🐞COCKROACH AND GINSENG TEA: Place cockroach and ginseng in a clay pot with 3 cups of water. Close the pot and let it boil for 45 mins and then serve.
🦎GECKO SOUP: Cut the gecko open and clean. Place its body and tail in a small pot with cow penis, dried sea horse, silk worm, pipefish and chinese medicine ingredients. Add water and cook for at least 4 hours.
🐍SNAKE SOUP: Wash, clean and deskin the snake and then steam it for 40 minutes. Flesh its meat out of the bones and chop into small pieces. Place snake bones and pork bone broth in a pot for 4 hours. Pour some broth into another pot and add woodears, minced chicken meat, snake meat, ginger and mushrooms. Add chicken stock, corn starch liquid, chinese wine and soy sauce in the broth pot. Cook and serve when it's ready.

As a HKer I'm really fascinated at your reactions on foods which I obviously regard as a normal meal in my daily life. It's nice to share each other's cultures and I really appreciate your respect on everything. Century eggs are one of my favourite kinds of egg products, and I usually pair it up with pickled pink ginger (the ginger that comes with sushi and wasabi). Near my home we also have a restaurant for snakes, and my mom used to bring me there often when I was small, and it wasn't until I entered high school to realise that it's not a common thing outside of Hong Kong.

I'm from Hong Kong too and I have only tried one of the soups shown here. Cockroach soup is not a "normal" meal in HK, or anywhere really.

Hi Sonny, I use to live in Hong Kong for a few years and I have many family from there who are living there still- so this video is very special to watch a bit of my child hood on screen. Especially congee and fried dough stick, in Cantonese we call it juk with Yao zha kwai and it is a Honki breakfast staple. Sometimes it is even eaten with soy milk. Glad you enjoyed!!!

I went to visit my relatives in Hong Kong in 1988. Food was so good and AWESOME! I love the noodles, congees, everything! I thought it was hilarious when they joked about, well you know what they joked about. I cooked the same most delicious food at home so I do not need to miss Hong Kong so much because it is so far away from where I live in Canada.

The snake is dead instantly once the head is chopped off. A slow metabolism means they can go longer without having to eat.
