I made my way through the crowd to Dimebag's side and the guitar amps were so loud I was like "nope....not staying here" and made my way back to the center....lol.
@Johnny Mack are you remedial? Phil is the reason they became what they were. Before that they were a glam band. Dimebag was Diamond Darrell, and Rex was Rex Rocker. When they recruited Phil, he turned them in the direction that they were wanting to go, and what they were to become.
I spent time with Dime in Cincinnati before and after the show. It was the early 90s. He was the most humble and kind person you could ever meet. He said some great things to me. He called me brother. Thanks for sharing his music. This is his greatest live solo ever. Over 1million people in that crowd. God bless The Abbott Brothers.
Man, he made you feel like one of the group, He was the best...there was no arrogance in him... If you was with him, in his opinion that's right where you needed to be. He went out of his way to make sure everyone was laughing and having the best time...
I spent time with Dime Rex & Vinny in Asbury park NJ in 98’ i believe, and they where 3 of the most humbled nicest people ive ever met. They made it a point to thank me and my friends for our support. Then right before we went into the venue, Phil came by, boy was he grumpy in his heroin days.. RIP Big Vin & Dime.
Those big squeals Dime does on his guitar are very hard to do. Within a second you have to dump the whammy bar, hit a harmonic note, then bring the whammy bar back up and pull it back to make the harmonic squeal. It takes incredible skill and timing to do that, and Dime was the absolute master of the technique.
Honestly, it really isn't that hard. The BIGGEST thing is you CANNOT have a cheap tremolo. Like you need an ORIGINAL floyd rose from Germany. Not Japan. Otherwise it'll go WAYY put of tune, and this weird considering Dime played in quarter tunings. In between flats and standards

I saw them with Anthrax and Megadeath, it was in Texas and Megadeath was the lead band. Pantera blew them away, I remember that so well, it’s why I made that statement.
Not only a band from my home state but a band from my hometown. Was lucky enough to have seen them live many many times from small clubs to the starplex.

That is all Dime did my man... He KILLED it. He had a beautiful soul and a heart the size of Texas. And when he put a guitar on... IT WAS ON ! ! ! He became something else. I was lucky enough to see PanterA 3 times in my teens and early 20's. The first show I saw I was 16 years old in 1996 and it was TGSTK tour. And that album is one of the most foul, brutally aggressive records to date, so of course the pit was just so out of control. Me and my crew of 10 boys I'd grown up with since 4 years old were in the pit just dominating it. One of my bros brought this chick to the show and he had stole her from this other dude she lived by, and so when this dude and his crew came into the pit, it was fuckin on! Those dudes got their asses beat because back then my crew was like a single person almost, we all belonged to each other and would die for one another, a bond thats still there today. I remember during the song War Nerve this dude in the other crew had a bull ring piercing through his nose and during the fight one of my bros ripped it out and after that he only had 1 nostril. One of my other buddies had teeth marks in his boots from kicking in faces. We left with battle scars and bruises too, but we still won! I've seen just about any Metal band worth a shit and I can tell you that NO ONE can or could perform and put on the most face melting, intense and brutal live show ever. The other 2 times i saw the band live, no fights like that happened but the shows were just as intense as the 1st! It also sticks out in my mind Dimes confederate flag guitar that's waving. Such a cool ass guitar! He was wearing a black and green Washburn Monster guitars shirt! I just really remember that. I love this band for the helping to forge the bond me and my brothers still have today. I firmly believe that if it wasnt for this band and like minded Metal, the bond we have wouldn't be half as strong as it is! My point is to tell you a small story cuz you said you wanted to hear them and for me to re-live a moment where I was most proud of my family! Hope you enjoyed it, and the haters who will say I'm full of shit, FOAD! STRONGER THAN ALL FOREVER!

