Never have I ever heard of going longer without a retwist will damage the roots . If anything retwisting too often and too tight causes the damage . 4 weeks isn’t enough rest time .
Everyone's loc journey is so different. For me, retwisting every 4-6 weeks ruined my locs due to over styling/retwisting. The "rest" period in between retwisting helped to rejuvenate my roots. I agree with the styling at every retwist can become a habit and I now regret it, some 17 years later. As I say, this is personal to me.
I got a retwist and it didn't even last a few days. It was my first retwist I didn't get a style . I didn't bother getting another style now I am two months into my loc journey. I just let my locs do what they are supposed to do. I am loving my journey. Your video was very educational. I am new to locs thanks for all the information.
This is my fourth loc journey and I’ve never gotten a retwist. There’s a whole group of people who Freeform or semi Freeform. I separate my locs and wrap any loose hairs back into my locs. The whole point for me getting locs was to not have to keep manipulating my hair. Retwists are not necessary IMO. I’ve never liked the aesthetic for myself of tightly twisted roots. Definitely do whatever works for your hair but so many people don’t retwist, braid loose hair into loc or even maintain with crotchet. Just saying there’s other healthy options.
Unrealistic expectation (for me): going two whole months without retwisting my hair🙄 omg I tried that for a few months and now I’m noticing one of my locs trying to get thin at the base. THAT’S A BIGG NO-NO FOR ME. Especially since I’m trying to stay away from crocheting my locs, having them just brake off and fall out, AND being pulled to tight. I don’t have sister locs, but they are a mix of micro, small, and smedium because of my hair texture. LONG STORY SHORT: I’m going to stick with retwists every other month lmao😂
Exactly cause i have lumps and bumps in my locs it's crazy my locs have formed in butterfly locs in the back of my head im 8 months in ❤️❤️❤️ great info
I’ve had my starter locs for 14 weeks and luckily I already had my expectations set. I started from a shaved head to 3 months of growth and I feel like that has helped. My style is basically a part of the right and “das it” 😂
Retwists are important if you want the neater loc look or to preserve the parts you have. But if your retwists don't last the full 6 weeks, don't freak out either and retwist every week. I like the suggestion to wait to retwist when your hair starts sticking together so you can avoid over retwisting and also be sure to keep those parts if you want them. They will loc either way, but how you manipulate it can guide your hair to loc a certain way.
Wow 😯.. I should’ve watched this before taking them all down 🤦🏾♀️. I wanted my hair done wet as always have never used blow dryer until install of braidlocs thick/long/curly then washed, neck length, 4 months my bang was so short all over my head couldn’t style, look like helmet, bowl 🥣 etc., so frustrating I cried 😢 jus TRAGIC end result took ALL 341 tiny braids out 🤷🏾♀️ took 4 days bcuz I was determined. I’m going to wash and do my grid when adapter/cable come in today and THK U for video to see back of head 🤗. I’m going to nourish my hair using same grid and decide by 1/24 if I’m going to Loc after wash/retwist 🤞🏾
Hello and thanks for sharing. I am 9 months into my loc journey. I started with two strand twists. My hair is very soft and so I interlock because for me it lasts longer due to fitness. I was told that I should do both so that the frizz is controlled. I am due for a re-twist and do not think that my re-twist will last any advice would be appreciated.
It was so freeing to accept that fact that my locs won’t all be the same size. I was SO obsessed with that, but now I’m embracing the uniqueness of it ❤ Don’t let Pinterest make you wish your locs away
That’s something I do remind my clients of. Density and texture will have your locs looking wayyyy different than someone else’s. I compared my hair so much to others with my first set
Hello, I’m 2 1/2 months into my journey with short hair. When you spoke about the lumps in your locs that can be the shape of your locs in the long run are talking the bulbs or budding that occurs at the beginning?
Já tem um bom tempo que eu quero fazer meus locs mais não entendo muito sobre, o Retwist é melhor que o twist para iniciar os locs e qual produto usar pra torcer o cabelo?
Never going to bed with wet hair !! Because if you go to bed with wet/damp hair then lay down, they can get flat. And like she said not going too long without a retwist unless you’re free forming

It only damages it if your hair grows away from the loc!
Girl look at that loc over the shoulder baby lmao. The growth. So beautiful 😍 much love beautiful

So glad to hear what you said about spacing out retwists. It's almost like a badge of honor to space them out but I just can't do it.
It can definitely be hard! I felt that the more my hair locd up the more comfortable I felt spacing out my retwists
@DESZREN I plan to try again when they gain a little weight but so far I haven't been successful at waiting.

That last part tho!!! My hair has shrank sooo much and my locs won't lay down all the time. Waiting for the growth phase now. Thanks for the info! 😊
This was so helpful. I’m 13 months loc’d and my hair is always changing
Yes!!! Your locs will look different even years down the road

That’s so cool to me!!! The lumps and bumps make our locs unique 🥰
You basically told me to stop being lazy and go retwist😭🖤
“Smell yer BONNET” 😂😂😂
Y’all remember this doesn’t count for semi freeform or freeform hair !!
Congratulations on cosmetology school! 🥳

wanting all your locs to be the same size is similar to a mother wanting all her children to be the same weight, same height...good luck!
Guess I will get a detox scheduled soon!! 2 years, 5months without one.

Hello Deszren, do you have a tutorial on starting the goddess locs

Wish I could have you do my starter loc's. I plan to start my journey soon!!
One thing I used to expect is that my hair will look like others who have more locs than me. I am only 1 month locked.

Thanks so much getting my first coils tomorrow, a bit nervous 😩 this helped a lot

This was so helpful ✨! What would you recommend we do to prevent flat locs? I’m a month in and I’d like to try to avoid that happening if I can.
