Is one better in a northern climate that gets alot of heating and cooling? Im in Virginia and we get freezes throughout winter but then 90+ in summer? I had a kool deck in florida but we never dealt with the freezing temps. Both are pricey so im looking for longevity.
Both products are extremely durable and flexible, so they should be able to handle a wide range of temperatures and climates As long as everything is installed properly you shouldn't have any problems when it comes to temperature.
Location might be the bigger factor in deciding between the two products. Polyurea can be tricky to install around a pool due to the higher moisture levels, and it if isn't installed correctly then you will have some issues with the coating.
Kool Deck's are more concrete based and can handle the moisture.
Make sure to ask the companies about Moisture and Slip Resistance when deciding what type of coating to use. If you are just looking for a garage floor coating you can't go wrong with a polyurea coating!

How do the two compare to heat on the feet? Kool deck is known for staying cool even in 100F weather. How does Penntek compare?
That's a great question. A Penntek coating can absorb the heat better than concrete so it won't be as hot as concrete that is not coated. But Penntek does not have any additives like Kool Deck to keep the concrete cooler.
I'm in Phoenix we get to 117-118F every summer here last year it was 115F-119 for over 35 days straight when I had cool decking you could walk on it bear foot after 10 hours of straight sun at 115f heat. Can't say if Penntek can do that or not unlikely. I was talked into acrylic lace was told it was as cool as Kool Deck which was a lie some cheap junk sprayed on with a texture gun I didn't know any better it was back in 2007. Now I have to replace it all ill be going with Mortex Kool decking again. If you can find a pool contractor has the decking your looking at go there in the summer walk on it barefoot.
