    Can someone explain the weight situation... do you sacrifice the weight every drop?

    • @LocalKnowledge

      We used to do it this way. Now we fish with the weight about 60' up from the hook.

    A charter with Dana Warf Sportfishing just caught a sword fish during the day but it can with a 7 hour fight

    • @LocalKnowledge
      @LocalKnowledge  5 лет назад +2

      This is correct. They do get caught from time to time on the surface but the deep drop is a much more reliable way to get a bite.

      Tackle today has come a long ways compared to the hickory wood rods and old coxes reel linen line we used in the 50es we lost many fish before getting first one in 1964 in 1959 I watched my dad go 13 hour on huge fish loosing it right at galf I was only 6 years old at the time so it was way to hard for my dad to learder and galf the fish by himself

      Love your show one thing is I disagree with the harpoon no club in California will accept that as a caught fish

    • @xprettylightsx
      @xprettylightsx 4 года назад

      George Williams very curious to hear ur answer , to qualify as a “caught” fish you need to gaff and tail rope only?? Thank you.

    • @georgewilliams7078
      @georgewilliams7078 4 года назад

      @@xprettylightsx If your in a fishing club and you want to get reckanesion for the fish you have got to fish by the rules first its against the law to have a harpoon on your when sport fishing. And yes galf and tail rope only there so other rules like cant fight the fish from rod holder .Think all clubs I know of have same rules. I belong to the SCTC in long beach California check your rules

    Question... so after you get the bait to the bottom and the weight pops off. Can you retrieve the weight? The only reason I ask is because of the plastic zip ties.

    • @LocalKnowledge

      No sir. Since then we have gone to metal bailing wire for this reason.

    If you have no current and you’re dropping the weight when you hit bottom, with the wind, would a sea anchor help to keep you more vertical?

    • @LocalKnowledge
      @LocalKnowledge  5 лет назад +1

      It would for sure but we like to cover ground. If it's really windy the Sea Anchor is a great option. Otherwise we'd prefer to be moving more.

    I'm not going to be able to name names, but if someone checked with the Balboa Angling Club, I'm pretty sure in the 70's when I was fishing week in and week out in the Newport area, that broadbill swordfish were caught in the day time, on rod and reel. On the surface, when they are sunning.

    • @LocalKnowledge
      @LocalKnowledge  3 года назад

      There are a handful of surface fish caught each year. When we say "Daytime" fish we are referring to Daytime Deep Dropping. Deep Dropping produces way more bites than surface fishing. Good luck.

    Why no circle hooks???

    • @LocalKnowledge
      @LocalKnowledge  6 лет назад +2

      We use circles for 90% of our fishing. For swords we prefer a J hook. They are very clumsy eaters and a lot of times they will get hooked in the bill or elsewhere.