I was at the show in mexico when they opened for metallica. As soon as they started chairs started flying and people jumped the barricades. After pantera the place looked like a warzone, it was awesome

RIP Mr. Dimebag Darrell and Vinny Paul. They were influencers in their own regard. Dimebag was the Hendrix/Van Halen of that generation. Vinny was just a heavy hitter on the kit. Their stuff was simple but so well executed every time. He changed how the guitar was played. It was nasty to hear the riffs that he wrote with his brother on drums. \m/

Lots of people have said the same thing about Metallica's energy, but pantera, dime majorly, was the burning heart of that band. It took phil until it was too late to figure that out fully. I still weep on a weekly basis, sometimes physically, but mostly mentally, over Dimes passing. He was a part of my life from the age of 14 to age 37 (present) It's like losing a family member, except sometimes worse, because sometimes the reason you are LISTENING to them, is to GET AWAY from your family members, that's when it's the toughest, is when the band is all you had.
I was fortunate enough to see Pantera live 5 times while they were still around. The absolute most energetic shows I've ever been to. The band and the audience just fed off of each other like nothing I'd seen before or since. I got bruised and bloodied and I loved every last minute of it!
I saw Pantera at Ozzfest 2000. At the time I wasnt a fan of them. Well after hearing them and,seeing the power and aggression from that band I was hooked. I promptly went home and called my brother to tell him he fucked up by not going to the show. Ozzy was pretty good but The Kings of Metal Pantera were on another level.
Testament is one of my "personal big 4", and they are so damn good.. but to call them the most underrated thrash band??? :D They're technically around the size of Anthrax, and certainly held in higher regard by (real) thrash fans. Have you never heard of Kreator, Sepultura (1989-1991), Vio-Lence, Forbidden, Obliveon, Hexenhaus etc.? All of them are more underrated than Testament imo.
Love seeing so many reactors discovering the magic that is Pantera. Dime was truly an amazing man and friend to everyone of us blessed enough to cross his path. Vinnie was all heart as well....No band gave more deeply of themselves to their supporters. When Dime was murdered, music forever changed. Also, this festival in Russia was a truly historical because this music and culture were a huge no-no there. It was very difficult show for the guys tho because they had a front row seat to seeing these people being beaten by the 'authorities' in the crowd simply because the audience was acting like the audience at any metal show... banging their heads, moshing, etc.... Security took it as violence and were beating them with their rubber clubs. I asked them about the experience a few years later and they said it was a true exercise in restraint to not stop the songs and go defend the ones being beaten. But they knew their own safety was iffy given WHERE they were..... and I believe their words because I personally witnessed Phil stop a song, more than once, to go after security folks for roughing up audience members here in the U.S.
Dime was murdered and it's a damn shame for the whole metal community. He fired up those new ingenious riffs like a machine gun. He was a bottomless bucket of metal epicness. The band was in deep turmoil way before the killing of Darrel Abbott. None the less as a long time fan I always liked to think that they could have worked it out had Darrel lived. I never got to see Pantera live, but his influence in metalhead riddled Finland is huge. I was about 12 when Darrell Abbott was shot on stage. Next day, our small town school in Finland held a 2 minutes of silence for Darrell Abbott... School that teaches 7-12 years old.
Was almost there. Was on the way to the show and had to turn around to go into work. Biggest regret I have to this day. Always wondered if there was something I could have done had I gone. That shit still haunts me.
I live a few hours away in Kent, Next summer I am taking a trip on my bike to the Alrosa then down to Vist their dad's studio in Tenn, them to texas to visit all of the Pantera and SRV landmarks, then Florida to visit the Dean HQ and go to bike week

