Pitch is my favorite Dreamworks villain for all these reasons. He could be the antagonist to all Dreamworks heroes, he's very flexible as an adversary. Everyone are afraid of something...
what I loved about his character was that despite all the attention on Jack, you would 'think' Pitch would go after him. Because why not? he's the main character, right? oh no, he goes after someone with the most power. Pitch has his priorities in straight and that's what I love. he doesn't go for the cliche.
8:18, I can explain that. It’s a pun. His Nightmares are literal mares that trot at night . (At least, that’s what I assumed when I watched the movie.)
Yeah the only thing I found was from Merriam-Webster which said the word mare in “nightmare” isn’t referring to a horse or anything similar. Instead the word is from way back when people believed in an evil spirit or presence that came in the night. These evil spirits were called “Mares”, an obsolete word that used to be used for malevolent supernatural beings. Having said all this… It’s now my head cannon that Pitch really just loves horses
@@matityaloran9157 I’m not sure. I honestly don’t mind it being just a weird quirk in Pitch’s personality. I mean ideally a character is a whole person in-universe
Thank you for covering my favorite character, he's so underrated and it makes me smile so much to see him garner more attention for the awesome villain he is
I always love DreamWorks rise of the guardians the animation, the story, Jack Frost himself, even though he gets Ship with Hiccup,Rapunzel(Tangled),Merida(Pixar Brave) and Elsa(Frozen)! Rise of the guardians, so underrated like treasure planet, the road to El Dorado, Sinbad, and Titan A.E! It a magical movie!
If you read the books blacks story is so tragic in short terms he was a good god kind and courageous who had a family also having a child he had to guard a place that contained the darkness however black was tricked into believing had child has been trapped and went into save them however he was attack and the darkness invaded and possesed him become a host for the darkness he became pitch black
I have a theory that Pitch Black was supposed to be a guardian for bravery, kids learn to be brave by facing their fears, but instead of accepting that role he became spiteful because he feared being forgotten when the children are brave.
Great villain review!. 👍👍, and I agree pitch is a great villain and he’s in one of my personal top 10 favorite Dreamworks villains, tbh I feel like people can be way to harsh on pitch calling him boring and generic villain with a uninteresting motive and a bad design, while yes I agree his design is not really that good, it’s not bad by any means it adds to his charecter and dark personality, but he looks more like the typical dark lord, which kinda makes his design come off as being to generic, but overall pitch is a great villain and I don’t understand the hate towards him.
Cyrus from Tron Uprising is a villain I think you will appreciate. Like Pitch Cyrus is a dark reflection of the main protagonist, very manipulative and well acted and is almost tragic while remaining firmly as a villain. He is the best antagonist of the Tron franchise in my opinion.
It's very interesting how this character is the opposite of two characters simultaneously(Jack and Sandman), his design while not being eyecandy for children is still very good one, it very much fits with his purpose and idea, i think one of the only letdowns of the character is that if you read the books(which are prequels to the movie), you learn that he basically was a great guy who got possossed by the nightmares, which turns him a little bit less cool, since he loses agency. But overall i think he is a very cool guy, and like you said, Sandman should have stayed dead to give Pitch a little more sense of threat.
pitch black wasnt actually made by the man in the moon! he’s quite a bit older if i remember correctly, he was a famous warrior in the galaxies named kosmotis pitchiner, and he was tasked with guarding the fearlings, however, they ended up tricking him into opening their cage by imitating his daughter’s voice, freeing them and causing them to possess him and turning him into pitch black (if i remember correctly, its been a LONG time since ive read the books)
Can you do Sauron from Lord of the Rings but to do him justice you should read the Lord of the Rings book and its prequel Silmarillion as I don't want you to misjudge the character can you do that, please?
3:31, according to a website whose name I don’t offhand recall, that’s actually commented on and explained in the books (I can’t vouch for accuracy as I haven’t read the books.)
"Congrats, everyone's gonna hate you now." Yep, the way the movie portrays it, that's how it sounds. Makes the Moon suck that much more. To be fair, I wouldn't mind, if it were acknowledged just a little more.
Actually yes! I’m currently in the middle of watching the show. I watch 1-2 episodes a night before bed just for the eventual review. Currently on season 2

Pitch Black is such a great villain, and Jude Law’s performance gave him so much life.
I always thought the horses were for the sake of the wordplay. Night”mare”
Not worth it imo
@@jayfilms99 It's a pun. A dad joke. In some ways, it is more perfect than you can possibly guess. (:

Well I think there’s also a mythological reason that ties into the original formation of the word; Night-mare
I’m gonna look it up now actually

Can you do a villain review on green goblin from the Spider-Man movie and no way home
I will comment something here when i finish the video

My theory is that man in moon made pitch to compliment the moon itself, Pitch representing the night maybe even a version of sandman

Horses: Why? Nightmare. Black Mare. Black Horse. Duh.

I think the whole turning nightmares into horses thing is a play on words: Night-mare, Mare being a female horse
