    This was the most played radio & tv song of the 20th century and held that honor up until 2019 when the song EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE passed them up. They were a fantastic duo. The tenor Bobby Hatfield passed away 15-20 years ago. They got their name while singing at a place near a marine base in California , when a person got up and complemented them by saying “that was Righteous brother”. Other big hits you could react to UNCHAINED MELODY & YOUR MY SOUL AND INSPIRATION. this was a great reaction and you have a blessed day.

    As has been said: Unchained Melody from the Andy Williams Show is a must. Bobby (the blonde tenor here) sang it solo and hit some insane number of separate notes during the performance. It will blow your socks off. I marvel to this day that anyone was ever capable of singing like that and looking like they were having a conversation. Effortless. Most perfect singing I've ever encountered. To top it off, he wasn't feeling well, and was nervous because his parents were in the audience. Stellar vocals on Bobby Hatfield.

    I believe this was the most played song in the late 20th century. They were righteous, brother! Bobby does a live solo version on the Andy Williams show of Unchained Melody. Possibly the greatest live performance ever imho. Try to get the longer version intro explaining why it’s a solo with Bobby and Bill talking to Andy before the actual performance. It’s amazing.

      The reason given is a joke, though. They actually each did one solo per album and they flipped a coin to see who got to do Unchained Melody. Bobby (and the world) won the coin toss. No offense to Bill intended. His voice is amazing, but that song was better with Bobby's voice than anyone's.

    "Soul and Inspiration" is another monster duet by the Righteous Brothers. Now, you've already reacted to Heart's cover of "Unchained Melody" but these guys initiated it and you'd be hurting yourself if you don't react to Bobby Hatfield's delivery on the Andy Williams Show from 1965.

    • @WoodsWoman822
      @WoodsWoman822 Год назад +1

      The Righteous Brothers Version was definitely the most popular version!!
      BUT....Unchained Melody was already a hit in 1954-55 by Roy Hamilton. It was also featured in a Movie in the 50's about a Prisoner wondering if his Love would still be waiting for him when he was finally set free.
      Elvis Presley also Sang Unchained Melody at his Final filmed Concert Preformance on June 21, 1977 just weeks before his Passing. I would recomend you listen to Elvis's Live Audio Version first, Recorded on
      April 24, 1977 4 months before He Passed, as it was vocally his best :
      Elvis Presley
      Unchained Melody
      Official Lyric Video
      I would wait to see the Live filmed Concert Version until after you see the 2022 Elvis Bio Pic Movie 🎬 which I'm sure most Elvis fans would enjoy watching with you !!

      Wasn't a "solo effort". It was just a song written for one voice and Bobby was elected to sing it. He was not going out on his own. Also, Cher was a background singer for them at one point.

    • @bob_._.
      @bob_._. Год назад +3

      @@elizabethrogers8306 Please forgive me for using the term "solo" to describe a performance voiced by only one singer. I stand corrected; Bobby's effort was obviously and completely a "half duo."

  • @jamesdignanmusic2765
    @jamesdignanmusic2765 Год назад +11

    I'm convinced that the songs of the Righteous Brothers are at least in part responsible for the baby boom of the 1960s. This and "Unchained Melody" were huge hits - on the latter Bobby (the tenor) handled the vocals solo.

      Yes it was. There is another RUclips clip of this performance where the fans screaming wasn't edited out. Sometimes when people remix these old clips to isolate just the music the whole vibe is lost. Example: Medley singing "everything I do", where he's looking downward, he was singing to some girls that were screaming every time he moved. So sweet and what a thrill for them.@@doloreskrisky1670

      It's funny that you mentioned Cheers because that was the first time I ever heard of the song Unchained Melody. I looked up the episode to make sure I was remembering it correctly, and the one I'm referring to was Season 4, Ep 20, from 1986 where Nick and Carla are in a dance competition and they danced to the song. I was 8 at the time, and it stuck with me all these years. It looks like the song has some repeat appearances in the series, too. 😊

    "Unchained Melody" is phenomenal and it was a hit a second time when it was featured in the movie Ghost with Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, and Whoopi Goldberg. Their other #1, sort of the matching companion to "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" is "(You're My) Soul And Inspiration". Bill Medley (the one with the deep voice) also hit #1 in the 80's with his duet with Jennifer Warnes "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" from Dirty Dancing, another Patrick Swayze movie.

    According to BMI, this is the most requested/played/air time song of the 20th century. This is yet another live performance on a variety show = no auto tune or computer aids here in '64. This song is primarily sung by Bill Medley. Their next hit - Unchained Melody ('65) is a solo from Bobby Hatfield; their 3rd big hit - Soul and Inspiration ('66) both sing one verse each with the finale mostly by Medley. Side note from this video: one of the chorus singers is a young Cher. Their harmony is just pure magic. And yes, back in the day, a weekly TV pamphlet would be mailed out listing shows/air time/channel for the coming week. Believe me, when this duo was going to appear "live" on a show all us gals would be tuned in, wishing "our night in shining armor" would serenade us like they did.

    Love to see reacting as you do , really appreciating like you did ! The hottest, romantic and soulful group of the 60's. They were called Blue eyed souls ! we only listened through the radio or vynil and everybody thought they were black, the bests of R&B, until the
    tv became affordable... and we realize they were white 😅 !
    Their name was chosen after a tour through the south when they performed in a saloon near a black marine base and some went see them.
    They were so impressed that shouted what they used to : that's righteous, brothers! They never fail you, allways give chills ! Thunder and Lightning g. They sing solo, 🔥 Bill's I wanna make love to you or absolutely surrey Bobby's Summertime !!! And together their harmonies are spotless, moving and brilliant. But don't forget the most famous love song ... Bobby's Unchained Melody

    One of the backing singers was called Cher I believe. Unchained Melody is also a great song but Bill made the mistake of letting Bobby sing it as a solo and then the film "Ghost" relaunched it into the charts.

      Don't know how it was a mistake. Bobby had been singing it solo for years. He brought it to the recording studio to be his solo for the album.

    At the time of this performance, Bill and Bobby were only 24 or 25. The polish they displayed so young is so impressive.

    Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield, the most blue eyed soulful duo of the 60's. Phil Spector produced this and you hear what was dubbed "the wall of sound" in this song.

    Bobby sings with wide emotional range with the most versatile gymnastically runs and skill listen to him rip his talent singing: Summertime, Unchained Melody, My Prayer, Bill singing I just want to make love to you, Duo You'll never walk alone, etc. .etc.

    The Righteous Brothers are amazing - obviously. They have many hits. I would ask that you do a reaction to their song "Rock and Roll Heaven''. It's not as popular in the mainstream as some of their other hits, but it's still a great tribute song to the early legends in rock and roll.
    I love your appreciation of good music!
