Seeing yourself back in the audience in 2021… damn… best concert I’ve probably ever been to…. These were the times..thanks Pixies… hope to see you again soon…
I made a mix of this song with Strauss' waltz about 20 years ago. It was great jingle, but you really can't miss with such great material... This one is probably the best version of this song on RUclips!
I really think Francis Black and Lacey Sturm do the most tasteful screams in songs. When either one of them scream it serves a purpose and isn't overly played out.
***** Not to mention things like that, you have to know what the intended meaning was to know whether it's REALLY 'proper' - so if the lyrics already have a loose grip on making sense (like most Pixies lyrics) I don't think anyone could really say how it should be.
Darren Ringer I was just talking about proper grammar, not about "proper meaning". This combination of words just does not exist in Spanish because "encanta" is a verb in the third person (he/she/it), you would need a noun (encanto) or an adjectiv (encantada) in such a sentence. But I agree with julosx, it is indeed nice that he doesn't miss the occasion to butcher some Spanish.
04steen I would venture to say there's no such thing as a combination of words that 'just does not exist' in any language. I know what 'encanta' is but that doesn't mean the lyric doesn't translate as "Island of 'encanta'", an island where everyone goes around saying 'encanta!' all the time. Poetic license goes a long way, as you may notice if (as El Oso Guapo suggested) you analyze other English songs. Just because they are superficially wrong doesn't mean the word choice was not intentional. My point is that it can go deeper than 'just sounding good', because in most Pixies songs lyrics which are superficially nonsensical really turn out to HAVE a meaning, it's just... hard to spot.
04steen granted that my above justification is a little shoddy, how about a direct counterexample: What if an island was called, on the map, "Enchant Island" (NOT enchanted Island). In a sense one might see the words and say they are gramatically incorrect, but it is a fallacy to apply the rules of grammar to a proper noun.
Best American rock band of all time as far as I'm concerned.
In full agreement.
that’s a bold claim but i honestly fuck with it
💯 %
Yes. Right after the Ramones and the Misfits. Dead Kennedys would be 4th.
My favorite part... "waawahAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH !!!!!!!"
If I had a time machine, THIS is where I would be right now. They sounded so tight!
I saw them on that tour in Glasgow Barrowlands

Chills. I actually got chills.
Yeah I saw the pixies live back in 1988 and yes they are raw and loud!!
This is one of the best video finds on you tube - a classic! Thanks for sharing! It sounds like it may the same version that was released live
That bass is just savage and relentless.
One of the finest Pixies tracks, so like the album track for being live. Joey, Frank and Kim so tight on their strings... Tis the gospel
only the pixies can blow ur fuckin mind in a minute n a half
The best representation of the relashipnship between US and L.A is this song, Caothic yet bewtifull as the new world we both represent. Go pixies.
A bit late reply but this song has nothing to do with LA and the US
it is the released version.
i simply took the recently surfaced video and synched up the released audio - it's the same concert.
Fantastic. 1:18 is truly great...
Goes right next up to Tame from Brixton Academy...Thanks for these videos einzack!

Took them 1:37 what took Tarantino all his films to create...nothing more epic than the Pixies.
I love this sped up version

It's the first time I see Charles playing on a Jazzmaster !
The whole band is fantastic, but I la la love David Lovering's drumming.

Isla de Encanta, a instant Ruok Classic
OH my god. There's a stuffed panda on the drumset.
During the whole song his Spanish is not bad at all. But,why does he say "Isla de encanta"? It's "Isla encantada" or "Isla del encanto". Anyway...
Back in the days, Charles never missed an occasion to butcher some Spanish :)
