Lie Ren Where are people getting the idea that Nier was some form of exclusive ? I have been seeing this everywhere since it was announced its coming to Xbox. Nier was always marketed as a multiplat and released on PC and PS4 on the same day.

Xbox owners better purchase this game! Not because the game is amazing and definitely must be played (make sure to complete the 5 main routes!) But also to show that Japanese RPG can infact do well on the Xbox so that more Japanese games comes to the Xbox.

End of the day, I loved every single minute of this game on PS4, earning the Platinum Trophy without shortcuts. Had zero issues with the graphics of the game, so no matter how much it falls short of a ‘true 4K’, it’ll still look phenomenal and better than my first play through. Cannot wait to replay this masterpiece in a few days. 😭❤️
I still haven't played this game even tho I have it for my pro. Is it just me or does anyone elses PS4 Pro turn into a literal jet while playing Automata? More so than any other game I've played.
I hate my ps4 so I leave it at work and one of the guys got the sound to calm down a bit by cleaning something. Street fighter V used to make it scream

HDR support seems like a bigger addition than the resolution bump. I can already think of a few scenes that will look amazing on an OLED if it's implemented well. That boss fight in the pitch black room for starters.

Jerry Sprunger don't get me wrong...I don't hate xbox one but it's gonna look and play subpar on TV..one x is the way to go..I recently sold my xbox one and bought one x and iam pretty happy that I did that...you may be disappointed if you play this game on one,'cause I know how horrible this game runs on ps4

This NEEDS a physical release!!!
Physical release on this generation is a placebo effect, they almost aways requare patch downloads, to play it fine. At the day by the console's servers shut down, the physical games will be only a pretty empty box.

Raphael Robinson I think he meant that the gameplay is good and smooth. "it looks good, plays even better". Not necessarily saying it plays better on the X. Just as an action game. The same can be said about Bayonetta, DMC3/4, Ninja Gaiden etc. He is basically complimenting the game, not the hardware. Nier automata looks good when you look up videos of it but when you play it and pull off insanity combos yourself, it's an entirely different beast. That's what he meant.

Got it running constant 4K 60fps on a RTX 2080 with everything maxed out except AA. The FAR mod is amazing now.
Yeah and we get reshade mod and texture packs too also naiom mod for customizing controls
one of my favorite games of all time. its a perfect marriage of Final Fantasy and Bayonetta IMO, which are also two of my favorite games OAT. I've owned the PC port since lauch, and sure, the lauch version of neir was pretty hard to run, but the far mod patch made things much more playable. its readily available on the steam page and easy to install. i run this game at a solid 60 fps on max settings at 4k on my 6700k and 1080TI,. it may dip into the usual 45-55 range during hectic battles, but its still smooth. if this game hits steam summer sale (and i'm sure it will) do yourself the favor of checking it out.

Before watching: I wouldn't bet on it. Knowing it's optimization a native 4k is nier-ly impossible.
P.S. I was right. Twice the resolution of the PS4Pro version, huh, impressive.
From what I heard, for the PC version, you also want to turn off AA if you have ambient occlusion on to help performance. Apparently ambient occlusion does its own AA proccessing.
Really looking forward to this game, I'll be supporting Platinum Games as always :)

Shadows looks like they're lower resolution on Xbox One X, did they make the game running lower settings in order to play at 1920x2160 ?
Can someone tell me why I can’t find any gameplay from the standard Xbox One? Is it only for the Xbox One X? Because that isn’t made clear on the store page.
I freaking loved every minute of this game its actually the first game i have almost 100% on my ps4 pro i just traded it in but i might give it a third playthrough for the one X for the 4k and hdr it was definitely still a good looking game at 1080p and i never really noticed the low frame rates.
wow Square Enix . . . still no fix & patches for PC & PS4 versions, still no better textures in some locations, & have the odacity (sorry: audacity) to milk this game to other platform . . .
For heaven's sake, just give a small budgets to Yoko Taro & PG for supports instead keep wasting it in endless FF games developments like FFVIIR & FFXV that totally lost to this "black horse" title.

and in which position you would put pc with high quality settings? i use this conf and sometimes in boss battles my fps drops to like 50

And here we are in 2021, more than 2 months after the XBOX SERIES launch, without many new games to analyze, and digital foundry has not yet fully analyzed Nier Automata; which is one of John's favorite games...

Lolwut? Played Nier on PC a month ago with the Far mod fix. No problems whatsoever.
Pc has a hd texture pack tho
There isn't going to be a patch for the broken PC port.
Japanese port on PC. Patches doesn't exist in that country apparently. Also capped framerate sucks in any game, especially in fast paced action games like this

And so are the console versions. Neither consoles can lock 60 FPS in this game.
The game itself is not optimized so there must be a lot if issues with it "under the hood"
Didn't have any problems on my old fx8350 and rx480. Stable 60FPS on max settings.

