Predecessor - Two Minute Review!

- Predecessor is a 5v5 Multiplayer online battle arena, featuring the traditional 3-lane map with a jungle, mobs, roles and objectives you expect to see in the genre, but played from a third person perspective. It’s a revival of Paragon, a game that was shut down in 2018, and aims to recreate it’s core gameplay and aesthetics, while also adding new features and improvements. The game will be going free-to-play once it leaves early access.
The game is still in development, but it has shown steady progress and huge potential. While it fails to revolutionise the genre, the third-person perspective feels like a modern take rather than a gimmick. Gameplay is responsive and satisfying, quickly becoming addictive. The characters are diverse with impactful abilities, but the developers have done a decent job of avoiding any being essential pick. The base game has 10 heroes, but others in the regularly growing roster can be unlocked through playtime.
Most of the issues with the game come from the player base. It really suffers from a lack of concurrent players, leading to long queue times and completely unbalanced matchmaking, where rounds can snowball quickly. Matchmaking issues are exacerbated by the high learning curve and skill ceilings. Additionally, even by MOBA standards, the community has strong toxic elements that the developers seem unwilling to deal with.
In summary, despite the core game being great with even more potential, the business model needs to build and maintain a consistent player base, in a highly competitive genre where ironically, its own predecessor has already failed. Going free to play will hopefully abate matchmaking issues, but other community issues and questionable development decisions make me a little skeptical right now.
In short, it's a game I fully recommend trying when it's free, but I can't recommend paying any money into it right now.
Despite this, as a free game, I give it 80%

About:
You and four allies join arms in battle as you fight for glory on the battlefield against enemy heroes on a traditional 3 lane map featuring an interactive jungle, epic monsters and more! In a match 10 players are divided into two teams with each player controlling their chosen hero. No two heroes are the same. Each hero has their own unique abilities and design, meaning there's a hero to match everyone's style of play. Heroes complete objectives to collect gold like killing minions, towers or enemy heroes. As a hero collects more gold they can buy items from the shop that influence their heroes in interesting ways - allowing them to teleport to new locations, go invisible, freeze time and more. Items also allow a hero to get more powerful by giving their hero better attributes such as power, attack speed, health and various other stats. Unlike most MOBAs, Predecessor puts you into the heart of the action. The Third-Person perspective fully immerses you into the game as enemies appear from shadow walls, over ledges or from behind you
Free 30 day Ps5/ Ps4 console beta access from tomorrow Dec 5 to Jan 5. Sign up now and I'll see you on the battlefield!

Paragon at home:
Great idea with the 2 min reviews love it!!
All good stuff. In particular, you're right on about matchmaking and addictiveness. I'm fully hooked though 60% of the time having a bad match.
it's free on Epic Games until the 13th of dec 11:00AM EST
Looking forward to it 👍
nice
😮
Pred is not Paragon, but a shallow copy of it. It feels generic because it lacks the card system that made Paragon trully unique. It also fails to provide reasons to play the game since it's lacking a ranking system (and a decent matchmaking for that matter) which also happened to Paragon and was the main reason why it failed.
This game is fundamentally flawed, given that the devs never really understood what made Paragon good in the first place and have little to no experience developoing games.
As an OG Paragon player I wouldn't recommend this at all.
It’s a good game paragon was a good game. The producers pulled their funding for it to put it into another game. You all might know as fortnight and it did do really well had a lot of players, but people like you are the reason why nobody knows about it cause you’re a bunch of snobsbecause it’s not legal legends
