    The throw to Warren (drop) vs. Purdue was a thing of beauty. NFL caliber throw into a tight window.

    I have a feeling the Allar to Liam connection is going to be fruitful this fall. A bigger athletic slot guy is what we've been missing and it appears there's a connection already in place.

    I am super excited for the fall!!! I am going to keep telling everyone, we are going to be very good, I am not scared of anyone on the schedule!!! Ohio State on the road, will show how good we are, but Michigan in Happy Valley in November, I am not worried, literally!!!! WE ARE

    Love the videos every time. I’m glad you pointed out the “sailing”. Even in his twitter videos with his personal coach you can see him drilling footwork and rotation. But when he misses it always just a bit high.
    I also sat just above the PSU bench on the 35 yard line @ Purdue. I lost my freaking mind.

    Awesome, awesome stuff. A few thoughts. First, I 100 percent would have thrown an INT on that Michigan play. Kid clearly has serious smarts. Second, not necessarily surprising that his under-center footwork (particularly on PA) isn't great -- I don't know that he ran anything but gun in HS, right? That strikes me as a very easy fix. Third, do we think there is any chance that he picks up a couple of steps in the off-season? First full year in S/T, and I just have a feeling he is going to be leaner and quicker. Probably never as fast as Cliff, but he is also an absolute load. Finally, do we think that the sailing of the ball (and that is most of his misses, IIRC) are fixed with footwork? I am so scarred by Hack's poor accuracy that I just am hoping it is a matter of working at it.

  • @rvbball1
    @rvbball1 Год назад

    The crappy thing is, like you said his inconsistent footwork can be worked on, but in the blue-white game and in the open practice he had the same issues. Hoping he was able to keep working on that.

    I would wait before I say accuracy is a strength. Hopefully it is. In a small sample size he made some great throws and some wild throws way off target, and many simple short throws like a 5-10 yd out.

    • @ForTheBlogy
      @ForTheBlogy  Год назад +2

      We're OK with it. Yes, as we showed, he does miss the occasional layup because he sometimes colors outside the lines mechanically (an issue we think he will clean up this year)...so you're right there. But his ability to fit balls in tight windows -- either with touch or velocity -- is special. In fact, his PFF "Big-Time Throw" rate was higher than Clifford's last season despite throwing to backup WRs.

      His Accuracy this season will be better than Sean’s best season and McSorley’s. I bet he completes 65+% of his passes which would mean accuracy is a strength

    • @LordBuckhouse
      @LordBuckhouse Год назад

      As he FULLY settles in this coming season he will relax more and there will be fewer of those “layup” misses. I think a lot of that is just gaining more experience and with that comes more poise, better mechanics and more consistency. In game reps, reps and more reps will help a lot. Will he still miss some “layup” throws. Yep, they all do but he will do it less often.

      @@LordBuckhouse yea I believe a lot of those misses are him second guessing whether or not he should be making the throw which look, that’s understandable for a Freshy

    Great breakdown as always loved the video. So we see he has the potential to be an elite qb physically but when you listen to reports saying he is extremely quiet does that concern you at all? That's a big change in leadership style compared to Sean Clifford who was fiery and passionate. I know everyone leads in different ways but just a question to throw out there.

    First, thanks coach. Always appreciate the insight.
    They should have played Allar more. They knew they couldn't beat Michigan or OSU with the QB they had last year, they should have taken the beatings last year so PSU could be in a much better situation with the QB. Now the learning curve will be this year with all that implies.

    • @ForTheBlogy
      @ForTheBlogy  Год назад +1

      We appreciate your loyal viewership, TeeKay. And, yes, we agree and felt that Allar should have been inserted into some high-leverage situations last year ala JJ McCarthy's freshman year at Michigan even though McNamara was the starter...a 2nd quarter series here and there would have been invaluable. With that said, considering the LEAP Drew made from last April (remember how off he looked in the BW Game?) to his debut vs Purdue, we think/hope the learning curve will be minimal this season as the starter.

      You can’t sacrifice the game just for a Frosh and future. Not fair to upperclassmen who are trying to get drafted and into best bowl game possible for visibility.

    • @amyscharmer1191
      @amyscharmer1191 Год назад +1

      The visibility for the program being in and winning the Rose bowl, against a quality opponent was worth more to PSU than the experience he would have gained if they were playing Boston College in the pinstripe bowl that no one watches anyway. Just for the recruitment factor alone, it was the right move for the team.

    • @teekay_1
      @teekay_1 Год назад

      @@amyscharmer1191 Not sure if that's true if they go 5-5 this year. The net effect is the same. And keep in mind the only reason they got to the Rose Bowl was a fluke. The team who earned it was there last year and so they chose the runner up.
