IThanks for watching, if you enjoyed Thrax's villain review check out another one of the 135+ villain reviews I've done! Link in description
The fact that Thrax doesn't have a concrete origin honestly just makes him better, as that's how a LOT of real world viruses are. They're mutated versions of previously existing strains making it difficult to find an exact origin, which is why Thrax is often compared to his namesake Anthrax (although a bacterial infection) and Scarlet Fever, as he's theorized to be a mutation of the two
But personally,if I had to speculate, I think he's literally a bit of both.
In the sense that he's not not a natural virus but rather a bioweapon that was accidentally set loose
I mean think about it, it actually explains a lot:
1. It explains why Thrax carries traits of multiple viruses and/or bacteria but not quite fitting into any of them
2. Most importantly, it explains his personality.
A normal virus doesn't actually want to destroy its host, just the opposite. It wants the host to stay alive as it needs their living cells to propagate itself, getting sick is just the body's reaction to fighting back the infection.
But NOT Thrax.
His only interest is to kill his host as quickly as possible, incubate ,then move on and repeat the process over and over again ad infinitum, consequently becoming a more efficient killer with each new cycle
I think he’s a bioweapon also as just like you said he doesn’t share all the same qualities as viruses do primarily multiplying and infecting multiple hosts gestating inside and growing instead he specifically targets one host at a time killing them only spreading to his next victim after his last but as you said a virus wouldn’t do that bc it needs the host to survive
If I remember, it’s said that he was based on “The Red Death” from Edgar Allan Poe’s “Mask of the Red Death”
He's supposedly a souped up version of Hong Kong chicken flu, which was making the news around the time this movie came out.
Coronavirus is much worse
My dude is definitely coronavirus
The “Careful, I’m contagious” line by him gave me goosebumps
i mean goosebumps in a good way like god dayum he is so fine-

@@meganhaigood4943 IKR- AND THE FACT THAT HE SAID BIG DADDY THRAX ONE TIME- JUST-
UGH-
@@mjserrano32 didn’t he say that as he was choking Jones? 🤨
@@techsupport01134 maybe that’s where the “chOKe mE dADDy” thing came from
Funfact! The surviving germ early in the movie referred to him as "Muerte Roja", which Jones correctly interprets as "Red Death", which is a regional nickname for Anthrax.
How does anthrax kill? Is the way the murray was dying the symptoms of an anthrax attack?
@@themachoechidnaugandarandy7583 I don't believe that the mechanism the disease uses lines up with the movie. He contracted it by eating a hard boiled egg that a monkey stole, which makes me think gastrointestinal anthrax. He almost succumbs to (I think) hyperpyrexia given his temperature was above 106, but I can't seem to find a direct link between Anthrax and Hyperpyrexia.
@@Icyguy5438 Maybe a new strain, which is why he wants to be in the medical books.
@@GiuseppeGaetanoSabatelli That's plausible. Though I always thought he wanted to break the record already in the books.
Or it could be an allusion to the Masque of the Red Death by Edgar Allan Poe. That is all about a disease as well.
This man was SO FINE, they had no right to make him that hot, seriously

“Somebody lay down a towel! It’s gonna be messyyyyy” they KNEW what they were doing when they animated this guy 😂
Thrax has everything.
>Joker-esque nihilistic criminal mastermind that just wants to see the world (Frank) burn, but in record time, because he's done this before
>Badass martial artist with literal finger of death
>SEXY AS HELL.
Agreed. One of those villains that might be questionable if you overanalyze, but a badass execution will make any character shine.
He knows fully well that as a virus you either spread or die.
I wish for a better-written remake tho. The animated bits were so cool and so smooth back then. Wonder how they'd look with today's animations.
They use covid not thrax
@@jacawesomeness9950 a virus with a 1% lethality? The design would be a carebear with the coronavirus picture on its belly.
It would look terrible. Animations have dropped quality for the sake of quantity. They resorted to use animatic methods as the final animation. Far too many autotweens and Adobe AE. It's just lazy. This is prob as good is it's ever gonna look.
It would look bad just like the lion guard
@@SHIMO_EDITZ What the heck is the Lion Guard?
Yeah he may be a basic villain, but he has such a presence on screen. Fishburne really elevated the character
Does it really matter if a character is basic as long as they're likable?

