ABOUT THE GOOD PLACE
From creator Michael Schur (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Parks and Recreation” and “Master of None”) comes a unique comedy about what makes a good person. The show follows Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell, “House of Lies,” “Veronica Mars”), an ordinary woman who enters the afterlife, and thanks to some kind of error, is sent to the Good Place instead of the Bad Place (which is definitely where she belongs). While hiding in plain sight from Good Place Architect Michael (Ted Danson - “Cheers,” “CSI” - in an Emmy Award-nominated performance), she’s determined to shed her old way of living and earn her spot.

It’s a shame that Michael never gave in and showed Jason his true form later. I could picture michael going off screen. A zipping sound, then you see Jason’s face light up as he looks high above his head, smiles and slowly says “dooooooope”
I really thought Michael would show his true form when he and Jason went to the bad place to rescue Janet.
That would’ve been cool
for me it’s “oh dip”
@@keeper21br or maybe the whole gang, at the end or something, destroying the demons or some suff like that, but HEY, is fine :P
And this makes me sad that Michael is ashamed of his true form so that would hopefully include him actually learning to love himself
Micheal: Also, we're working on an NBC budget.
And if bk 99 tells you anything, that ain't much
@@Ricardo5911jakakak yeah, upset it's ending but happy at the same time
@@pandamoon613UvU same, I loved the ending though I cried, made me happy seeing Michael finally become human, would've loved if the last season was us watching him get used to the human world and do human things
"Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees, I keep saying." Jason is all of us.
Michael doesn't know humans half as well as he thinks he does if he thinks 99% of us wouldn't trip over our own feet in the hurry to befriend an enormous fire squid
@monokhem I've been to AvCon and got though it just fine. He can't smell worse than that.
Derin Edala right?
I want to be friends with a fire squid who has the voice of Ted Dancin... 🥺
No.
Michael an ancient demon: Who the hell would want to see a disgusting giant squid?
Jason a millennial: Meeeeeeee!
This is what I love about my generation.

Me too and I'm a Boomer
I will say I was very suspicious when Janet didn’t go “not a girl” and I’m so glad my suspicions were right
Gunnhfran2 yeah me too
Gunnhfran2 I was too. I immediately knew something was wrong
I'm also suspicious when Michael called Eleanor "Shellstrop", he'd never done that before and Kristen had confusion on her face when he said it.
lisamaree258 yeah I agree that threw me as well and I thought a first until the Janet bit that is how Eleanor would solve it
Since season two I've been saying that along with her and when she didnt say it in this episode I knew
The genuine fear in his voice sold the scene.
He was scared that his friends wouldn't see him the same way anymore. He'd developed a real, human sense of self esteem and he wanted his friends to love him. Michael is so fragile and he's my favorite character by a long shot.
The most down-to-earth portrayal of a man confessing he’s a fire squid ever put to television
And it's such a difficult trope to get right too.
I mean, it’s alright… but it’s been done so much that they really were really just working around not “copying” the really great examples that everyone has ingrained in memory.
The most absurd dialogue to ever break my heart.
This whole show in a nutshell.
I know, right?
Yeah, if anything, Michael’s true form being SO absurdly disgusting is part of why the scene works. Michael wants the humans to view him as their equal, and after seeing him in such a blatantly inhuman and demonic way, it’d be kind of hard for them to do that.
This is such a sweet moment between them and really shows how far Michael has come. A lot of people seemed to want an obvious "tell us something only Michael could tell us" moment, but this is literally it. Vicky could never have said something with so much compassion and so much longing for connection.
Greatest show ever.
Vicky would probably turn it on them and get angry.
it was quite funny, but there are better shows
Vicky is method. She could totally pull this off.
@@alphanerd7221 But would she _think_ to? The real Vicky can't play a convincing fake Michael in the next episode, because she has no understanding of his motivation; none of the demons do, because none of them are inside his ganglion.
@@i-am-linja It's not not Michael is a big mystery.
That's actually really impressive. All the demons we have seen walking around without human suits were just three metre tall lava monsters. Michael being a 1.8 km tall fire squid the size of a mountain means he must be immensely powerful in his original form.
And he was a *failing* demon desk jockey at the beginning lol
There's just gotta be dragons somewhere in there. Probably the slacker programmers.