I've got some Pantera stories for you. :) I live in Dallas, which is where these guys were born and raised, and they were huge here in the 90s. In 1999, the year the Dallas Stars won the Stanley Cup, they made a Stars war anthem that was played at each game and on all commercials for Stars games. You should find that song actually. It's very similar to Walk, but I digress. I was a huge Stars fan and watched every game that year...and that's over 80. When the Stars won, a parade through downtown was setup for the team and Pantera had their own float. They came floating through downtown with amps blaring .. and they were just as popular as the players, if not more so. A few years later, or maybe it was before, Pantera had a big comeback concert at Reunion Arena.... which is where the Stars and Mavs played. There was a Mavericks game before the concert so chairs were setup on top of the basketball court floor....bad idea for such a rowdy band in their hometown. Pretty early on people started pulling up the sections of wood flooring. Since there was a Stars game the next night, there was ice under the wood! People were body surfing the planks across the crowd with people on top of them. Meanwhile the crowd is slipping around on the ice and throwing chairs around. It quickly got out of hand and the police came in and tried to shut it down and it turned into a near riot. It was insane.... can't imagine another concert ever matching it. :)
It was great to see you smile and laugh over dimes killer guitar playing. I remember my first time hearing him play and thought what the fuck is going on! He was one of the last real metal players left. One of the last guitar heroes Rip dime. He was good enough that Eddie van Halen sent him away at his funeral with one of his guitars.
Man, I happy as shit that you enjoy Pantera....I can't hardly watch it because I'm choked up and in the verge to tears. Pantera was the soundtrack of my youth, Dime was amazing and a hell of a great person. I miss him and Vin sooo much. Their live shows were the best, they loved performing, they were so grateful to be in the position to make music and entertain for their livelihood. Fuck yeah man, Get'cha Pull of more Pantera...crank it, it would've made Dime & Vin happy to know you like what they did.
I got to meet and get autographs from Dime , Vinnie, and Rex backstage in Seattle . Blessed I got to see them 4 times and they absolutely destroyed . Forever stronger than all.
Been to about 100 shows so far in my life. Pantera has still been the best show ever (either in 2000 or 2001 saw them in Orlando, FL) and still my favorite band hands down. RIP Dime and Vin.
I was very fortunate to have seen Pantera 3 times in my life. The very last time I saw them was at the Extreme Steel Tour with Pantera/Slayer/Static-X/Skrape/Morbid Angel at the Tacoma Dome back in 2001! Before Pantera and Slayer came on stage, fans would jump 10-15 feet from the bleachers to the floor and bum rush past security to get to the pit! Fans were obviously jacked and pitted it up like crazy, but even more so when Pantera played “I’ll Cast a Shadow!” The entire floor was one big gigantic pit, it was insane!! Still to this day, it’s hands down the best show I’ve ever seen!
I saw Pantera with White Zombie back in '96...best show I've ever been to by far. It's like in addition to sound they have raw energy blasting out of the speakers energizing the crowd. People moshing and headbanging the entire set...it's an insane but awesome experience that my words can't really describe.
omg i was 14 yrs old when I saw my first of many Pantera show ....extremely lucky to have seen them here in S.A. TX. I also was lucky enough to see Dimebag on Oct 2004 with Damageplan...never ever would have thought it would be the last. RIP Dime & Vinnie.

Every black American should listen to Pantera...why ? Because Pantera is Spanish for "Panther". God,I miss Dime & Vinnie ! 😥 These were magical times from 1990-96. It was either 2Pac or Pantera in high school ?! Even Pantera metalheads were listening to Pac. But this Pantera movement was huge & their shows were unbelievably huge & amazing. The whole crowd would mosh. It was like a giant tornado of bodies & if you got knocked down. There was always another brother there to pick you up !
Craziest, best live performances EVER! Went to see them at Ozzfest '96 and they broke out 5 Minutes Alone. Absolute monster pit....kids, women, older folks,....all were throwing hands! I will never forget it!
I saw them live at on the Vulgar Display of Power tour in 1992 at the Shrine auditorium in Los Angels. To this day I’ve never heard a band sound so much like their studio sound than Pantera. I am convinced that why is because the Vinny and Dime are brothers. That give them a special connection and when they are playing it’s just an amazing thing to see live. Could you imagine having to play after them.

Been to 21 Pantera concerts from 94-99 Nobody put on a show like Pantera. Cool side note (Phil is a huge boxing fan and if you look closely at the shirt he has on under his flannel you will notice he is wearing a Tyson vs Hollyfield shirt from the fight that never happened because Tyson was sent to prison.)

