Capcom had so many great titles on the Dreamcast. Everything they released was gold. My favorites were Marvel vs. Capcom, Power Stone, Resident Evil CODE: Veronica, and Street Fighter Alpha 3.
Clay3613 yes sir I remember that. I actually still own my special edition RE4 on my game cube, I purchased it back in January of 2005. I was still in the USMC, and I was in the barracks every day, playing that game.
That Killer launch was also one of the dreamcast's biggest problems. After they pretty much played all there cards at launch in terms of software, they had no strategy for long term other than Shenmue.
I got a Dreamcast in 2001. I knew it was in hot water even as a little kid because its games were in a small rack in the middle of gamestop when the other games were lined up on the wall
The North American Sega Dreamcast launch is the greatest video game launch ever! On 9.9.99 you had over 20 quality titles like NFL 2K, Sonic Adventure, Soul Calibur, Power Stone, Ready 2 Rumble, and so much more. There were too many good games to play for the Dreamcast the first year it was released. Sega Sports games were so much better than the NBA 2K being developed now and free online multiplayer was a bit slow, but was incredible in 2000 with NFL 2K1, NBA 2K1, Quake Arena, and 4x4 Evolution. It's a shame that the Dreamcast didn't have a DVD-ROM drive and better 3rd party development support because it had everything else it needed to compete with Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft. The Microsoft Xbox became the Sega Dreamcast 1.5 or the Sega Dreamcast Turbocharged, LOL.
Ya know?? I always said the same thing, XBOX was definitely a beefed up Dreamcast LOLZ!!!! The N.A. DC as you said, was the most successful launch in video game history. The crazy thing is, DC was the last real good system for fighting games. We were bombarded with fighting games back in those days, but now we're at a serious drought for fighters. Don't get me wrong we have fighters, but it seems to be more fps than fighters and other genres.
Ahh 1999 Great memories with the SEGA Dreamcast. I had pretty much the Greatest Games of the System at the time. The House of the Dead 2 (September 09, 1999) Hydro Thunder (September 09, 1999) Mortal Kombat Gold (September 09, 1999) Sonic Adventure (September 09, 1999) SoulCalibur (September 09, 1999) Marvel Vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes (September 30, 1999) SEGA Bass Fishing (September 30, 1999) NBA Showtime: NBA on NBC (October 31, 1999) Test Drive 6 (November 30, 1999) Zombie Revenge (December 31, 1999) My Favorite Gaming Console of 1999 and of all time
Markus Wright Me too. Sad that G4 had to close down. X-Play, Icons, and Attack of the Show were awesome! I knew it was going downhill when they started selling out and showing Cops, Jerry Springer, and Cheaters on G4. I wish a station would launch a channel strictly for games. Weird that there isn't , seeing how it's one of the biggest $ making industries.
ahhh man thanks for uploading this, it brought back alot of memories. I was 15 and a freshman in high school when the dreamcast was released, i remembered the hype sorrounding the console and how excited i was to see SEGA back in the game with a new console. I'll always have fond memories of the Dreamcast and the fun that I had playing some of the best games to be released for the system thank you for the memories SEGA.
(cont.) A similar case happened with Atari's 7800 in the mid to lare 80's. It sold more because of its backward compatibility to play Atari 2600 titles, which hurted its game library and accelerated its demise. By late 2001, the PS2's game library started to pick up beginning with GTA3, and by 2002-03 the PS2's game library really caught on. Also the initial PS2s were subject to disc-read failures, which happened to my first PS2. They disappeared when the slim PS2 models were released.
Just ordered a mint Complete in Box Sega dreamcast with Sonic Adventure, this will be my launch I never had for the dreamcast. Wish Sega still made some sort of hardware.......
Bought mine at launch! Was and still is my favorite console. The 360 and my Saturn come in a close second. I wish the Dreamcast could've survived longer and maybe garnered more 3rd party support. Some companies seemed to do lazy ports ( Tomb Raider the Last Revelation, Tomb Raider Chronicles), while Capcom really pushed the hardware. I did love Legacy of Kain though. Having support from EA would've helped a ton.
God I miss this show so much, I use to wake up at like 7am on Saturday morning just to catch it..... X-Play is nothing compared to this. I really want a torrent of all the episodes up until it became Extended Play.
Good point on the price of CD burners back then. But keep in mind back then the Internet connectors were as fast as today's servers. But now they're very slow, and probably won't even work because computer technology keeps on upgrading at a very fast rate.
i recently bought a dreamcast for 5 bux (talk about shitty sales lol) and it actually has graphics comparable to the Gamecube. the remote is actually quite comfortable also.
I got one for my birthday in March 2000. I loved it and all the games i had for it. Sad that it failed and kind of strange considering it had so many good games.
ahh good old days , House of the dead 2, Jet set Radio, Crazy Taxy, Resident Evil Code Veronica, Sonic, Marvel Vs Capcom 2, SeaMan, Shenmue, 18 Wheeler, etc. Cant wait till Dreamcast 2 aka Sega RingWave 2013.
