    Can confirm it also sucks in a street car. I have a 302 with a manual trans and there is no ability to modulate the throttle.

    Sweet rig! I will be getting this system for my 383 stroker that oddly enough looks really similar to yours in my 66 chevelle. Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I’m sure it will help lots of people out down the road.

      I’m doin the same thing on my 88 K1500 4x4. 383 stroker. What sniper kit are you gonna use? I’m still researching.

    • @stevenvanheel3932
      @stevenvanheel3932 Год назад

      @@IAMElectric369 I used the gold colored one- it’s the master kit that came with a fuel pump, the clamps, and a roll of fuel line. If I did it again I think I would buy the stealth kit with an external ECU. Another thing I would highly recommend is buying the progressive throttle linkage kit from Holley- the linkage that comes on these is way to aggressive and you will pretty much be doing burnouts every time you want to accelerate from a stop.

    Swapped out my performer 2701 for an old school 1960's Holley Street Dominator single plenum. Agree with you on the throttle. Tried hooking my solid throttle linkage to my sniper and I was doing wheelies in my driveway. Ended up buying a Holley Dominator Carb throttle extension which bolts onto the sniper throttle and slows down the linkage so my 55 impala is manageable. Didn't know Chris had those progressive linkages on his site. He is a great resource for us.

    Very informative! Just what i needed and this even before i was ready to tackle this issue. It was just pure luck i stumbled upon this video.
    Have just installed my Sniper EFI. Barely started to tune the system and today i had my first drive around the block. Had to lift of the gas pedal in first corner because of fear of losing control over my Firebird (400cid) rear end. It's not advisable using stock throttle linkage on Pontiac Firebird second gen based on my recent experience. Thanks for good tips!

    Thank you so much for making this video. I have the same problem as you showed. Because of you know I know how to fix them. I really want to like the Sniper system, but so far is has not been fun. Thank you again.

      Yea, this is definitely my last SBC or SBF build. All future builds will be with modern engines. With today's plug-n-play stand-alone systems, an LS engine is much easier to deal with than Holley or FI Tech fuel injection, and seems more reliable over the long haul.

  • @roloaddict
    @roloaddict 4 года назад +5

    Great video. Street machine or rock crawler, I think you are really addressing a different benefit as well. You want smooth, linear power across a broad range. That is the reason to use a dual plane manafold. The dual plane design pre dates the EFI and was optimised for a progressive opening carburetor. The original Sniper 1:1 linkage is really optimised for an open plenum design . Adding the progressive linkage lets you more fully use the benefits of the DP's higher velocity, smaller runners at lower rpm for better response.

    Great info on the sniper. You should shop around for a return spring for the throttle I had one like that on my carb I in up using a single spring on my car it made it a smoother throttle

    • @chrisdesertdog2162
      @chrisdesertdog2162  5 лет назад +2

      The spring isn't the problem, the problem is that the buggy wants to burn rubber with barely any throttle input (10%TPS). Not good for rock crawling. The progressive linkage and a little tuning solves this.

  • @stanmorton8975
    @stanmorton8975 Год назад +1

    The linkage should come from Holley in as much as everyone has this problem requiring an additional investment of $15 to buy this modification. It was the first thing I noticed when test driving after sniper install. Reminds me of harley selling new bikes with quiet pipes when they know the roar is what attracts buyers and you then have to upgrade to after market pipes. Just give us what we pay for. Is that so hard? Jeez louise...

    Thank you for your video. I purchased the new linkage and set the TPS at 50. My engine is in a jeep. Balanced 350 with RV cam and a 5 speed. It appears that it has a lot more top end yet to find but more important issue is that it is running super rich. Tons of un burned fuel in exhaust. What fuel settings might you advice for better fuel mileage? I've been fighting this thing for 2 years almost.

    What is the actual whistle sound from - wondering if its bad? Been running the sniper for a few years and mine and have it too. I'm going to try the spacer. I thought my starter or transmission was making that noise.

    • @chrisdesertdog2162
      @chrisdesertdog2162  4 года назад +2

      I don't believe that the whistle hurts performance; it's just annoying. But, adding the spacer keeps the Sniper unit, computer included, cooler; which is a good thing.

    Good info Chris. I enjoy the vids. I’m running a 2601 Edelbrock air gap that has the spreadbore/squarebore dual pattern. Was going to run the thin adapter plate and the Canton spacer on my new MSD Atomic set up. You ever thought about milling down the center divider in the intake like the rpm air gap? Lots seem to think it helps with gremlins in they have. You on Instagram? Thanks

    Hi, good video
    What was your normal fuel consumption with 4 port carburetor / mile?
    And fuel consumption today with injection / miles?
    Bought a Mercery Marauder 1969 with 429 BigBlock and draw 3L / mile when driving calmly with 4 port carburetor. Is it profitable to buy injection if you are thinking of reducing fuel consumption?
    Grateful if you can give me an answer to the question ..

    Couldn’t you have used an open phenolic spacer rather than hunting down a specific 4-hole? I have an Edlebrock Air Gap and have heard the Sniper runs better with an open spacer using an Air Gap intake.

    • @chrisdesertdog2162
      @chrisdesertdog2162  5 лет назад +1

      Unfortunately, if you brows the Sniper forums, you will see that people have lots of issues with the open spacers, which completely went away with the 4-hole design.

      As long as it has no Vacuum its got enough flow, It has more than enough CFM without opening all the way if its not enough you will build intake Vacuum at WOT. I know this is Old but some people have no clue.