I play on pro/PC but its good to see that Yoko Taro and his team will be getting more money that they can put into making more amazing games.
Shame they never did the followup to this video. Would have been quite interested in seeing how the XO S holds up and gotten more info on the XOX reconstruction technique as well as its reportedly fake HDR implementation.

Metal gear rising is not a great port, it's functional, but barebone to say the least
As for Bayonetta and vanquish, they're fine but nothing too impressive. Great ports on PC for lastgen games are kinda plenty
Immense Data metal gear rising won't even let you run above 1080p without a mod to inject a higher resolution lol.
JForce I have a 1080p monitor so I never had issues, and it ran well back when I had a GTX 465. Get a mod if you want a higher res, I reckon it's not hard to find and install.

If console guys are so intent on counting pixels, then why not invest in a good PC? I see this all the time. Console guys are bragging about the power of their respective platforms, Then a PC guy comes in and states the obvious and everyone spits fire at him/her. My point is if you care this much about graphics, then get a PC... Especially the guys on Xbox. Also I am not a PC gamer.
king Dione because you aren't getting a machine that plays xbox one , 360, original xbox games , a cloud service , a bluray player , a live service and even 1080p for $500 on any PC . Plus it's easier to deal with a console , I can take it to work , move it from one room to another and it takes up very little space . A PC only has better graphics for a huge premium . My $2100 PC from 2013 cant play games like gears of war 4 better than the xbox one x . Even if you count my xbox one , s and x it's still less money than my PC was and at least I have 3 xboxes. My friends all play at my house as does my son . PC is a poor investment actually. Oh , yeah , I also get a full warranty on my xbox .

uh i thought i would like to just put it out there that this is one of the best games this generation lol. Despite the lack of photorealistic textures, the game has amazing art direction and some of the best music in gaming history. Platinum games, the devs behind Nier have pumped out numerous incredible action games these past 7 years. Lets hope they keep it up. They are well on their way to making hall of fame

Platinum has always had serious optimization issues that really take away from the games. I absolutely adore this studio and all of their titles, but whoo boy they're hard to play some times, especially in Automata when there are guaranteed chugs in weird areas.

On top of the massive list of backwards compatible games if barely say Xbox has no exclusives. And now a growing number of Japanese developers starting to port their games over to Xbox as well.

I built a mini itx PC to use in my living room with a R5 1400 and GTX 960 about 2 months ago. I'm currently playing through Nier Automata again on it and holy crap is it hard to get 60fps at 1080p. Even with the FAR mod installed and turning global illumination down to low it still runs pretty bad. I was surprised because my main rig has a R9 390 and I wasn't even using the FAR mod but it ran it so much better (although still not great) at 1080p.
Any chance you'll analyze the og xbox version?

From my experience, performance is quite poor in the large open City ruins area. I notice quite a lot of stuttering there, on the One X. How does the game perform in City ruins on the other consoles I wonder?

Game with the most expensive global illumination implementaion.
All it amounts to is just basic 3D fog with foreground scenes looking flat and last gen.
Marcelo Henrique Soares da Silva Global Illumination is used to bounce light around nearby objects (green cloth with sunlight on it will make the shadowed white wall next to it green) however in this game its hard to see any of that effect and it mostly seems it just amounts to fog and basic lighting, which is why I bash it because it's an expensive effect that's in this game for no reason

But in all seriousness... I would like an official PC 4K60 patch done. And done right But FAR mod makes this game very playable at 4K60. I also had to wait an entire 2 days for the cutscenes to be re-rendered or converted into 60fps with the help of another mod tool.

Better optimized, yet they run worse and you can't change that.
And yet they run worse 99% of the time.
That's not true actually, it depends on the developer really. I mean if you are talking about someone like say Naughty Dog (who is a first party developer and will only release on PlayStation hardware) they do a great got at optimizing their games and getting the most of the hardware that they are using. Then look at Nintendo and their games same, this happens since they pretty much only have to worry about one piece of hardware at a time (two at most in some cases). But when it comes to third party devs it's a lot different, also it depends on the game engine alot as well, I mean look at Cry Engine, games like Kingdom Come Dileverance (or what ever it's called) is way better optimized for PC than consoles. CDPR games are games that will also always be way better optimized for PC than for consoles (in that cases it's because PC gaming is CDPR's bread and butter), same with Blizzard.
Now originally Nier was going to be a PC exclusive and not only that the whole reason that Platinum was even hired to do this game was because of their experience with "PC" and how their engine should not have too much issue making a PC only game, and as we would see later on after the official reveal of Nier Automata, Platinum games rull really well on PC (Bayonetta and Vanquish). Ya but for some reason something must have gone wrong with the "base" of the game resulting in an unoptimized game bot only that but I hear that Platinum games themselves didn't even do the PC port and that some other company did.
