Yoko was really something special. He could wrestle long matches despite his size, and was really athletic for his size. He was amazing. I wish he could have kept himself under control and lived longer. He was truly unique.
Yoko was not just a big man/massive eater he was a heavy partier...Apparently he'd drink and do pain pills well into the night...And it was just too much combined for his heart to stand...
I remember when yoko passed away the following Monday night raw the undertaker during his biker days wore a yoko t shirt & even gestured to it, I think that was the only time he somewhat broke kayfabe, but just shows his friendship & respect-pals
It was just a wow moment, I was a teenager at the time & still thought wrestling was 100% real, why would he be wearing his old foes shirt? Learning about their BSK group was cool, they were buddies
Bret Hart always said that he would work a hundred matches with Yokozuna and then be willing to work a hundred more. He said that Yoko was always safe in the ring dispite his size, knew all the spots to do and always was a gentleman outside the ring. While his health and weight was always a concern, Yolo always brought his A-game. Sad that he had to play a Japanese villian, dispite the fact that in real life he was a sweet-natured Samoan.
Sorry, but the casket segment was AWESOME. Listen to how wild the crowd gets when the gong sounds and we see the Undertaker vow revenge before ascending to the heavens like a god. That entire segment was sensationally theatrical. Smart marks like Meltzer and Conrad hate it because they have no idea what the mass market enjoys. We KNOW it's a work dummies, we want to see pageantry and drama, not two guys kicking out of each other's finishing moves for an hour while the commentators try to convince us it's a 'sport'.
That casket match at RR'94 was one of their better televised matches. Good pacing, spots, and some snug work on the outside. There's a guy in the front row who loses his sh*t when he hears the sound of the chair smashing into Undertaker's head. Definitely one of those "Holy sh*t, this stuff IS real!" moments. The theatrics that followed were fantastic. Wrestling, regardless of what style it's presented, is a form of live theater. That segment delivered an unforgettable moment.
You guys are crazy!!! Yoko vs taker casket match was one of the most memorable matches all time. It was the first time you thought Taker was really supernatural. Great match!!!
Fuck that noise, I loved that casket match especially as a kid. Undertaker holding off the heel lockerroom for what felt like ten minutes until finally getting overwhelmed is something you'd go "bullshit" with any other guy but because it's the seemingly invincible undead mortician you believe it as it's happening.
Think about how much Yoko and Taker have done for Vince McMahon. Undertaker is the greatest character and the most loyal professional wrestler, Yokozuna was money when the business didn't see much at the time. Not to mention he comes from the most talented family in the business
He does indeed come from a great family that would surpass even the Hart's or the Von Eric's. They've probably had more generations in the wrestling business than any other family. I could be wrong but none come to mind.
I saw these guys at a house show in Pittsburgh years ago, it was one of the best matches I ever saw in person. It sounded bad on paper with two big slow guys, but Undertaker in the match started to show some of his actual athleticism that he often hid while in character and was moving as fast as anyone else in the WWF at the time. At one point he flip around Yoko and landed a neckbreaker and then just sat straight up like only Taker can. Ended in a DQ I think (always did at shows), but still a great match and I'll never forget it.
I like that story about Yoko chowing Turkey tails at Takers house with mayonnaise on them. Jim Ross was witness. EDIT- it seems this is a repeat of that now that I listen.

I always loved that casket match. I was only like 12 but there was no eye rolling from me. It made the undertaker look tough as nails and set up his rise from the dead. He's the undertaker, it's not really meant to be traditional 'pro wrestling'. As I recall, Vince didn't want him as champion for that very reason, which I always disagreed with.
Yea it was ok, but reviews shit on it. But as a child or teen or hell even early 20s its cool to see all those wrestlers do their finish and then casket him. Storyline it was great for the character era bc there was no way taker was goin down. It took all them to close the lid lol

This was one of my most memorable childhood events lmao... sorry boys but Taker seemed unstoppable. The whole thing was over the top but extremely mystical to my 12 year old self. All this after a solid match between the two titans. Guys sometimes you let your scrutiny interfere with actual the fans experience. I remember the crowd eating this up too. Go back and watch
Idk what Conrad and JR were both looking for in that casket match. You might want to let us know why you didn’t like the match at all next time. I LOVED the casket match. I disagree with those two. The pop Taker got as he ascended to the rafters after he got beat up by the Heels should have told you what the fans thought and wanted. I thought it was a real good match from beginning to end. The undertaker is my favorite wrestler. I highly recommend that match. The tech guys were using some technology ahead of it’s time towards the end of the match. For 1995 that was good.
Yep I missed those old survivor series matches where the seeds would be planted in the weekly shows and the four would all have beef with another four. Old school survivor series and WCW War Games was my two all time favorites
My Uncle's Wet to see a house show Match back in 1993 or i think in1994 Yokozuna vs Undertaker They said they saw yokozuna did a 360 Live in person in LA At A House Show after Undertaker give yokzuna a closeline
What an amazing story. I heard Rodney struggled with depression and obviously he had a weight, problem but you would never know it watching him in the ring. I wonder if his weight problem was the result of his depression or the cause of it or did one have anything to do with the other? Anyway, I'm glad he and the Undertaker were close friends. I'm sure they were both better off for it.
Looking back on it Yokozuna may be just as vital in me becoming a fan as Bret Hart. As much as I loved Bret, I was terrified yoko was going to kill him. He was awesome.
I'm sure I'm overlooking something. But you would think that a match between two guys who liked each other. Would naturally be better than one between guys who....let's just say guys who weren't fans of each other. Ive heard other wrestlers. Big men especially. Just rave about how willing he is to teach. This was only true when he was very young. His health declined really fast.
And he was just a good man minus the gimmick.
@@MnMs002 They all did this. He wasn't an exception
Bret Hart said Yoko was great to wrestle because he took care of his opponents and didnt hurt them which is unusual for a large guy.