That’s hilarious
Pretty sure he says "Think I'll turn up the hear in here" but thanks...can't get it out of my head now lol.
LOL
LMAO im dead at this youre hilarious
Nooo Thrax don't say the N word
Three words to describe Thrax; cool, cunning, and downright sexy.
Literally every girl who watches this movie is turned on by Thrax. Seriously, what is it that's so sexy about him? Is it the dreadlocks? The voice?
When I was a child this was one of my favorite movies and I thought Laurence Fishborne did a fantastic job with Thrax as he was genuinely disturbing, extremely charismatic and very cunning..
Fishburne also portrayed anti-hero character in another movie like The Matrix, John Wick
My science teacher played this movie and when thrax showed up in the arm pit scene everyone was looking and all the girls when either “oh..😳” or “oh 😏”
I was one of the "oh 😏" girls
Daddy thrax 🙂
@@TrixieTheShark yes 😏
I would probably be the one "oh" guy
I’d let him destroy my immune system any day 😏
This is one of those movies in which the villain is literally the best part. It's such a shame that this movie is so underwhelming as the live-actions parts of it, especially with Bill Murray's character Frank, just ruined it. The animated parts of it were great in their own right, but the live-action ones were horrendous and dragged on for too long, so the animated ones weren't enough to save this from being lame at worst. Even Thrax couldn't save it. It's no wonder why it bombed. It could've been so much better as it had a lot of potential to be such a cool movie. I REALLY wanted to like this. And FYI, this movie will be having it's twenty anniversary this August, believe it or not. Btw, I REALLY want you to talk about John Silver and Scroop from the underrated Disney masterpiece, Treasure Planet. Silver is a morally gray, complex, three-dimensional, and sympathetic alien cyborg pirate who develops a father and son-like relationship with the movie's hero, Jim Hawkins, and has a redemption arc (which is something that you RARELY see in animated Disney movies), and Scroop is such a cruel, sadistic, murderous, bloodthirsty, merciless, sick, heartless, soulless, selfish, terrifying, and psychopathic spider-like alien who's a member of Silver's gang of pirates. He's pretty much everything that Silver would NEVER be like nor could he ever do, even if he tried. What Scroop did to poor Mr. Arrow was just horrible.
Treasure Planet is a very nostalgic movie for me, I’ll definitely add Silver to my list
@@jayfilms99/videos What about Scroop, though? He deserves to be talked about too since he's not only the movie's secondary antagonist, but he's also the movie's REAL antagonist, when you think about it.
I’ll do both, but I’m gonna space them out a bit. Which one you want to prioritize?
@@jayfilms99/videos I would talk about Silver first and then Scroop after that because Silver is the best character in the whole movie. He literally made the movie.
I got you
If he were a Deadly Sin, it'd definitely be Pride. The destruction he causes is all for infamy, and he even calls Ebola trivial compared to him. Seems like his pride isn't unfounded, with how powerful he is, but it's also what causes him to be defeated. Even so, for how questionable some of the biology accuracy is, it is terrifyingly accurate that the body can overheat if something this efficient invades it. Someone calls him La Muerte Roja, and I'm sure you can guess what that translates to. This walking Edgar Allen Poe reference is only an "an" away from "anthrax" which still reportedly causes thousands of deaths annually...
Wonder what Coronavirus would be like in the Ozzy and Drix cartoon if it was still going.
Seeing comments, glad I’m not the only one who finds Thrax kinda 😳
To think I watched this when I was 5-10 years old. Such a good movie. And it’s cool how the fire has the elemental structure
I loved the fire it looked like atomic level chemical reactions or something
@@EdMcStinko yah Ik right so much detail in the movie
he's my favorite animated villain. Such a badass.
Of course, Thrax is particularly evil.
Thrax is everything that's evil because he's contagious.
Funny story; I have Thrax as an ally character in miitopia (got him from access code). When I reached halfway through the game, the characters sometimes start to get sick and unable to be deployed for a few missions. Thrax, the *virus* , is the one who consistently gets sick the most.
Oh the irony
I really don't know why, but Thrax seeing his dad made me laugh so hard.🤣🤣😂
Underrated movie same goes for the show
wait there a show baised off this
@@everythingiscool6228 yessir
The cartoon series started out in Frank from where it left off gere, then the focus shifted to a kid. I cant remember
@@rodimusprime8616 yee, the show kinda had an atmosphere like the MIB show for some reason, or maybe that's just me
@@waxitoto1234 nah ur right
It had a similar feeling of interest when it came on cause it was based on very nicely done movies and started something like a mini franchise.💯
Laurence Fishburne was the perfect person to play Thrax. Definitely one of his most underrated roles.
thrax is also a character who’s design says a lot about him, particularly in the two scenes of him jumping out of the window and out of frank’s mouth. his trench coat expands, and the general shape of it forms what looks to me like bat wings. bats are known for having a body temperature ideal for hosting a number of viruses i don’t even have time to list, and what this says to me is that like his beloathed ebola virus, he could be a part of a bat’s natural microbiome that made a species jump onto the chimp, as viruses are known to do.
additionally, his chain adds onto his behavior. he wants more and more of those dna beads because like viruses in the real world, he takes genetic material from each previous host and actively learns from it to become better at what he does. god he’s just so amazing from a scientific viewpoint.
This Movie Is Awsome the How Movie Rocks ask me what chacrter i like in this movie Osmosis Jones
Jones and Thrax are probably my favorites
@@jayfilms99 what about Drix