Naw, the lava monsters were the lowest class torturers. The demons usually in skin suits are probably crazy
There's also that tall toothy slug thing that Michael talked with while grabbing the pins.
Are me & Jason the only ones who wants to see Michael's true form???!!!
Lol; I think the idea is that supposed to be left up to the viewer's imagination.
I assume they don't have it in the budget to truly show a 6000 foot tall fire squid demon with teeth, and if they did, they should probably spend that budget on something else.
;)
Nope same
@@carealoo744 I know that it's supposed to be left to the imagination, but I'm really curious aaa
@@SpongeTronD-jo9lp Yes.
@@SpongeTronD-jo9lp ... Do you know how tall 6000 feet is, and how much CGI would need to be put in, to make it truly seem like a horror that the viewer wouldn't be able to handle?
I’m with Jason. He’s basically saying he’s Cthulhu’s cooler older brother.
Imagine the sanity loss just for taking a glimpse at that. But I’m with Jason, I’d want to take a look 😅
Yep
I mean, there’s also the whole “if humans look at a celestial being in its native form, they’ll become braindead” thing.
Should be safe for jason then

Considering from his description, Michael's name might also be Cthullu, that's probably correct.
@@adamfuge8557 then again he doesn't have one lol
Why don’t they just pull the old fashioned “tell us something only the real Michael would know” move
Well, what could he say, that the other demons wouldn't know?
Eleanor and Eleanor's mom's meet up....i am sure thats personal
@@veena1409 Not really.
Remember, the deamons have full-records of every action that is ever done on Earth.
Michael knew that Eleanor had: 'fequent sex-dreams of Sam the Eagal, from The Muppets,' which I'm pretty sure is much more personal than her meeting with her Mom. ;)
@@carealoo744 "on The train to the bad place what did Janet conjure?" don't give a specific number of the items but ask him for it.
That’d be an easy out for the writers and The Good Place isn’t the kind of show that takes easy outs
I love that sense of wonder of Jason’s. He may not be the smartest person in the world, but he has a way of making people happy. Remember how he cheered up tahani about her party planning?
Emotional intelligence, not intellectual intelligence
Emotionally speaking, Jason is smart as hell. And the only reason he's not book smart is because he was raised in an underfunded education system with bad role models who taught him to see crime as a valid option to get out of his situation, and no guide for impulse control -- he's not intellectually smart about the ethical and legal decisions he makes and turns to crime because of *poverty.* Jason demonstrates the fact we should all know, that crime is a symptom of poverty, and that a system of right and wrong (and punishing the latter) that relies on your parents income and your access to educational opportunities as factors is one set up to put a moral equivalence on wealth -- to equate one's wealth as a sign of being a good person, in and of itself -- which is what made the US so imbalanced as a country to begin with.
@@rachelfox8108 mate he's dumb
I understand why Michael won't take off his suit so he won't ruin the experiment but come on dude your friends will still love you even if you are a 6,000-foot fire squid with a lot of tentacles and goo and on fire.
honestly, I really hope before the end of the series we see what Michael really looks like.
They could’ve just taken Michael far away from the fake Good Place then got him to remove the skin suit, The Medium Place is pretty big
Lol; I think the idea is that supposed to be left up to the viewer's imagination.
I assume they don't have it in the budget to truly show a 6000 foot tall fire squid demon with teeth, and if they did, they should probably spend that budget on something else.
;)
I'm also fairly certain that will never actually see what's in the good place, or the bad place.
I assume we'll never see the good place, because what we would see as reward, is subjective. Remember, the people who make this show, are humans, like us. What could they possibly show us as Heaven, that would satisfy each and every viewer, that they would be able to imagine spending full on eternity there, without ever getting bored? (Of course, this is even if: 'The Good Place,' exists, at all... ;)
However, the bad place will most likely not be shown, not because torture is subjective, as I'm pretty sure that having your stomach cut open with saw blades, with your mouth full of fleas, being boiled in a tub full of scorpions, we can all agree would be torture. But, would you really want to see that? I think the show is constantly been trying to tell us, but it's not going to show us the bad place, not just because they don't have it in the budget to show that kind of stuff, but also because our minds wouldn't be able to take it.
