Hopeful The Fairy Kitten Some domestic cats are quite aggressive. You just lucky you didn't get one of those, I am pretty lucky too. My cousin though has a nice little orange tabby from a shelter that has gotten her hands all scarred. His way of communicating is biting on her hand - hard, drawing blood, she is lucky not having had a serious infection yet. She might be sitting on a sofa watching tv, but when the cat wants attention, he'd bite. He'd be a sweet little lap cat one moment, and then his teeth are in her flesh. He's gotten better over the years, but in general, some cats do attack, and while they'll not eat you, you can end up in a hospital on IV antibiotics hoping you'd not lose your hand.

Cougars run the gamut... purr, meow, hiss, growl, blood curdling scream, and that silence that means... "you're @#%&ed" They are absolutely gorgeous animals... but they're also the reason I carry a full size .357 Sig when I scout and hunt.

I find the fact that the "meow" is strictly used to communicate with humans (following kittenhood where it's used to alert mum) rather fascinating. Feral cats don't meow at each other once they've grown up.
Cats have realized we are extremely poor at understanding body language, but act cute enough and we will be their mommy.
It's simply amazing how tigers can and will totally caterwaul to communicate to humans!
My cats love me, but I have no doubt that if they were 400 lbs, they would have eaten me by now.

dogs i can believe will love humans. cats, im not so sure. they are solitary animals for the most part (lions are the exception) so i dont think they are wired to feel anything like love which is meant to bond animals. i think the most a cat can feel for anyone is affection like how they will purr when they lick the mouse they just killed

there's something so sweet about seeing big cats acting like house cats, and vice versa. i don't know how to describe it really, but it's a similar feeling i get when i see monkeys, chimps, and apes naturally acting like people (or people like monkeys). there's that little connection between both that'll never break. just...some things are universal and there's a comfort in that, y'know?

There was a vegan couple who got charged with animal cruelty because they fed their cat a vegan diet. That cat almost died from being malnourished. They need to eat meat to survive.

We didn't domesticate cats. They chose to live with us. We did domesticate dogs tho
that's not really true. Cats were only allowed to live with us in the first place because they caught mice, which curbed the black plague and food spoilage.
And cats are still hunters, their insicts are the same as the tiger's
the black death existed way before the middle ages though. according to several ancient historians it broke out several times already way before the year 0.
as you know cats live most of their lives alone, dogs are pack animals. cats don't understand the concept of alpha male and leader, dogs do. that's why they are different ,they still love their humans like dogs do but they act differently
I think in lion prides their is an Alpha, if you have a few pet cats, there "will" be a pecking order.

You're comparing apples and oranges here. Felines are predators from house cats to tigers. Canine species are not true predators. they are scavengers and pack animals, a pack of wolves would kill a human so would a pack of dogs or coyotes. The main difference is that even a wolf can be domesticated (which is how they breed dogs to be what they are today) but you cannot domesticate a big cat and most even most of the smaller cats. House cats are not even truly domesticated they are just tame and due to their size not very aggresive, If a house cat weighed 30-50lbs and was a little bit bigger you would have a real problem on your hands.
***** you're still comparing apples and oranges here, a feline and a canine are two completely different types of animals, you would never be able to domesticate a tiger. A tiger is a predator and doesn't give a shit about you. All you are is food to a tiger end of story.
Big cats and domestic cats are derived from one ancestor and through time, we humans have bred and created the domestic cat which I'm sure they just used small cats to breed over and over and over. So yes, they would indeed eat us if they were bigger.

A few thoughts: (1)wolves and dogs are the same species (from a genetic standpoint) so comparing wolves/dogs and big cats/house cats is not the same. The house cat came from Felis syvestris, which is a small cat a little bigger than house cats, and it is believed that the African subspecies (which is more docile than European wildcats) was the one domesticated. (2) Would a house cat kill their owner if they could? I doubt it. They may not be as thoroughly domesticated as dogs (who have been domesticated longer than any other animal), but they are still domesticated and have an attached to their peeps. (3) Is it possible to domesticate a big cat? Theoretically, perhaps. Search for" Domesticated Siberian Foxes" and watch one of the fascinating videos. A few problems with domesticating big cats would be... most big cats are endangered or threatened, so finding the 1% who is least aggressive or fearful of people by nature would be harder if not impossible. It's even possible that those who would have been more genetically likely to be domesticated have all been killed off (since a big cat who is not fearful or aggressive when confronted with people is at a huge disadvantage in the wild). . There is also the genetic predisposition of canines to genetic change (via tandem repeaters and like mechanisms) which is why there is a huge variation in dog size but not much in cats.

Domestic being those that are happy to live with us and provide us useful products and demand nothing but food and water in return - ie cows, goats, sheep, horses, camels, hens, ducks and geese.
Wild creatures are those that are either solitary, untrainable, prone to migrate or like a dinosaur or leopard have no byproduct for us apart from the pleasure of their occasional company or for us to admire their beauty or power.
As for creatures being carnivorous all creatures including yourself are designed to be vegetarian including lions and TRex with plenty of evidence for that.

A bit, but we only started seriously domesticating cats some 200 years ago (some exceptions, like in Egypt) while we domesticated dogs tens of thousands of years ago.
For most time our relationship with cats was that they lived "wild" around our farms and ate rats in our storages but they weren't truly pets.
So they are quite wild but not quite as wild as big cats that haven't been domesticated at all.
if you do some research you'd know that Egypt is generally believed to be where they were domesticated(which have paintings of them that are around 3600 years old), and the animal that they descended from is the African Wildcat. However there are records of human-feline interactions far before that; in 2004, a Neolithic grave excavated in Shillourokambos, Cyprus, contained the skeletons, laid close to one another, of both a human and a cat. The grave is estimated to be 9,500 years old

+Tim Her Well by definition domestic animals have gone through artificial selection to make them more suitable as pets, so even if bigger, they would be less agressive towards humans, unless you imagine we'd make agressive breeds on purpose as "guard cats" or something like that.
There would be more accidents, with more lethality, but they wouldn't be that agressive, or they wouldn't be domestic cats anymore, just big cats like any other wild cats.