The Playstation kicked Dreamcast's ass, as long as the Saturns, Gamecubes, and N64. And it wasnt the dreamcast that destroyed Sega, it was their previous add-ons: the SEGA CD, and 32X that weakened Sega, in addition to the failure of the Saturn. The Dreamcast wasn't shit. It was innovative, and ahead of its time, kind of like the Sega CD was. Dreamcast was great compared to XBOX, Nintendo 64 and GameCube.
I'm not sure how to say this, but i'll say it. You're actually right about one thing. Piracy wasn't as frequent as it is now, but even back then there was enough to contribute to the demise of the Dreamcast.
still better then xbox lol but man i love this back in the day as a kid this thing was awesome my grandmother got my a dreamcast and my mother and dad where gonna get the ps2 i was playing dreamcast more then ps2 lmao just the feel and style of the graphics and floatyness where awesome you dont have to have super special graphics just good fun games are enough and omg crazy taxi...... good times......
I can't wait for Christmas! I just KNOW my mom is going to buy me a Dreamcast! It looks SOOO COOL and it blows all other companies out of the water! Nothing is more fun than SONIC! POWER STONE! TOY COMMANDER! GO SEGA!
I've read some of that, as well. As much as I love Sega (c'mon now, they're responsible for a healthy chunk of my childhood fun), it still seems like their lack of success with the Saturn chipped away at their momentum in the console market. It's as if people back in '99 thought, "Sega? Weren't they responsible for the Saturn!?" Then turned their attention and wallets to Sony's upcoming console.
Hah, oh man. What an interesting and fun time that was. Dreamcast was on the horizon. the Gamecube was the "Dolphin", Playstation 2 was comin', Microsoft wasn't even considered... Love how Peter Moore totally abandoned ship, though. He jumped from Sega to Microsoft in 2002 I think it was.
Do you even own a deamcast? You can get the ROMS on the Internet, burn it on a blank CD, and it will play on a DC. It works on mine. PS2 had litle or noting to do with DC's end. Gamecube didn't have DVD player and it still went on. In fact the PS2 almost became a victim of its initial success cuz it sold more due to its DVD player rather than its game library. (cont.)
@ricarleite Money wise they weren't making enough to keep supporting it because of the losses from the saturn and 32X. It was a success in the hearts of gamers.
Dreamcast was definitely the best game system of all time as far as fun games go, and since Sega has dropped out of the console market, the only thing i have to look forward to is somebody emulating it on a hand held console
Your right, the wii U is meant to compete with the 360 and PS3, not the PS4 and the next Xbox. It's a whole generation behind and Nintendo might have to leave hardware. Wii U will fail in time.
@KUROGUY When the DC was released in the US in September 1999 (October 1999 in Europe), SEGA (in Japan) pulled the plug in January 2001, so about 15 months wasn't much of a lifespan in the US. But 6 months after the US release, the PS2 was released in Japan (March 2000), SEGA knew it was game over. Japan, then the US, then Europe went mad for the PS2, which to date, has sold around 150m units. I still prefer the DC though. Like the Saturn, it's more of a retro console.
As far as 3rd party game developers go, I can honestly say that Capcom had Sega's back to the very end.
+referral madness Really?? I didn't know that, shoot they did owe capcom a big thank you. I wish I could find a capcom vmu. How rare are they??
Capcom had so many great titles on the Dreamcast. Everything they released was gold. My favorites were Marvel vs. Capcom, Power Stone, Resident Evil CODE: Veronica, and Street Fighter Alpha 3.
+gedaman yes sir, they had one hell of a line up, Capcom VS. SNK, and SF3 were among the many capcom titles I liked as well.
Then Nintendo tried to steal Capcom for themselves, nobody wanted their GameCube exclusives and they went multi-console again. PS2 R4 > GameCube.
Clay3613 yes sir I remember that. I actually still own my special edition RE4 on my game cube, I purchased it back in January of 2005. I was still in the USMC, and I was in the barracks every day, playing that game.
Dreamcast is my favorite console ever. Still have it, still works. I haven't been so excited about a console as I was then.
Dreamcast - wayy ahead of its time, sega absolutely nailed it! Such a shame it sunk, but maybe if it didnt we wouldnt be looking at it so fondly now!
That Killer launch was also one of the dreamcast's biggest problems.
After they pretty much played all there cards at launch in terms of software, they had no strategy for long term other than Shenmue.
0:56 always pissed me off when my friends put the disc in like that.
twopercento lol
Ahahahah ok same🤣🤣
I got a Dreamcast in 2001. I knew it was in hot water even as a little kid because its games were in a small rack in the middle of gamestop when the other games were lined up on the wall
Mr Eighty Yeah. The Saturn debacle really left retailers not trusting Sega.
I never had a dreamcast but I'm seriously thinking about picking one up
Did you pick one up?
I hope you’ve done it my good sir, it truly is a beauty of a system!
I cant wait to buy it ! This thing is going to be a hit.
Peter Moore use to work for Sega and Adam Sessler worked for Gamespot? Cannot believe I just found this out, also Peter Moore still looks the same.