I know, us humans go through a lot of crap now, especially in these times, and chances are if they do show Michaels true form, we will be able to handle it, but that's because that this show is run by humans, and they will be able to handle what they themselves draw out.
It's like: 'Bird-Box.' We don't know if the monsters are super ugly, or hypnotized us, or show us our greatest fear, or our greatest regret; All that we know, is that if you see one, you're dead. But, what could the creators have possibly shown the viewer, that would have satisfied that? :)
And teeth. Don't forget the teeth.
no they shouldtn show the michaels demon form. The last few seasons showed michael becoming human but if they show michael as a demon then it would dehumanize him
I've been wondering for quite a while what exactly Michael is beneath the skin suit, and I think I speak for everyone when I say that I want to see Michael's true form as a fire squid. When it's not catastrophically threatening for the whole neighborhood experiment, that is.
Series finale Kaiju fight between Michale and Shawns true form. Would be totally out of theme with a show about self improvement but it would be epic
Me too
Don't bother to search "Michael Fire Squid Fan Art". It's mostly a letdown.
When kristen says "show us what you're working with" I just laugh because it reminds me of her dancing in the season 1 bloopers.

My mind immediately went to Bo Burnham lol
So damn good! Jason speaking for the audience, make this happen!

@monokhem No I remember. He may not have been the smartest crayon, but maybe the aftelife has made him smarter.
jason was the perfect audience avatar here. I was literally thinking every single thought he said a second before he said them
I reeeaaally hope this is a set up for Michael having to squid up for a kaiju battle in the finale.
We all love our giant fire squid
That would have been sick.
Against an acid snake
I was expecting him to merely be demon essence that is too complicated to be comprehended by the human mind, and would literally explode them if viewed upon. But this way works too
Boring essence of demon, vs gross slimey fire squid that's 6000 ft tall
I know what I'm picking
A list of shirt I wanna see:
1. The ACTUAL Bad Place
2. Michael taking off his "demon Spanx"
3. Jason get some sort of brain cell
1. The ACTUAL bad place is too graphic for mainstream television
2. They are DEFINITELY going to show the real Michael, otherwise they wouldn't have described him in such detail.
3. Jason clearly has some intelligence to him, he's the only one who realized that it was Bad Janet

Man, Ted Danson sounds very convincing and real when he is too embarrassed and scared to show Michael's true form.
We better see Michael's fire squid form later in the season
“I’m a fire squid.”

Lol Jason response to everything is so innocent ❤️😅😂🤣
There’s something so wonderful about how excited Jason is about Michael’s true form, and then Michael names his future dog after him😭❤️
"There's so much juice, Eleanor."
I am legit impressed at how much emotion was put in that line. How do you capture so much inner turmoil and embarrassment in a line so ridiculous? This show needs more awards.
Ellen: "I've seen a lot of weird hogs in my day, dude. Get over yourself." Best. Line. Ever.
Her name is Eleanor
Sounds like something out of lovecraft...
I want to see it
I guess alot of demons from the bad place are lovecraftian like creatures!
@@davidalves31057 The ones weve seen are pretty tame. I imagine older demons like Michael might be a bit more primordial and powerful.
Wait aren’t like lovecraft monsters are like well unwatchable?
Not like lame more like it literally make you insane just from watching it
This is the only time I have ever 100% agreed with Jason on something. Michael might find his true form embarrassing but it sounds AWESOME!
Michael we’ll love you no matter what
Sometimes when I rewatch the show, I find myself imagining a fire squid doing whatever Michael’s doing. It feels weird doing that. Like, it’s hard to imagine this ginormous fire squid being genuine about wanting to save humanity. Even minor stuff like Michael getting giddy about a place that was once a Pizza Hut AND a Taco Bell didn’t sit right. And I know it’s wrong to think like that, because no matter what he looks like, Michael would still be Michael. But I just couldn’t shake off that feeling. So, to put it lightly, doing that made me totally understand why Michael would refuse to let his friends see him in his true form.
I like that idea 💡
On the other hand, would you go around imagining people like the Pope or Kim Jung Un, or your parents or personal enemies, or school teachers _naked_ when you remember them doing things ?