Jones, Drix, and Thrax are awesome.
Why do villains from the 2000s gotta be so hot?? Thrax, Makuta and Roodaka from Bionicle, Gelorum from Hot Wheels, Eris from Sinbad, Captain Flint from Treasure Planet and I could go on and on... I bet a lot of people realized they weren't straight due to characters like these
My favorite line of his is always going to be: "This cat was sick before I even got here!"
I love the fact I've seen this creator grow. I was his second ever sub and now he almost has 1k. Keep going my guy, you're honestly really fun too watch because of your humour, it's also refreshing to see someone who truly loves what they are doing.😁🤜
And I ain’t forget you! You a real OG. Appreciate all the support, and glad there’s somebody who’s been here since the beginning.
I remember watching this when I was 8 or 9 years old. Just starting watching this on Netflix. Never understood why villains like him who are irredeemable are seen as boring. Some of the most famous pop-culture villains(ex:horror) don't have "boohoo, poor me." Backstories.
For a virus, Thrax is an excellent depiction of a serial killer
Thrax is an inspiration for the main villain of a book I'm working on; a single celled life-form, more intelligent and arguably in a different level of sentience above humans, that takes over the brains of a successive line of kings to gather resources to return home to his realm. Also, the too cool vibe of Thrax is just awesome
Your version of Thrax’s hypothetical origin story had me wheezing.
Great review of one of my fave villains who I always had a weird crush on
Everything is all fun and games until realizing Thrax killing humans is equivalent to destroying entire planets full of life and civilizations
Have you ever heard about ,"Cells at Work"? If so Episode 6-7 has this amazing villain I think you will sympathize. Plus awesome show, highly recommend.

He’s evil but he look good while doing it
You cannot deny Laurence Fishburne did a great job voice-acting Thrax. I want to hear him voice more animated villains!

