    I like that your review is brief yet you hit most of the important points.
    If this tool has lifetime free updates, lifetime maintenance functions, lifetime coding, then it is a game changer for sure. I do not know of any scantool that has lifetime coding capability. Maybe xtool?
    One thing I hate that manufacturers do is that they list what it can do but they never list what it cannot do.
    It seems that this one cannot:
    -Perform online coding
    -program ecu/firmware
    -No vag guided functions
    -Graph more than 4 data PID
    -topology map

      Thanks mate!
      Yea, I don't know any tool that has lifetime coding. The 689 certainly doesn't do ECU programming, that would be too much of an ask at the point. You're also right on no topology scan. Will check online coding/VAG guided functions when I have the opportunity.

      Which affordable scanner does ecu/firmware programing? Launch?

    Thanks for the review man!
    It would be great if you show us in a next video about key programming on that scanner, like you said on the Honda!!!

    The competition is heating up. I have a Launch x431 scanner and love it. It comes with free lifetime software for one manufacturer and its subsidiaries. But all others are yearly subscriptions.

      That, my friend is what excites me the most; the competition heating up.
      Soon other manufacturers will have to follow suit. We shouldn't have to keep paying steep subscription fees.

    • @MrSamPhoenix

      @ Agreed! I naught myself a Launch CReader x431 months ago. It’s great, but I have to pay a yearly subscription fee for other makes… that sucks.

      Only got 2yrs free with a x431 then it's 450$ to renew

    Another option which I own is Youcanic. No subscriptions. Just purchase once and update as long as the scanner does not die from old age. Uses bluetooth to read the dongle. No cable needed.

    • @DIYAutoworksNG
      @DIYAutoworksNG  2 дня назад

      That's great to hear. Does it also support bidirectional/ECU coding?

    • @perryallan3524
      @perryallan3524 2 дня назад

      @@DIYAutoworksNG I'm not sure of he full capabilities in regards to programming. It can reset ABS and other systems. It had bidirectional testing, etc.
      I personally think if I have to replace and ECU that its likely cheaper to pay someone to do it than to maintain the equipment needed, and subscriptions needed, to do it.
      You should test their scanner. Recently they included a video probe camera with the scanner. Something other companies charge for.
      Youcanic also has a subscription service for factory maintenance manuals and procedure for your car (I think for $39/year). I will likely be buying that - at least for 1 year just to download all the wiring diagrams and other things.

      Regarding scanners. I encourage you to start with what you can afford. I started with one of those very cheap ELM dongles that only did generic codes. But through that, I learnt the basics of reading livedata etc. I got that for less than $10.

    One Downside is that ThinkCar is not Yet part of the NISSAN AUTOAUTH. I wonder if that changes for the future

    • @DIYAutoworksNG
      @DIYAutoworksNG  3 часа назад

      I see. I did see a portal for purchasing an FCA AutoAuth pass on the tool. Honestly didn't know Nissan uses AutoAuth (not one of the brands I'm close to). Good flag. From what year?

    • @jasonc.4683
      @jasonc.4683 26 минут назад

      @DIYAutoworksNG mostly 2020 and up. Like the Rogue and Pathfinder that I seen. They are blocking all functionality without having autoauth even code clearing.

      The 689BT has exact same functions. The Bluethoot wireless connection is just the difference.
      Got you on FCA SGW online! There's a portal for purchasing from AutoAuth on the tool.

      I have the 689BT. I used the Wi-Fi in my driveway, and it had no problems connecting or staying connected. I like the unit, and I have been playing with most of the features. There are a lot of menus to get into, and even more to dive into each component within the menus. I love the LIVE feature because you can actually see what your components are doing. I have three other OBD2 dongle scanners for my phone, none of which I liked, but I think this blows them all away. you can take screenshots. and record live reports, along with regular reports. you can save them, and email them to whatever email you want. all the emails were received in my inbox. all in all, I love this unit. I think they are always working on updates, and they will improve even more. it does not have mapping, but I hope to see this in the future. It will be a learning curve until you know what everything does. while in the truck I go to the browser and look up the codes, or what the live reading are supposed to read for my auto. I love that it does just about every auto, where other scanners only work with certain vehicles. I originally purchased it to do a PDF regeneration, which more the paid for this unit on that savings alone. But I love all the other features and you got to love the real-time LIVE scan. It is a very nice scanner. as far as price. I searched and found a discount code for - $110.00 and -$220.48 off and used both on the order. you do the math. hope this helps.

    Does it have the feature of showing the ATF fluid temperature for those sealed transmission? Second question. Can it show you the temperature of the coolant?

    • @DIYAutoworksNG
      @DIYAutoworksNG  3 дня назад

      I was able to read the transmission fluid temp on both the Honda and the Toyota. I didn't check on the Benz. Affirmative on coolant temp.

    I think you should better clarify the lifetime update. Because as mentioned in some brochures thats full system diagnostic lifetime update. Yeah you will be able to scan and delete but i think most of it capabilities will be restricted. Because ive seen many reviews about the dongle type from the same company that being restricted after the subscription.
    Hope it has been changed and you are correct then that would be really a bang for our buck!

    • @DIYAutoworksNG
      @DIYAutoworksNG  5 дней назад +1

      . The dongle type has it in the fine detail that certain functions will cease except you pay a fee, but not this one. No restrictions at all. I also asked the company (while prepping the video) point blank whether functions will be withdrawn at any point, their answer was that functions will rather be added.