I have gotten the chance to see Pantera live three times. I've seen other metal shows but none of them have ever compared to the energy to Dimebag, Vinnie, Phil and Rex put on. At one of the show's my friend was crowd surfing got grabbed by the crotch and the throat by a security guard. Phil stop singing mid song threatened The Bouncer and told him if he ever did something like that again that he was going down there himself and beating him down. To this day still the best metal band I've ever heard
I saw Pantera supporting Megadeth in 1992 and I hadn't really heard of them or listened to much of their stuff then, but after the show, I became a fan. It was a phenomonal concert and I was lucky enough to meet Phil, Dimebag and Rex before the show and get autographs. I met the 2 Dave's and Marty from Megadeth and got their autographs as well. This was back when all you had to do was hang around the back of the concert hall to meet bands. I've still got my 'Far Beyond Driven' signed album cover as well!
I saw pantera in "98, with faith no More in kansas City. Ran into a friend in the parking lot selling pipes, he usually went to phish shows, but was at a Pantera show, to my surprise. That late in their careers, Pantera was still heavy as hell. Pretty sure it was 98 or 99. You are aware what happend to Dimebag on stage with Damageplan right? Check it out if not- great post.
I got to see Pantera live in 2000 during the Reinvention the Steel tour. I remember being in my seat close to stage and looking back into the crowed out in the field and multiple bonfires going on with people moshing around them, and security running with fire extinguishers. One of the best concerts I've been to and never to be lived again except through memory. R.I.P Dime and Vinnie

I’ve seen Pantera 5 times. Best story I have was at the Denver Colosseum. During The show they slowly unveiled these giant diamond plate letters spelling PANTERA. The last two songs the letters were shooting giant flames to the beat of the drums. Only to realize Kerry King and Jeff from Slayer walked out on stage and played Cowboys from Hell with them to close the set. It was insane.
Not in the past, not now, nor do I believe in the future will there ever be a band as heavy, aggressive, talented, and such a demanding stage presence as Pantera! I remember being 5yrs old and my dad (who loves all forms of music) brought home the Monsters Of Moscow VHS tape from the video rental store and I'll never forget watching this performance. I was hooked on heavy music and Ozzy Osbourne got me there at that age but this sealed the deal😎 Glad u enjoyed dude and cool reaction vid
97 ozzfest was my first time seeing pantera live and when the first song started someone released 3 ARMY issue smoke bombs…the smoke filled the air like a battlefield and the pit began… I wasn't so much drawn into the pit because it just exploded around me, sheer pandemonium.. one of my best experiences at a concert!
Best crowd control is in Metallica - my friend of misery and creeping death Moscow. Imo getting the crowd to do sing - harmonise is badass af, just like het
I remember when cowboys fr hell came out, I was a sophomore in high school. From that point on Pantera has been my favorite band of all time. Middle age with fond memories of this beast of a band!!!
When my dad was in the marines he had alot of pent up anger and would let it out by going to pantera concerts and kicking people in the shins with his steel tip boots HA!
Used to watch Pantera before they broke out, they played Shreveport a lot, then worked security at several shows after CFH, my instructions from the band "Let em have fun, just short of killing themselves" and had a few dinners with them, like being in a fine restaurant with a bunch of cavemen. But nothing topped the partying, went through liquor women and like tissue paper. Thanks for the amazing memories, R.I.P. Dime and Vinnie.

i saw pantera in new jersey stadium during the ozzfest it was almost 20 years ago. and they were headlining the tour with ozzy and few other big bands. now pantera was the last to hit the stage at the end of a full day and during intermission you just see the crew assembling this wall of apms, just stacking em. And then its dark and dime comes out and just starts wailing with vinnie on primal concrete sledge and i swear man it felt like an artilery of tanks was coming your way ! you could hear them in the tri state area ( felt like it )
I was lucky enough to see Pantera and Sepultura years ago in Dallas. I didn't have floor tickets but when I saw what was happening down there I had to sneak in. It wasn't hard, security was very lax. By the time Pantera started there were three huge pits spinning like a buzz saw. A couple of decent sized fires were started somehow. Yes, piles of discarded clothing and trash were set ablaze. Even with all the chaos ppl still had the sense to help those who had fallen or needed assistance. Best show of my life.