Scenes like that and "the reason you won't get out of your demon spanx" line make me miss the show already. Imagine, this season is all we have left of it, guys... damn you! Damn you...
I'm actually quite happy, in a sense, that they're ending it on their own terms. Like, it wasn't cancelled at a point where the suspense called for another season so we'll get a proper resolution, and it might be over but at least we're going to get a great ending instead of a show running on empty for 13 more seasons.
Eleanor in the finale episode: Fire squids are heavy.
I love this series, I’m just sad this is the last season 😢, but at least it shall end properly.
“I’ve seen a lot of weird hogs in my life dude. Get over yourself.”
“That’s not it!”
That got me good.
I can't wait for the fan art
Michael's a cosmic horror confirmed
I need to see this as well. Also the tarantula squid. Has everyone forgotten about the tarantula squid ?!?
For once in the show, I think Jason was the most relatable character in the scene.
*Michael:* I'm a fire squid.
*Jason:* Dope!
*Michael:* No, not dope.
This is seriously the best show ever
Yes I keep saying!!🤣🤣🤣
Quick! Someone make a Fire SquiD Michael fanart cosmic horror style!
For some reason after a watching this episode and I went to bed I had a dream on what he looked like.
I can't wait to watch it tonight!
Ted D grew into his role so well!
His neck is long! That’s the scariest part
Idk why Michael's description of his true self is so damn hilarious to me.
You know I can help but not some body dysphoria parallels with Michael's behavior. Like he clearly is extremely uncomfortable with what he looks like, he reacts with visible disgust simply describing his appearance, and his final wish in the series is to stop being that and be a human.
Can’t wait for this to go on Netflix :))
it would be so cool if could accually see the Fire Squid
OMG sooo cool and yes, everybody needs to see this.
For comparison, the current tallest skyscraper is only a little over 1/3 of his height... If Michael was on earth and came out of his suit and he wasn't in somewhere as desolate as a desert, he'd probably cause an ecological disaster without meaning to.
And to be fair Jason's reaction is so relatable, how else would you react to finding out your friend is actually something involving fire and marine life? Those two things don't go together!
I'm totally on Jason's page here: Yes I'm absolutely positively sure that I want to see a 6000f fire squid and be friends with it!
I get what Michael is saying. He has spent so much effort learning how to become human and the acceptance of the team as a human-like person has become really important. Even if they still accept Michael the person they wouldn't really think of him in human terms anymore and for Michael who is trying so hard that would be sad. That plus it would be like showing old high-school pictures of you fat with zits, braces, bad outdated hair, disproportionate limbs, and outdated clothes with a slogan or something that is now considered racist to your friends after they only knew your hot older version.
So. Well. Done.
This is a fascinating little moment to me that does a lot of work foreshadowing michael's ending. He TRULY never wanted to be a demon. He was evil, don't get me wrong, due to the environment he was created in, but his heart was never in it. His method of torturing humans was not only the most lenient, but also the most... human. He has always longed to connect with them, and unlike other demons who use the skinsuits as interchangeable disguises, he values his human identity more than his demon identity. He's basically trans.
I'm not so sure... I definitely think he was like that later on, but in season 1 and the greater part of season 2 he seemed pretty much on board with the Bad Place agenda and pretty contemptuous towards humans.
I want to see Michael's Origin story.
You know, I just had a thought..since Tahani went to the Bad Place being her motives were unpure, I'm surprised someone like Jason didn't at least have a chance..since even though he did bad things, we were never really shown him feeling any malice. Although, now that I think about it I guess the system was favoring the Bad Place, so it makes sense that both situations would lead to someone going down.
Hadn't had anyone in a century or two I think. So even the famous humanitarians might not have gotten in, for eating half a sandwich one time or something.
@@bustinarant it was little more complicated then that see all the people that had gotten into the Good Place had driven the average points needed way up making it hard to accumulate the necessary points in a single lifetime not to mention most people in are modern age keep accidentally wracking up bad points due to there unintended consequences by buying certain products there were getting bad points for unknowingly supporting racism, sexism, and even slavery and the accounting department didn't realize the issue because there meant to be perfectly neutral and judge based solely on what the person's actions were without considering why they did them in the first place
The twists in this episode though
Michael is adorable 🥰
We need more Chidi honestly, I have been disappointed with the lack of Chidi in these episodes
Guys it's probably like one of those lovecraft beings
You probably wouldnt die or go insane from looking at it but it would traumatize most probs

Come onnnn! At least an extra little short of fire squid Michael!!! I need to see that! It sounds freakin epic!!!
