It's not differences between generations, most of the comparisons you make are adults versus teens
Tasos Lechoudis you nailed it. When gen z needs to get a job, we will see what happens hehehe
I know, right? These differences just highlight the changes that occur as you get older. Now I recognize that there are people of Gen Z who are adults with jobs. They are punching the clock and earning a living. But even the oldest of Gen Z aren't even 30 yet.
I also think half of the stuff is BS as it is - they can multitask - watching tv and chatting lol :D dude in the 50s people watch tv and did the dishes whats so brave about it.
Or remember back in 2005 when people would go together to the shopping mall to buy stuff while sharing opinions - it the goddamn same thing - just the medium is changed due to the internet.
Also, if you are 15-20 and you are pessimistic - tough life mate.
That’s literally what generations are
And in time everything this video attributes to Millennials will be true about Gen Z, and everything they're saying about Gen Z will be true about the next generation. This video acts like these qualities are exclusive to the generation they're talking about, but it's not.
Gen Z is good at multi-tasking because they're in their early twenties, not because there is something special about their generation.
Most of gen z isn't even out of school yet. You can't define a generation who are still finding themselves and haven't fully developed.
I have my degree already, and kids born in 1997, 98, and soon 99 who are generation Z are in their 20s.

I'm a millennial working in a high school full of gen z and this is... not 100% accurate. The biggest difference between millennials and gen z is that gen z grew up around technology and social media a heck of a lot more than millennials. I thought millennials grew up in the early 2000’s and generation z were born after 2010
My mom doesn't believe she is a millennial and I think it's funny
that's because some people (especially those born in the 90s) aren't sure if they belong in the group or not. I've searched countless sources online and people kept swinging the cut-off year to be considered a millennial is it until the 1990s or until the 2000s.
That's because adults born in the early 80's refuse to be lumped in with a group of people who act like dip shits with no work ethic.
I'm a Millennial and I'm blown away by how cool and confident so much of Gen Z is. When I was 15 I could barely put an outfit together and my self-esteem was in the dumpster. They are also a lot more socially aware at a younger age surely due to the internet. I think Millennials shouldn't fall into the cycle of the older generation hating the next. We can learn a lot from them and I think despite some of them doing stupid things like the Tidepods they have a good head on their shoulders.

As a millennial, this is how I see the differences between us and Gen Z. Millennials are the disillusioned and fatalist generation. We were raised in a time of hope and given instructions how to reach that dream, then when we did the things, everything collapsed. We were called entitled and should be grateful to have any job, so we did. We took on 2-3 jobs just to scrap by. We banded together, shared what we had, and accepted that everything was fleeting, so try to find small joys in the moment. Which is why we're apparently killing every market out there. We're patient and understanding, because we look at the person across from us and see ourselves-- sure that the waiter, the cashier, the uber driver, etc aren't where they expected to be either.
Gen Z, however, was born in this shit storm, so I see them as the realist generation. They look at how things are and know if they don't do anything, the shit storm is only going to get worse. They're more tolerant of what makes everyone different, supportive of new ideas no mater where they come from, and give a big "fuck you" to anyone that tells them they're too young to do/know anything about the real world. They look at the raging debt millennials run around with, see how well the "normal" route worked for us, so look at a new path for solutions. They're accused of the instant gratification generation, but really, they're the "why wait?" generation. If you have a good idea, an amazing opportunity, a chance to make change, then do it!
Whereas millenials see failure as affirmation that everything is horrible and nothing will ever change, I see Gen Z pick themselves up, dust themselves off, and go, "Well, that didn't work. Let's try something else." What this video described as impatience among the Gen Z when something doesn't work, I see as a generation that doesn't accept that it's just the way things are. If it's broken, then fucking fix it!
Bottom line, both our generations get shit on and told we're the problem. That we're entitled and selfish, but we're neither. We're just a bunch of people trying to figure out how to survive in this world that was created for us.
heather wills H E L L Y E A H
It is easy to be optimistic in a bad environment when you're still a child or very young adult. Life is ahead you. You have plenty of time to screw up, start back over and figure things out until you get it right. There is no time constraint and eventually things get better. When you're older, you don't have these privileges and tend to get caught up in the present.
You put too much faith in Gen Z, they are the next boomers, entitled and demanding. Live off others' achievements.
heather wills amen! Its like millenials are the bridge between a world baby boomers knew and the future that gen z accurately sees. We were literally raised with expired principles for success yet curiously perceived as failures meanwhile gen z is looking at our struggles and going 'fuck that dated advice, im going with what works'
YESSSSSSSSSSSS Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know much about Gen Z, but the millenial part at least is soooooooooo true. And I hope you're right about Gen Z. We need someone to actually get shit done, and stop listening to the advice to wait and do as you're told. We were way too trusting and obedient, and we got screwed big time. I want to see a generation of rebels who can tell when someone's trying to defraud them and won't stand for it. We're in a shoddy position to make change; struggling under our debts to get by. I hope Gen Z can do better, for everyone's benefit, because they still have the time and resources to try to!
I just hope they don't end up being rude to us like all the other generations if they do find success. It sucks being told you're the problem and you're entitled when all you want to do is be able to pay your rent and eat without going further into debt. I'd... also like a house and comfortable middle class, debt-free life someday soon, but I suppose that would make me selfish. But really, what are those other generations mad at us for? For being poor right now? Or for daring to still have hope for our lives despite our terrible start? I'm not sure how we can survive without the idea that we might really get what we were promised some day. I think all any of us want is to lie down one day in a comfortable home, calm in the knowledge that we will be able to pay all our bills and no longer have debts looming over our heads.