I saw them with Anthrax and Megadeath, it was in Texas and Megadeath was the lead band. Pantera blew them away, I remember that so well, it’s why I made that statement.
Not only a band from my home state but a band from my hometown. Was lucky enough to have seen them live many many times from small clubs to the starplex.
I remember seeing them at Joe's garage and the basement. Joe's garage would have pieces of the ceiling falling off sometimes.

Pantera was a very accessible band. They would come hang out at the Basement and party. Everyone has a Pantera story
I was lucky enough to see PanterA 3 times in my teens and early 20's. The first show I saw I was 16 years old in 1996 and it was TGSTK tour. And that album is one of the most foul, brutally aggressive records to date, so of course the pit was just so out of control. Me and my crew of 10 boys I'd grown up with since 4 years old were in the pit just dominating it. One of my bros brought this chick to the show and he had stole her from this other dude she lived by, and so when this dude and his crew came into the pit, it was fuckin on! Those dudes got their asses beat because back then my crew was like a single person almost, we all belonged to each other and would die for one another, a bond thats still there today. I remember during the song War Nerve this dude in the other crew had a bull ring piercing through his nose and during the fight one of my bros ripped it out and after that he only had 1 nostril. One of my other buddies had teeth marks in his boots from kicking in faces. We left with battle scars and bruises too, but we still won! I've seen just about any Metal band worth a shit and I can tell you that NO ONE can or could perform and put on the most face melting, intense and brutal live show ever. The other 2 times i saw the band live, no fights like that happened but the shows were just as intense as the 1st! It also sticks out in my mind Dimes confederate flag guitar that's waving. Such a cool ass guitar! He was wearing a black and green Washburn Monster guitars shirt! I just really remember that. I love this band for the helping to forge the bond me and my brothers still have today. I firmly believe that if it wasnt for this band and like minded Metal, the bond we have wouldn't be half as strong as it is! My point is to tell you a small story cuz you said you wanted to hear them and for me to re-live a moment where I was most proud of my family! Hope you enjoyed it, and the haters who will say I'm full of shit, FOAD! STRONGER THAN ALL FOREVER!
I saw them in '93 and it was one of the best concert experiences of my life. (I've been to a lot of metal shows) They were just razor sharp, one of the tightest bands in the history of metal...

I was at the show in mexico when they opened for metallica. As soon as they started chairs started flying and people jumped the barricades. After pantera the place looked like a warzone, it was awesome

RIP Mr. Dimebag Darrell and Vinny Paul. They were influencers in their own regard. Dimebag was the Hendrix/Van Halen of that generation. Vinny was just a heavy hitter on the kit. Their stuff was simple but so well executed every time. He changed how the guitar was played. It was nasty to hear the riffs that he wrote with his brother on drums. \m/

Lots of people have said the same thing about Metallica's energy, but pantera, dime majorly, was the burning heart of that band. It took phil until it was too late to figure that out fully.
I still weep on a weekly basis, sometimes physically, but mostly mentally, over Dimes passing. He was a part of my life from the age of 14 to age 37 (present)
It's like losing a family member, except sometimes worse, because sometimes the reason you are LISTENING to them, is to GET AWAY from your family members, that's when it's the toughest, is when the band is all you had.
I was fortunate enough to see Pantera live 5 times while they were still around. The absolute most energetic shows I've ever been to. The band and the audience just fed off of each other like nothing I'd seen before or since. I got bruised and bloodied and I loved every last minute of it!
I saw Pantera at Ozzfest 2000. At the time I wasnt a fan of them. Well after hearing them and,seeing the power and aggression from that band I was hooked. I promptly went home and called my brother to tell him he fucked up by not going to the show. Ozzy was pretty good but The Kings of Metal Pantera were on another level.
Get you some Testament man. The MOST underrated thrash band. Maybe try some Overkill or Annihilator as well. Peace from Australia.

