I think what we got is more likely for a space marine deployment. Quick targeted raids against important targets. Space Marines aren't supposed to be ground pounders.

If the guard were called in then they’re probably dead. After all the pdf just exists to see how fast they die. The faster they die the worse the threat.

If you listen onboard the ship, the Captain is told the Governor is using the PDF to keep the populace under control and resist riots, instead of assisting the Cadians on the front. acheran very reasonably is very pissed at this withdrawal of very much needed forces, pointing out the Cadian force can't hold the frontline along on the Governor's own world. So no, not dead. Just playing police right now.
