is pretty easy and I'll show how to open and close jump rings to make leather earrings and to hold chains.
I include tips & tricks for using Hobby Lobby faux leather. I use strong grip transfer tape to get good hold on the Hobby Lobby faux leather ribbon. I also use heat n bond to glue two earrings components back to back.

My maker seems to cut in a way that tears the white side of the heat and bond and then drags the white and messes up my cut. Do you know how to stop that?

I have been using contact paper on my mats for years. I only bought new mats a few months ago because I moved and couldn't find mine. I still have most of the ones I got when I got my cricut 5-6 years ago. I usually just cut a 12x12 sheet of clear contact paper (that way I can still see the grid on the mat, not everyone will care about that, but I find it helpful). I see how it kept your mat clean, but if it cuts through the contact paper, which is what usually what happens in my experience (I have never used my cricut for earrings yet, I usually cut paper, or plastic sheets for stencils which I sell on Etsy on my cricut), you will have a bunch of pieces of the contract paper to remove from your mat. For best results, use a mat that isn't brand new. Use a mat that is just sticky enough to hole the contact paper. It will eventually lose most of the adhesive, so when that happens, make sure your mat is as clean as possible. I use masking tape to completely cover all the edges outside the grid area. Then I spray with an adhesive spray that stays tacky, like a stencil adhesive spray or "easy tack" by krylon. Another tip is to replace contact sheet often, like after each cut or after a few cuts. Otherwise you will end up with a million little pieces of contact paper to remove because it will make new cuts every time you do a different design. I usually make earrings with my manual die cutter, I have a lot of steel rule dies that make great earrings. It's a lot less work and less mess to clean.

A great video. Did you use two different size jump rings or are the two jump rings on each ear ring the same size? and what size jump rings did you use? Thank you for showing how to use the heat n bond. I bought some and I was using it wrong. Thank you!

Hi. So glad they're helpful. I believe this is still a current style. At my Hobby Lobby, they sell out of the first few days when the sale starts. I hope you can find it.

I'm wondering if you have ever used a hair straightener for pressing your pieces together? I have done it before with a cheap hair straightener I bought just for that purpose.

Can’t the chain slide out? I’m trying to do it and it seems it could

The chain actually goes onto the jump ring so once the jump ring closes, the chain won't fall out.
