  • Hello Everyone,
    - - lots of whistling in this one for you headphone users - -
Today we take a look back in time to long before LMM was even a twinkle in Lawrie's eye - but he was very much still going and filming things (poorly)
The footage in this video covers 4 years of the Wolsztyn Parade with a fleet of huge locomotives hurtling past - so enjoy.

Great video Lawrie. As a guy from Czechia I´m sad to see all of our engines that made an appearance in this video are not in working condition right now. The CSD 477.043 needs a new boiler. CSD 475.101 had an overhaul but didnt run since. CSD 534.0432 need a new boiler as well. CSD 464.008 is in a overhaul for 3 years now. CSD 498.104 is in Slovakia and it has a fault on the boiler. And last the CSD 475.179 need a new boiler after it cracking while running a charter train 2 years ago. CSD means Czechoslovak State Railways btw.

Glad I fell upon your video. It reminded me of a trip I took from Canada in 1990 to visit my sister who was teaching in the mountains of southern Pɔland. Although most of mainline runs were electrified, I did witness steam running in smaller towns and on switching duties in Warsaw and Cracow. Thank you, I really enjoyed the memories.

My god those whistles sound terrible. I mean no disrespect to the people who own those locomotives, but they sound horrible with those single-chime whistles. If you ask me, I personally think that every locomotive in this video deserves either a deep-toned hooter or a nice, good sounding chime whistle.

And what’s worse is how discordant they sound. Those shrill single chime whistles just sound horrible. I don’t see why European railways never adopted chime whistles like the ones in the United States and many countries in the Pacific. They sound way more musical and are way easier on the ears than the hideous-sounding single chimes in this video.
