I had a 57 Johnson with electric start and remote throttle on a 1965 Larson 16 ft speedboat. That 35 Performed more like 50 Plus HP...what a great motor! It kicked that boat around very nicely on the St. Croix river back in the 80s. It was similar in performance to my Bayliner 17 ft with a Mercury 70 HP.
Just bought 1957 RJE-19 35hp Johnson, boy is it rough looking, but I was able to fire it up. definitely needs impeller, wires, fuel lines, carb rebuild, just everything more then likely
The 18 HP's Big Brother! In fact, the most powerful motor OMC built until the Fat Fifty came out the following year. In '57 you had your choice of 3, 5.5, 7.5, 10, 18, or 35 HP. They dropped the 7.5 soon after. My father had a brand new one. Evinrude called it the "Fleetwin" and I think it was in their model lineup for a few years before Johnson dealers had it. Not really much of a need for it - if 5.5 wasn't enough why not go to 10Hp and the price jump and weight difference were probably minimal.
i just got a 10 just going thru it so far all looks good ,,,lower case oil like new ,coils etc all new ..havnt run it yet ,gonna give her a face lift ,,i think its the last of that retro style motors.. thats the only reason i got it, so darn pretty, havnt got a clue about outboards ,,lol i am a body man painter so she is gonna look sweeeeeeeeet . on a zodiac 10 ft .
@Russ Gallagher My dad ran his 1952 25 hp on 50:1 with a good quality oil and it did not survive after several years the block and pistons was badly scored when we took it apart.
How can I get you to look at a motor I have. You mentioned center hill lake. I’m about an hour away from there. I am obtaining my grandfathers boat and will need some help on it for sure. Let me know if you could assist me.

Nice motor. I love 57 Johnsons. What size is your boat? Any idea how fast you were running? Thanks for the video.

Hello Mr Tate ... From Canada
I have one like that to fix up do they use a lot of gas compared to a 1973 Johnson 25 hp
Nice one Chris! I saw one of those for $20 on marketplace but I didn’t get it
Glad you started that not me.
David Farmer it's not hard to pull it's just hard to film and pull it at the same time. Thanks for watching!

I got a 1959 35hp Johnson it’s white in color RDSL21
Me and my dad ran a 1952 25hp on 50: 1 and it eventually died and we did use a good quality oil.
all engines do at some point even if you do good maintnence
They run 16:1 not 50:1 that’s why
@@sethgabbard7705 I told my dad that and told him that he should have used 20:1 as I thought that was what the correct mixture at the time.
Little Monster
Love it!!!
I run my 15 , 10 and 18 on 20:1 just for your info. Both 10 and 15 are 1956 and 18 is 1958 and a 58 5.5 as well all on 20:1 fuel mixture.

Joel Scott what year, brand of motor and horsepower is it?

thing flat gets with it
I'm 71 and my shoulders all torn up. About an 15--18hp is likely the "top" of my rope starting abilities LOL
I just added electric start to mine. A dream come true
Would you ever sell it?