This is Sara Corbello I can't believe it's the final season going miss this show
Who else is bummed that we never got to see the Fire Squid? This is the Bad Place!
Here we see Michael really became the good place architect that he was pretending to be and he developed real sense of compassion and empathy
And the real fear he had that the friends he loved would never look at him the same again was worth risking everything is just amazing writing and acting by Ted
So perfectly Acted!!!
Ted Danson is amazing.
While I was disappointed by episodes 2 and 3, this episode is exactly what I expected from a Good Place episode!
Well then the Good Place! You get a standing ovation from me! I'm glad to see, that you're back on track! :)
NEW THEORY: so we saw Micheal change and I believe we saw Glenn change (especially in The Selection series on NBC). Vicky is just like Michael was at the start of the series. Hated humans, Thought all humans were bad, etc. Maybe that is Vicky in a Michael suit and after spending time with the humans she grew a bond with them. That could explain the emotional moments between Michael(Vicky) and Eleanor and maybe that’s why he got so emotional when Glenn called him out on actually being Vicky. I think it will be a good turn for Vicky to be part of team cockroach as well as Glenn and maybe slowly more and more demons will become good and there will be a good demon vs bad demon brawl.
I really hope episodes 2 and 3 are going to be the only episodes without real twists.
I remember, near the end of Season 3 Episode 13, I thought to myself:
'Oh, Shoot; Are we going to have an entire Season of this bull-crap?'
Once I heard Season 4 will be the final season, I reassured myself at that couldn't possibly be the case, as there must be more to the story coming up.
Episode 1 I was entertained by enough, I'm mainly because I was just excited to see the show back, and there was that twist that one of the new subjects was a demon.
But then episodes two and three came by, and we're just pretty much exactly what Season 3 Episode 13 made us believe this Season would be about.
I don't mean to sound unreasonable, but seeing as this show relied mainly on twists and Cliffhangers, intended to drop the ball right before we get bored with a certain subject, I started to get impatient, which is why I assume this is the final Season. Because they know that they can't keep satisfying this format, being quite literally changing the format every few episodes, forever.
Episode 4 has restored my faith, and I'm sure that Episode 2 was just to introduce us to Brent, and Episode 3 was just to introduce us to John.
Now that that is done, I'm sure we can start actually doing stuff, with them. (I Hope!)
I actually thought that there’s something wrong with Janet
Exactly! In Episode 3 the real Janet would never suggest punching Brent, despite how annoying he is. If you watch that scene again, Janet seems pissed when Tahani doesn't take her suggestion.
12345starbucks and she seemed so annoyed with everything
Jana Ghazi like bad janets are. Good janets are usually pretty calm and accommodating about things
That's quite cool
We never get to see him as a fire squid 🙁
I like how he's just playing with the grabber when they walk in.
Accounting department: So how would we considered H. P. Lovecraft works? He got most of us described on point.
Embarrassed Cthulhu just wants to be friends, not fry your brain.
Anyone else have to pause and cackle for five minutes at the fire squid bit
“I’ve seen a lot of weird hogs in my life,” 🤣
the very point he was making was that he wasn't embarassed lol
There should've been a fight between demons, like Michael in his squid form and Shawn in his demon form..... Michael should've won and the fight should've ended with a hug. That would be both cool and heartwarming
why did they post an episode highlight before it aired?
Lemonine probably to get people excited about the episode
And my neck is *L O N G*
I knew the moment the bad place showed up to get the demon guy that someone had been switched. Knew it!
1829m tall, for us metric folkes
One of the few things I'm disappointed in this show is we never got to see a glimpse of Michael's fire squid form. For a show that uses CGI often to get super weird, I'm surprised they didn't at least do it once to show us the fire squid.
I really feel like Jason was the purest one in the whole group lol
Jason speaks for me.
Yes I keep saying
6,000 -foot-tall fire squid? awww, michael is so smol!