gedaman I agree
BoyBlaze2002 Call of Duty is killing the video game industry. Same shit every year.

I MISS SEPTEMBER 9, 1999 - SEPTEMBER 10, 2001 D:
That is the time I miss.
Holy shit do I miss the 90's
Because your life sucks now. The 90's were great, the 2000's are even better.
I miss the 00s
It's so hard to remember when Gamespot had integrity and relevance even when I'm seeing it with my own eyes!
+Markus Wright I used to spend hours watching G4 when it was a gaming channel. Especially during the week of E3
Markus Wright Me too. Sad that G4 had to close down. X-Play, Icons, and Attack of the Show were awesome! Dreamcast
Young Adam sessler wtf?
This is november 1999, right? I was 17 back then. I remember when it was launched. DAMN I wanted it. Little did I know it was Sega's last flop.
I can't believe it's been 20 years (in 2 days) since the Dreamcast launch! 9.9.99 - 9.9.2019
Oh man I remember I was like 10 when the dreamcast came out and we got it for Christmas, one of the best breaks ever.
Best console ever made.
Watching in 2021 and still love the Dreamcast!!!
Even today, Dreamcast looks awesome.
I bought my Dreamcast at launch. Had a blast with it.. for about a year.
I REMEMBER SEEING THIS ON TV AS SOON AS MY DAD BOUGHT THE DREAMCAST IN '99. I WAS 2 LOL
madness oof I was 2 days old when the dreamcast was released
referral madness still got it to this day lmao I play it when I got nothin else to do
Thrilli99 it’s pretty legendary and they’re dumb cheap now lol if you have the time and money you should get one

When people quickly figured out how easily games could be burned, that was the shot in the head.
1:05 - 1:09
Predicts exactly what happened with the dreamcast and segs
specifically the explosion
man, this is some holy grail type ish. i miss these days...u had to have a certain kinda cable or satellite to watch zd/techtv..I
What a nice throwback. But I didn't know Adam worked for GS.

Sessler and Gerstmann make a great team.

I WISH IT WAS 1999 AGAIN, ONLY WITH THE SAME BRAIN THAT I HAVE RIGHT NOW! XD
Good point on the price of CD burners back then. But keep in mind back then the Internet connectors were as fast as today's servers. But now they're very slow, and probably won't even work because computer technology keeps on upgrading at a very fast rate.

I was the only person in my city with a Dreamcast it was glorious.
Adam Sessler with hair wow
yeah but he was clearly losing his hair then too
Was he on the coke back then?

@mariojuggernaut22 Yeah,it changed to the red dot of death.

Derek Weselake I got mine 2 weeks ago. I can't stop playing shenmue

That's pretty brutal, guess people would go out of their way to do that sort of thing back then.
@jerzy862 yes she is
Poor Peter Moore :o( He really got shafted on this deal.
Do you even own a deamcast? You can get the ROMS on the Internet, burn it on a blank CD, and it will play on a DC. It works on mine.

Is that website poll still up? I'd like a Dreamcast. Lol.
Heck, assuming the website is still around lol.
Gerstmann rockin the Fubu
I have a Japanese Dreamcast =D
favorite system
Dreamcast was definitely the best game system of all time as far as fun games go, and since Sega has dropped out of the console market, the only thing i have to look forward to is somebody emulating it on a hand held console
is sega evne still around far as i know the only players in the market are sony, microsoft and nintendo for consoles
Dreamcast was a great system it just had bad timing at that time with the ps2 about to be released
There was a short period where Sega dreamcast was the greatest console on the planet
Your right, the wii U is meant to compete with the 360 and PS3, not the PS4 and the next Xbox. It's a whole generation behind and Nintendo might have to leave hardware. Wii U will fail in time.
Fubu jerseys will make a comeback, just like snap-backs
OMG I cant w8 for this!
0:57 did this dude seriously just hold a game disc that way?
@BKVisionFreePerView yes ZDTV then it was changed to Tech Tv then G4TechTv then the horrible G4
Lol will it take the lead in the console wars that was a good one