James Whitman nah that’s the millennials thing 😂😂
Kayjaysdns nah, the whole 2012 tumblr safespace uwu thing was a toxic mixture of the worst people from both gen x and z
mimimomomama mi nah bro not true I’m gen Z currently 19 yo and in 2012 I was 12/13 lol people that age definitely did not impose those stupid safe space PC ideologies. And before you say it yes I do understand that gen z starts at about 1995 and people born in that year during 2012 were 19 but I disregard them as many of their peers and fellow college goers that were older were millennials with those ideas in which part indoctrinated the gen z coming up in those universities and tumblr pages. Somewhere along the way the younger side of the gen z age groups have seen the outcome of this and realized (for the most part as there are always outliers) how ridiculous and damaging to society that way of thinking/living is. The majority of people I grew up with and the ages younger than me seem to be on the same page when it comes to ridiculing those retarded ideologies. So yes gen z technically was a part of the beginning of the safe space culture to an extent but the millennials were the true orchestraters so in my opinion those gen z PC followers are lumped in with the millennials when it comes to ideology. I am hopeful for the future as a lot of people my age and younger that I know and observe online are nowhere near as sensitive as the group previously stated and yes I realize that is anecdotal but it’s the only information I have without actually surveying the populous lol
Millennials, like all other generations, are not scientific/historical categories. Just popularized buzz words. This video is completely based on subjectivity.
Yes but those terms exist because we wanted some way to discuss the way different age groups in a society grow up in different environments and as a result have certain attitudes or lifestyles that set them apart from the other age groups. Just because they can't be nailed down scientifically doesn't mean they aren't real or don't have meaning.
"All words are made up" -- Pirate Angel
Yeah I agree, they are comparing people that are in different age groups like they are "equals" in terms of that they both have had enough time out in the world.
I was born in 1999. But I was raised as a Millennial. We didn't have internet or cellphones, and still had a fat tv until 2015. My school I went to was all pencils and paper. Didn't even get a cellphone until I was 18.
Wow really you had an old TV that long? Interesting. I finally had a modern flat screen TV in 2010 and I thought that was late!
well you are probably the only one in your gen.. no internet until 2015? ya ok im sure
Is gen Z really defined by living exclusively on the new tech? The smart phone was an end of 2000’s thing while Gen Z started a decade or more before
Before you judge our generation, remember who raised it.

Peteto Chibs Bro it was a joke I was just kidding but there is truth into it that’s why it’s funny but our parents have Control over shaping us into what they want in a kid how do you think Asian people continue the culture of becoming doctors and being successful i’m not completely blaming the parents fault but it is partly why if you don’t push her kids to do more than they won’t unless they just naturally have that ability to push themselves but nine out of 10 kids nowadays will not have that in them and it’s because they don’t have to parents give kids the Silverspoon all the time that’s just how it is when they had to work at 14 and drop out of school most likely I know this because my mom does this to me and she says it every day

I respect your opinion. As an Elder Z, I am just younger than Millennials by a year. Most people do think that Millennials are people who were born from 1st January 1981-31st December 1996. Because that is how Pew Research Centre defined it. And also, they defined it based on remembering 9/11. Yes, I was 3 years and 8 months And 11-12 days old when it occurred. Yes, as an elder Gen Z. As a Malaysian Chinese Born on 8th December 1997 In Brunei, I disagree that Millennials were born from 1st January 1981 to 31st December 1996. I am younger than all the 1996-born babies by a year.

