Great vid Sonny! You truly are a cultured man. Much respect. You were hesitant in trying the lion and was honest about it. Your reasons are justifiable and what I love about your show is you are humble and respectful of others culture even if they differ from your own. Being sincere and grateful for the efforts that Mr Fernado presented you with the lion meat, you still ate it like a true champ and it shows on your face. I don’t say this lightly; but damn thank you Sonny for filling the hole in my heart from Bourdain’s passing. Although you have such different personalities, you definitely share his most memorable traits; just being an all around great person and such a great story teller ❤️
This made me tear up because I loved watching “Parts unknown.” It was one of my favorite pastime and watching Anthony in his element use to make me so happy. When he passed it, I couldn’t even watch his re-runs cause the thought of him not making anymore episodes was gut wrenching. For a long time I was trying to figure out why I gravitated to Sonny so much and I just realized it was because of how much I loved & admired Anthony for diving into these different worlds 🤍🕊
@@mel9823 ugh I couldn’t agree more. I actually just watched the Parts Unknown episode called “Bourdain’s Impact” which came out a few months after he passed while he was still filming that. It’s a mash up of highlights from all the seasons, and interviews with people he made connections with. I cried like a lil baby the entire time 😢❤️
I loved how you summarized everything. You were reluctant at first, but then you did you want to disrespect the culture. That really shows how involved you get when you meet people. Food is a religion and people have judged me on how I eat or what I eat ( Since I am from the south of India). You show has shown me how to be brave. Thanks for that.
I'm a teacher and had a somewhat difficult conversation with a student who said he wont eat chinese food because he thinks they will serve him dogs/cats/rats etc. I explained to him that in the united states thats not going to happen but yes some cultures do eat those things. While I love dogs and cats, and wouldnt go out of my way to eat one, I have harvested (killed and butchered) deer, lamb, rabbit and various foul. I've eaten squirrel and that's pretty much a rat that lives in a tree lol. I think it is totally hypocritical to eat beef or pork (cows and pigs) and then condemn another community or culture for eating another animal. thanks sunny for what you do! I love eating new foods and your an inspiration.
There are millions of Chinese out there that have NEVER eaten Dogs / Cats / Rats. Dog meat is only popular in 1 small village in China and millions of Chinese are called Dog meat eaters because of them. I'm Chinese and i grow up eating Beef, Chicken and Pork!

They had been killed for their pelts and why waste the meat? I personally don't care what you eat as long as it's not endangered or illegal. And its kept and butchered as humanly as possible.
Really appreciate that message at the end there. I agree that most people that would get upset with exotic foods are meat eaters and I think it really is up to the person in the end to explore his/her culinary curiosity on his/her own as long as its legalised and slaughtered humanely. Big ups to you Sonny!
@@flankuschuba I'm all with you on this one. I'm just wondering about the word humanely. I don't know if there's a humane way to kill a living being that doesn't want to die
What about animals licking their butts and eating their offsprings? We brutally kill 75 billion land animals per year, in fully automated processes, this has nothing to do with a "foodchain" or something like this, these animals are nothing more than batteries from the moment they're bred into existence. The whole american rainforest will be destroyed in a few decades and the greenhouse gas emissions from that industry are disastrous. Not to mention things like antibiotics, pesticides, hormones and so on... And in the end the only single argument for this is "It tastes good". Most people in the world wouldn't have to eat animal food for a healthy whole-food nutrition, so I just can't understand why we still do this

Vegetarian here & I enjoy watching Sunny's show. I obviously am not going to eat any of this but I find his show very interesting & well done. If you eat meat, you should not be complaining about him eating anything that he does. As long as it's humane & legal I'm ok with it. I'm sure these methods are far less cruel then factory farming & slaughterhouses.
Anyone who eats meat and complains about what is being shown here is clearly ignorant. As a meat eater, I understand that the food that I eat comes at a cost and I'm glad Sonny shows everything here and especially makes sure that the animals are killed as humanely as possible with as little pain as could be possible.

I was born in Mexico City but moved to the US since three. My mom told me they sell lion meat in Mexico City but I thought it was a wives tale. This is crazy. Great episode.
When I was stationed on the east coast, we had wild boars right on the Navy base. One of my petty officers had one on his property harassing his dogs, so he shot it. The next day, he brought some barbecued ribs that he made from it. Delicious! I used to be a ranch hand, and one of the nearby farmers always had exotic meats that he had killed. He brought us bear, mountain lion, and javalina. The mountain lion was just as you described the lion, very chewy. The bear was much easier to eat. At my local university, the entomology department has an annual event in which various bugs are presented as food. I've eaten ants, bees, beetles, meal worms, earthworms, silkworms, scorpions, crickets, and grasshoppers. Also, in Korea, some buffet restaurants will have crickets and grasshoppers on the line. At different restaurants around town, I've had ostrich, quail, gator, frog legs, chicken feet, pig feet, rabbit, lamb, and shark. I've had jerky made of rattlesnake, kangaroo, elk, and caribou. I've eaten almost every part of a cow, pig, fish, duck, and chicken. I love what you're doing with this series, where you try to expand people's minds as to what food is available. Thank you.

Great video! I totally agree with you about people needing to question their thought process on 'acceptable' foods. I am always amazed at how people can be fine eating certain types of meats, but then get offended at people eating other meats that they deem to be unusual. Living in Asia the past 10 years (Cambodia) has really opened my eyes up to the hypocrisy of this.

In some cultures, refusal of another’s offering of foods and gifts shows a lack of humility. Thank you for spreading cultural awareness and diversity all over the globe one dish at a time.

That kid is ignorant, and obviously has a racist up bringing.
There are millions of Chinese out there that have NEVER eaten Dogs / Cats / Rats. Dog meat is only popular in 1 small village in China and millions of Chinese are called Dog meat eaters because of them. I'm Chinese and i grow up eating Beef, Chicken and Pork!
@@killanige I'd say ignorance. I called his mom and she said she doesn't know where he got that from they don't tolerate racism in their home. More than likely it was from socal media. The kid is 13, very suseptable to nonsense from the internet
@@geekroute no doubt. I explained this to him, but also tried not to demonize anyone who does eat those things. I've eaten coyote and bobcat. They had been killed for their pelts and why waste the meat? I personally don't care what you eat as long as it's not endangered or illegal. And its kept and butchered as humanly as possible.
Great teacher right here 👆
Really appreciate that message at the end there. I agree that most people that would get upset with exotic foods are meat eaters and I think it really is up to the person in the end to explore his/her culinary curiosity on his/her own as long as its legalised and slaughtered humanely. Big ups to you Sonny!
@@SelfCompassion123 sedating and slaughtering or a quick death is definitely better than being bludgeoned to death, i would say
@@flankuschuba I'm all with you on this one. I'm just wondering about the word humanely. I don't know if there's a humane way to kill a living being that doesn't want to die
@@SelfCompassion123 what about animals killing humans and technically humans are also animals

Moral of the video "Human is the most dangerous species in the world"🔥🔥
When I was stationed on the east coast, we had wild boars right on the Navy base. Thank you.
