First off good review and straight to the point. I Just purchased a DS 8.2 Hybrid Trek from my local bike shop and have to say it's the nicest bike I have ever owned. I was looking for a bike to take on the trail but also ride in town so this was an easy choice once I found it. Also didn't want to break the bank too much. The trigger shifters, light weight design and tires sold me on it. Looking forward to riding it for a long time to come.
Thanks for your review. I have an 8.2 as well, and I really like it. It is an excellent blend of both road and mountain bike characteristics. Highly recommended.
Lol it doesn't matter the price of the bike here... They'll take it just ride faster to the liquor store. Whether it be a $70 Walmart bike or a $670 trek ds 8.3. I carry three locks for it. They might have the tools for one or even two but the hell they'll also have one for the 1inch thick steel one. And if they do, they won't through before I'm done shopping or go out for rounds at work lol it really is a great bike. So comfy and I'm a big person. BIG as in over 300. So comfy and tires are great. No pressure flats or random flats from inner city debris like glass metal and needles. Love it.
I have an 8.3 and have ridden with the front fork locked and unlocked in a number of different situations. The only situation that locking the front forks seems to make a difference is road riding at a faster pace. The bike is more predictable and seems to be more efficient as far as speed with the forks locked. The disc brakes are a step up but we had a heck of a time getting the front brake to stay adjusted. If you adjust it properly at 70 degrees it starts dragging when the temperature gets over 90 degrees. Finally realized what was going on and added some more clearance between the pad and disc and have not had anymore problems with brake drag. The tires that came on it did not seem to have enough side bite when you tire to corner on loose sand or gravel. Switched to some Continentals and have been happy. Would strongly recommend any 8.2 or 8.3 as a good do everything kind of bike for commuting or riding dirt roads.