I just saw this in my Recommendations. All it took for me was the thumbnail. How are they going to define a generation by 14 years for one and 10 for the other? 🤦 Idk what "facts" this person thinks they have, but they might've wanted to start with establishing a coherent timeline. I'm boggled by the number of likes.. People say they want facts, but most just want to agree with what feels good. I'll grant that a generation should not span 20 years, and that 35yo millennials should not be lumped in with 18yos, but let's have some consistency.
"Gen Z is more optimistic about future than millenials."
Yeah, because they are younger. Duh.
Tengericsillag that one surprised me. I understand being optimistic about their own futures because of financial planning and whatnot, but general optimism about the state of the US and the world? That just seems incorrect.

There is no finite definition. Theres an around 8-10 year time span thats a grey area around 1995-2004 where neither really counts.

After googling generation z, I found that this video is a direct rip of a Huffington Post article. Even using the same exact wording in certain sections.
Then they just made the information available to more! There is no such thing as stealing facts since facts are universal.
No Name
no such thing as stealing facts, but there is such things as stealing articles. they're not making it more "public"; they're stealing their work for themselves. the original article might not get recognition for their work.
Little Dreamer That's what happens when you post something online, someone will take it. They chose to post it, so they aren't crying (like toddlers trying to impress a teaching unit) because someone "stole" their "work."
No Name
mkay dude, have you ever heard about plagiarism? yes, someone may always steal your work, but what if someone always steals your food? it happens often, but doesn't make it any less of a crime. if someone stole my artwork, or any of my work in general, I would obviously be angry because I worked on that, not the theive, and they cannot and should not take credit for it. same goes with anything. if an article is stolen, we have every right to complain.
Little Dreamer "Stealing" work isn't the same as stealing food because food is a materialistic object. Also, you say you wouldn't be happy is someone "stole" your work, but honestly, if someone "stole" my work, I would take it as a compliment because that person clearly thinks that the work is good, and would take credit for it.
I think people born in the early '90s (now in late 20s) are kinda the buffer zone between Millennials and Gen Z. Most of the social media and tech that define modern life became popular when we were in high school and college (as opposed to full childhood for Gen Z and full adulthood for Millennials), so we spent our childhoods without smartphones and social media, but none of our adulthoods.
Yeah I think we were the last group of kids to watch Saturday morning cartoons, and as time went by we became teens when social media was starting to boom.
Born in 03 and lived basically a 90s childhood
I think the best distinction is if were financially established before the 2008 recession vs after. A lot of the tropes about younger people- being called "lazy" or "entitled" while working multiple jobs and living in an apartment, trying to be entrepreneurial or making money online, etc. comes down to that
Born in '91. We lived the best of both worlds.

I thought so too
Kennedy Blaq right seemed like Gen Z has just graduated high school/college and just hasn’t realized the world isn’t sunshine and rainbows either.
It appears as if we aren’t really pessimistic or optimistic but kinda in the middle right where reality is.
John Short I actually think it's the opposite. Generation Z is more pessimistic than the previous generation since they don't remember a time before 911
Alba Lopez I think we're more optimistic because we were more desensitized at a younger age and are aware of how bad shit can be. Due to that we have an appreciation for how good we've got it, relatively speaking.
McBubbleslvl900 I see.... So I guess low expectations?
It’s weird being an early gen z-er. I’ve lived long enough to see the birth and rise of smartphones, and saw the birth of social media, but have not lived long enough see the beginning of the internet and the rise of personal computers, and the death of DOS.