Thought you were about to also class Thrax as sexy evil.
And if you don't think that's possible, yooooooooou don't know the internet, son.
the thing about thrax, is that he's like iconic serial killer, in cell form.
WHYD they have to make all the characters fine as hell
Thrax is the only reason to watch this "every cop trope in every movie ever" movie 😂
Big facts
That was the Nostalgia Critic's worst criticism of this movie. He has to overthink everything to the point he can't see obvious satirization
Thrax basically wanted to be COVID-19
No no no, COVID-19 wanted to be Thrax
Review Heath Ledger’s Joker.
I like your humour, you deserve more views.
Thanks for the support
HAHA YES! Thrax my man doing well in the ratings
That's Big Daddy Thrax to you....
The Thrax "origin" with his dad had me laughing out fucking loud. Bra-fucking-vo!
Did u mean to reference Face//Off?
Little known fact the song Thrax hums is, aptly named, Fever by Little Willie John.
Now that I revisited the movie in Netflix, I was realizing that Thrax is a true monster (both literally and symbolically). What makes him such a monster in literal sense is that he is absolutely not human and is not any normal virus but rather a posibly mutant one. His appearance is monstrous, he commands complete fear with only his presence and his abilities as a virus are against the natural standards of what a bacteria or germ does. Also, he committed evil in great scales, killing many of his hosts, which is equivalent to a serial killer.
What defines a monster is basically any non human being that scares, causes fear and is a threat by being against nature. Viruses in movies, such as the ones that turn people into zombies, are normally invisible monsters and mutant microorganisms that cause great damages in their hosts. Thrax is not an exception to this description as well, which makes him fit perfectly in this type.
Like and comment if you agree with my points. If you disagree, thats okay. Its your opinion and point of view and is respectable.
I won't lie
I watched the film for the first time only a couple of days ago and my first reaction? Just a general 'Wow that happened'.
But the next day, I couldn't get it out of my head so I watched it again, but this time I paid more attention to the plot and character development.
And after I saw it again, my second reaction- HOT DAMN HOW DID I NOT FALL FOR THIS FILM THE FIRST TIME? ESPECIALLY BIG DADDY THRAX(Good lord did I really just type that).
THAT VIRUS IS THE WORD SUAVE INCARNATE. I BULLSHIT YOU NOT.
thrax is definitly among the scary and more interesting cartoon villains in my book.
I honestly don't remember much from Osmosis Jones, because I saw it when I was really young. But out of everything in that movie, I do remember Thrax. He's like the first villain I can think of that really stuck with me, he scared the hell outta me as a little kid. That one scene where he drags his claw across the wall especially, for some reason. Like I barely remember any dialogue from that movie at all and even the appearance of most of the characters is really fuzzy in my mind, but that one specific scene has stuck in my head since I first (and last) watched that movie.
Thrax is one of the BEST animated villains ever made, considering that the movie didn't overwhelm the box office, he is criminally under appreciated.
In the time of COVID ....his villainy should be saluted some more!
What a well-made, well-worded review of one of my favorite childhood movie memories! You have officially earned yourself another subscriber (...or perhaps many many more...)
Even the way Thrax died looked really cool
Thrax is just phenomenal, for a kids movie he is absolutely terrifying! Plus he is super cool and just the best part of the movie without question
Amazing review!
Tbh, I've been in love with epidemiology (the study of diseases and health issues) since I was a little kid. When I first saw this virus make that cell explode, all I could think was, "Omg, that was amazing! What else can you do!". I fucking love this villain.
I first saw this movie in my middle school science class and I was hooked when Thrax appeared on screen. That club scene was my favorite.
I love how they never undersell how dangerous Thrax is. He's a major threat and is treated as such, which is something I miss in villains nowadays.
Will you do Ultron from Avengers 2 one of these days?
I got you, I’ll add them to the list
This video was so cool ! You have good video quality, nice pace, well-constructed opinions, but I think you might lack some length. Like, this one could have kept going for at least some more minutes ! At the end, I was asking for more. Really cool vid still !

0:10 What did Thrax actually do that Blood Cell? He looks as lethal as Covid-19
I've never put it together that he was voiced by Morpheus.
Don't know if I've seen a lot of Fishburne villains.
Laurence Fishburne playing Thrax is giving the same energy as Erik Delluns playing Aaravos- I should not be attracted to the villain… And yet, here we are. 💀

Covid19 on the loose
theres a theory that thrax isn't a virus and is just the cell from the beginning of the movie, explaining the inflammation, he's just an autoimmune disorder, but I like to believe that he's actually just a virus that hops from cell to cell, using them like a puppet to simulate autoimmune disorder, and then ditches it for a new cell each time he starts over

Being a virus definitely helps his character.
If the movie wasn't about body cells, and Jones, Thrax and everyone else were humans, it would probably still be a policial plot, but what would be Thrax' objective? Plant some bombs on the city I guess? That's lame.

The first time I actually watched Osmosis Jones, it was during middle school but not for a biology class school project or whatever; I watched it willingly out of pure interest…and I really enjoyed it (minus the live-action scenes).
