    In case no one has warned you yet Jay, that glow in the dark filament will rapidly erode the nozzle on your printer if it's a standard brass or even worse copper. Hardened steel will last longer with it. Glow in the dark is VERY abrasive. Keep an eye on the nozzle (keep a spare new nozzle to check against), both the tip and the hole.

      TBH i doute Jay reads comments for the Maker commuinty. there is one point he missed ...PLA is not the filament i woud go with. It Cheap but due to it's glass temp being near 60 C it could melt and be more bad then good. I would use PETG or ABS. PETG and ABS have a higher glass temp and would do a better job of standing up and would not break as easy too.

    I don’t actually have an issue with this. If you’re never gonna have another card populating the other pcie slots, this product will cover up any wiring and empty slots at the bottom of the case. I definitely understand that it’s a very niche use case, but there are some that may be able to benefit from this. HOWEVER, price is a huge factor, and at $99, it’s way to expensive for a piece of acrylic and metal that light up.

      @HectaSpyrit 2 года назад +1

      @@khaoticpenguin3945 Well not including chargers with every new device does make a lot of sense. Given how often people replace their devices, especially phones, it's very likely that they already own at least one charger, if not multiple ones. Excluding them from packaging saves most customers the cost of a charger that they already have, and it means one less electronic device that will end up as e-waste at the end of its life.
      I don't know how Apple does it since they always do their own thing, but I'd be surprised if the charging port changes with every new iPhone. As far as I know they've been using lightning for a while. As for other brands, almost all of them use either micro-USB or USB-C for charging, both of which are so ubiquitous that most people already own many cables, and probably a few charging bricks.
      Finally, even if you don't own a charger and have to buy one separately, it's not gonna cost you much more than if it was included with your device, because the price of the bundle would include the price of the charger.

    In the case of some of those cards, the PLA spacer appears to be in direct contact with a heatpipe. While one of those heatpipes will never reach nozzle temperature where PLA melts, it could potentially achieve the bed temp under load (depending on what that heatpipe goes to). This could cause the part to warp, or the heatpipe to embed in the part. This probably wouldn't be an issue on all cards, but could be for some. This could obviously be fixed by using a more temperature resistant plastic, or metal like you showed before with the case brackets. Great video!
    I think there is room for a v3 design, where you cut the center out of a case bracket, and use it as a frame. Then make different thicknesses of plexi shims and edge light them. You could even laser etch logos or your name on the plexi for a custom illuminated label visible from the back of the case.

Printing that thicker may help, but I'd rotate it 90 degrees in the slicer (so it looks like the letter " L " if you look straight down on it on the build plate,) and print it like that. That will for sure solve the cracking problem. Turning up the hot end temperature a couple degrees might also help with layer adhesion, but that looks like a decent print. I remember one of your older anti gpu sag vids titled: How to fix video card sag FOR FREE! back in December 2017, it's a different method, using screws behind the motherboard tray and focusing on the top most finger of the gpu i/o plate.
    I guess not all cases nowadays have access to that slit so this newer alternative using the shims may be more applicable to more people.

  • @the_bishop
    @the_bishop 2 года назад +10

    Not crazy about the idea of introducing a lateral load to the cooler that it's not meant to support by jamming shims in there.
    The main issue is that the cards are getting longer and heavier, and the architecture they're plugging into was never designed to handle that sort of weight. It's a flat plane supported on two (more like 1 and 1/2) adjacent sides. It can't help but to sag unless you support the opposite corner. Stacking spacers under the rear case mount doesn't fix the sag, it just 'pre cocks' the board so it doesn't visually look like it's sagging when the case is standing up.

    • @salmon_wine
      @salmon_wine 2 года назад +5

      exactly. This is why the slot-bracket design is very ineffective versus the free standing gpu sag bracket which by far fixes the issue best. I paid $20 for a vertical argb gpu bracket from vetroo- and it's good enough at it's job that i initially had it set too high, and was bending the card in the opposite direction as the sag!

    • @usefulidiot21
      @usefulidiot21 2 года назад

      I don't think that's introducing a lateral load to the cooler by jamming shims in there. That lateral load already exists and the shims just slightly change the angle of it (by making the card perpendicular to the motherboard, instead of it sagging in a corner). So, as long as your case isn't being moved around, this would be fine since it removes the bend from the PCIe connector, which seems to be the most important part of removing sag (the metal reinforced PCIe connectors are definitely strong enough to handle this). Either way, I still have a metal bracket that supports the far corner of my 3080 from sagging, but I wouldn't be opposed to this solution.

    One thing I find that helps with keeping clear acrylic, well, clear: put on a coat of automotive ceramic spray wax. It'll last for a while, especially in an indoor environment, gives great protection against light scratches, easy as hell to clean (water beads and slides right off), prevents dust from sticking, and it makes the surface super clear and super slick to the touch. They are relatively affordable and easy to apply as well. And they are safe on all surfaces, be it metal, plastic, rubber, glass, and silicon. I would still be wary of spraying directly onto any electronics, though.
    I personally use Turtle Wax's Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Spray Wax. I really love their tropical mango smell. I also tried out Meguiar's Ceramic Spray Wax. It's ok but the cotton candy sweet smell tends to be quite strong for me and the milky consistency makes it more prone to leaving a residue behind. You can still wipe it off with a damp microfiber towel but it can get rather annoying trying to chase them down.

    I bought a little pillar that you put under the corner of the graphics card to keep it from sagging, pure chrome , fully adjustable and doesn't take a lot of room. $10 and works great

    Simple fix: Cut a stick to the right length and put it under the sagging end of the GPU to hold it up. Zero cost.

    Other than using PLA on a location that might become a lot warmer than like 40-50 degree C, Jay's solution is 100 times better than what manufacturers come with. And should also cost next to nothing if they just fixed the issue in their designs to begin with.
    Like building a car with a big Dodge Demon engine, and then use a drift shaft from a 90 HP civic and then wonder why things break.

    I went from an Asus phoenix 3060v2 (single fan, small form factor) to an Evga 3080 ftw3 and this video helped so much, that card is a behemoth in comparison strangely enough the small 1/2 sized 3060 had excellent support at the rear as well as the side where it has a spot to attach directly to the board even though it is perfect at the back and not heavy enough to sag in the 1st place, wish all cards were like that or at least offered a version of it.

    Hope you using hardened nozzles on your printers for the glow in the dark filament. That stuff is abrasive and eats through regular brass nozzles over time