lol! what about the generations after us? we will look so dumb compared to them!
Elliana Grant 02 hehehe just kidding lmao
The problem with defining "generations" is that it opens the gate to stereotyping. These stereotypes don't always mirror the truth.
For instance my dad, which is from 2 generations back, has the same "if set brand fails me then I will move on" mentality. While a classmate of mine, who was born in 2000, shows brand loyalty to Apple.
Both my parents are tech savvy dispite being born before 1980 and I've known people, who are technically millennials/gen Z, be completely tech illiterate.
It depends how you're raised and what your interests are, not the loosely defined year range in which you were born.
Hanro50 yah
I studied art in college and university. So many people, even 5-6 years younger than me have absolutely no clue how to even get the printer to work.
Hanro50 right? I might be a gen z kid but judging by everything I've heard I'm practically a millennial other than my age
Hanro50 I know right... it's just a classification to group people together and nothing more. It doesnt make someone more tech savvy or more spoiled than another generation. People seem to be too wrapped up in the stereotypes and hating on other generations. Or saying things such as "I have depression cuz if the baby boomers and gen X!"
If you think about stereotypes as being essentially obsolete and noxious, that is.
But it seems, as almost everybody, you use stereotypes to judge individuals, while it is a group statistic. Making you wrong by default.
But hey, don't mind, it isn't like it was important.
As a gen z in a developed nation, I'd say we are a bunch of youngsters who complain over not getting xboxes while ppl are starving in poverty , I am honestly concerned about humanity's future.......

Yeah, being a Gen-Zer means being optimistic... About depression! Growing up we're told the world is a horrible place so what do we do? We just make the most of it by laughing at it. There's nothing we can do except try live up to the expectations of everyone around us. It sucks.
Yes, we maybe on our phones all day but I'll use it by looking up articles to learn about mental health. Considering I deal with it I also want to help other people like me. I also try to learn about things that school can't teach me. I know people my age doing the same thing. Most of the time we will talk about problems in our world and what we should do to fix it even if we can't. I also use my phone to focus on things I need to do. I will play music when I have an anxiety attack, need to clean my room, or do homework. It helps me focus. I'm glad we have the internet. But it doesn't make school any easier. Once again, stress and expectations from our families and teachers.
Personally I don't like social media. I don't even use it often. I only have Instagram and that's so then I can keep in contact with my friends. And just talk with my internet friends if they got a problem. Kinda like a therapist but for free. I've been looked at by older people who think I'm just like any other rebellious teenager who loves being alone in their room, on my phone all day, listening to music. If I could go out I would. If I could hang out with my friends I would. Literally no one I talk to even likes hanging out with their family because everyone is so judgmental. Unlike us kids and teens who don't give a crap what someone wears, what their sexuality is, or what they like. I'd say most of us are very open-minded people. We only really care if your a b*tch to us or not if I'm being honest. I'd could say so much more but now I realise I've been typing this for over half an hour.
Thanks for reading if you did 😊 Have a great day💜

Being born in the early 90s, as a millennial I def got to see both. I think I truly value tech going from the box phone , to the side kick , then blackberry and finishing college with the iPhone, I understand both sides more.
I don't like this kind of grouping of "generations" it just makes people act tribal (read the comments)
You cannot prevent human beings from acting tribal. It's hardcoded into us. We will always have "the enemy". We will always have "the others".
I would have to slightly disagree. We have the wherewithal to regulate our "tribal" behaviors. Yes, we can be slaves to our emotions, BUT it is our responsibility to use our intellect to regulate ourselves via self-reflection. We can take a more objective look at our "tribal" thoughts and take more appropriate action.
Exactly. There’s no need to make this virtually unfounded distinction amongst people. Generatioism is a goddamn plague. The changes between generations are only relevant because of age differences, not necessarily character. Eventually, people become a lot like their former generation when they age.
Squeaky Deeds Done Soap Clean Oh dude, you have nooo idea. I wish I was basking in ignorance of denying the existence of generations like you guys but it is just too obvious to overlook. Generations, in my strong view at least, will ALWAYS exist. If they truly didn't then tell me why teenagers say in the 60's or 70's were idealistic and experimental as compared to say teenagers in the 30's or 40's teenagers were pragmatic and industrious, and even teens as recently like the 90's or 00's as apathetic and cynical? Tell me please. Tell my why teens in the 60's/70's weren't cynical like in the 90's/00's or industrious like in the 30's/40's??
+Solusist You can stop creating arbitrary differences, because while yes their is a difference in you if you're born at a different date than someone else the distinction between the gens can get really murky around the cut off points and like any other general heuristic grouping method like this it matters more how a person was raised and what their genes say than what their abstract "group" says about them. We should be judging on each other based on individual behavior, history, and genetics but that would probably be too difficult for most people.