They're technically around the size of Anthrax, and certainly held in higher regard by (real) thrash fans. Have you never heard of Kreator, Sepultura (1989-1991), Vio-Lence, Forbidden, Obliveon, Hexenhaus etc.? All of them are more underrated than Testament imo.

Dime was truly an amazing man and friend to everyone of us blessed enough to cross his path. Vinnie was all heart as well....No band gave more deeply of themselves to their supporters. When Dime was murdered, music forever changed.
Also, this festival in Russia was a truly historical because this music and culture were a huge no-no there. It was very difficult show for the guys tho because they had a front row seat to seeing these people being beaten by the 'authorities' in the crowd simply because the audience was acting like the audience at any metal show... banging their heads, moshing, etc.... Security took it as violence and were beating them with their rubber clubs.
I asked them about the experience a few years later and they said it was a true exercise in restraint to not stop the songs and go defend the ones being beaten. But they knew their own safety was iffy given WHERE they were..... and I believe their words because I personally witnessed Phil stop a song, more than once, to go after security folks for roughing up audience members here in the U.S.
Dime was murdered and it's a damn shame for the whole metal community. He fired up those new ingenious riffs like a machine gun. He was a bottomless bucket of metal epicness. The band was in deep turmoil way before the killing of Darrel Abbott. None the less as a long time fan I always liked to think that they could have worked it out had Darrel lived. I never got to see Pantera live, but his influence in metalhead riddled Finland is huge. I was about 12 when Darrell Abbott was shot on stage. Next day, our small town school in Finland held a 2 minutes of silence for Darrell Abbott... School that teaches 7-12 years old.

I've got some Pantera stories for you. :)
I live in Dallas, which is where these guys were born and raised, and they were huge here in the 90s. In 1999, the year the Dallas Stars won the Stanley Cup, they made a Stars war anthem that was played at each game and on all commercials for Stars games. You should find that song actually. It's very similar to Walk, but I digress. I was a huge Stars fan and watched every game that year...and that's over 80. When the Stars won, a parade through downtown was setup for the team and Pantera had their own float. They came floating through downtown with amps blaring .. and they were just as popular as the players, if not more so.
A few years later, or maybe it was before, Pantera had a big comeback concert at Reunion Arena.... which is where the Stars and Mavs played. There was a Mavericks game before the concert so chairs were setup on top of the basketball court floor....bad idea for such a rowdy band in their hometown. Pretty early on people started pulling up the sections of wood flooring. Since there was a Stars game the next night, there was ice under the wood! People were body surfing the planks across the crowd with people on top of them. Meanwhile the crowd is slipping around on the ice and throwing chairs around.
It quickly got out of hand and the police came in and tried to shut it down and it turned into a near riot. It was insane.... can't imagine another concert ever matching it. :)
I feel honoured to have seen Pantera as my first metal concert back in '94.

It was great to see you smile and laugh over dimes killer guitar playing. I remember my first time hearing him play and thought what the fuck is going on! He was one of the last real metal players left. One of the last guitar heroes Rip dime. He was good enough that Eddie van Halen sent him away at his funeral with one of his guitars.

Been to about 100 shows so far in my life. Pantera has still been the best show ever (either in 2000 or 2001 saw them in Orlando, FL) and still my favorite band hands down. RIP Dime and Vin.
I was very fortunate to have seen Pantera 3 times in my life. The very last time I saw them was at the Extreme Steel Tour with Pantera/Slayer/Static-X/Skrape/Morbid Angel at the Tacoma Dome back in 2001! Before Pantera and Slayer came on stage, fans would jump 10-15 feet from the bleachers to the floor and bum rush past security to get to the pit! Fans were obviously jacked and pitted it up like crazy, but even more so when Pantera played “I’ll Cast a Shadow!” The entire floor was one big gigantic pit, it was insane!! Still to this day, it’s hands down the best show I’ve ever seen!

I saw Pantera with White Zombie back in '96...best show I've ever been to by far. It's like in addition to sound they have raw energy blasting out of the speakers energizing the crowd. People moshing and headbanging the entire set...it's an insane but awesome experience that my words can't really describe.

