Loved the video. Brings back many memories. I remember the 1978 season, it was epic! Loved hearing Jock Albright’s name. We won a masters Marlin tournament on his boat many years ago. I’ve been in Oregon for 27 years chasing a different kind of fish. Thanks for the memories and the smiles.
Funny how Steve mentioned that there were 250 permits in '77. By 1980, there were over 2000. Everyone got a plank. I don't think the Dreadnought ever had one though.
Great video guys miss SO CA, grew up there working on boats and know some of you. Up in Charleston Oregon for about the last six years fishing tuna so I really enjoy your videos. Keep it up
what a dream i've been fishing 22 years and since the day I learned about surface sword fishing it's been a glinting dream. I can't wait until I can take the time to experience and appreciate that fishery
We hunt these kind of fish in Indonesia.. No one as expert as you.. ended in either line out / broken line.. I'm still studying how to land these kind of fish
Great videos and stories. I fish out of Ghana West Africa, but have never seen any surface Swordfish, nor heard of any getting caught. It's mainly Wahoo and Dorado here, and the occasional Blue Marlin and Tuna. Illegal commercial fishing has dwindled stocks.
Iam not sure how many realize what a feat it is to not only catch one surface Sword but even to cast a livey on a heavy conventional. Its something i believe far less than .001% of the population will ever see or much less do

It would seem inaccurate casting is a big problem here. Most of the casts in both videos were either lining the fish or behind the fish.
Those fish arent on the top of the water looking for food, thats why they dont want anything to do with it.
Baited a ton like this. They are just up digesting.
Cool