I saw them live at on the Vulgar Display of Power tour in 1992 at the Shrine auditorium in Los Angels. To this day I’ve never heard a band sound so much like their studio sound than Pantera. I am convinced that why is because the Vinny and Dime are brothers. That give them a special connection and when they are playing it’s just an amazing thing to see live.

Cool side note (Phil is a huge boxing fan and if you look closely at the shirt he has on under his flannel you will notice he is wearing a Tyson vs Hollyfield shirt from the fight that never happened because Tyson was sent to prison.)

I have gotten the chance to see Pantera live three times. I've seen other metal shows but none of them have ever compared to the energy to Dimebag, Vinnie, Phil and Rex put on. At one of the show's my friend was crowd surfing got grabbed by the crotch and the throat by a security guard. Phil stop singing mid song threatened The Bouncer and told him if he ever did something like that again that he was going down there himself and beating him down. To this day still the best metal band I've ever heard
I saw Pantera supporting Megadeth in 1992 and I hadn't really heard of them or listened to much of their stuff then, but after the show, I became a fan. It was a phenomonal concert and I was lucky enough to meet Phil, Dimebag and Rex before the show and get autographs. I met the 2 Dave's and Marty from Megadeth and got their autographs as well. This was back when all you had to do was hang around the back of the concert hall to meet bands. I've still got my 'Far Beyond Driven' signed album cover as well!

pipes, he usually went to phish shows, but was at a Pantera show, to my surprise. That late in their careers, Pantera was still heavy as hell. Pretty sure it was 98 or 99.

I got to see Pantera live in 2000 during the Reinvention the Steel tour. I remember being in my seat close to stage and looking back into the crowed out in the field and multiple bonfires going on with people moshing around them, and security running with fire extinguishers. One of the best concerts I've been to and never to be lived again except through memory. R.I.P Dime and Vinnie

I’ve seen Pantera 5 times. Best story I have was at the Denver Colosseum. During The show they slowly unveiled these giant diamond plate letters spelling PANTERA. The last two songs the letters were shooting giant flames to the beat of the drums. Only to realize Kerry King and Jeff from Slayer walked out on stage and played Cowboys from Hell with them to close the set. It was insane.

I remember being 5yrs old and my dad (who loves all forms of music) brought home the Monsters Of Moscow VHS tape from the video rental store and I'll never forget watching this performance. 97 ozzfest was my first time seeing pantera live and when the first song started someone released 3 ARMY issue smoke bombs…the smoke filled the air like a battlefield and the pit began… I wasn't so much drawn into the pit because it just exploded around me, sheer pandemonium.. one of my best experiences at a concert!

Used to watch Pantera before they broke out, they played Shreveport a lot, then worked security at several shows after CFH, my instructions from the band "Let em have fun, just short of killing themselves" and had a few dinners with them, like being in a fine restaurant with a bunch of cavemen. But nothing topped the partying, went through liquor women and like tissue paper. Thanks for the amazing memories, R.I.P. Dime and Vinnie.

i saw pantera in new jersey stadium during the ozzfest it was almost 20 years ago. and they were headlining the tour with ozzy and few other big bands. now pantera was the last to hit the stage at the end of a full day and during intermission you just see the crew assembling this wall of apms, just stacking em. And then its dark and dime comes out and just starts wailing with vinnie on primal concrete sledge and i swear man it felt like an artilery of tanks was coming your way ! you could hear them in the tri state area ( felt like it )
I was lucky enough to see Pantera and Sepultura years ago in Dallas. I didn't have floor tickets but when I saw what was happening down there I had to sneak in. It wasn't hard, security was very lax. By the time Pantera started there were three huge pits spinning like a buzz saw. A couple of decent sized fires were started somehow. Yes, piles of discarded clothing and trash were set ablaze. Phil Anselmo and the Ilegals are doing a Pantera tribute on Slayer's Last Campaign pretty soon... I saw Slayer just a couple of months ago!!! Damn! Crazy live shows and you should react to The Dillinger Escape Plan's live shows.. these guys were off the chart CRAZY!!
