    Even in the set, I don't see Gerard Butler, I see King Leonidas. One of the best movie no doubt.

    It most certainly did pay off. Most likely one of the greatest of visual, acting skill and delivery, of all time. A true work of art I’m every way, shape, and form. I will miss this film when I’m dead.

    I've come very close to obtaining the body that Gerard has in this movie, and it is no wonder he didnt keep it after filming. What it takes to have this kind of physique is just mind numbing and grueling work, its just no way to live. Its basically torture.

    • @Jaysann22
      @Jaysann22 10 лет назад +13

      Well more power to you if thats how one wants to live. However, when having that sort of body, you lose A LOT of strength. Sure you look good in a swimsuit, but you're not going to get your genetic potential at strength. Its simple biology. You cant have both. I dont mean you cant be strong and cut, i just mean if you're real cut, you're strong, but you're not as strong as you could be. And i would rather be stronger than leaner. To me and my lifestyle, strength is much more useful than looks.

    • @simonjorgensen623
      @simonjorgensen623 10 лет назад

      Jaysann22
      Well either way if you want to be strong or lean you will have to train hard.
      And lets say i could benchpress 250 kg but because im lean i would not have so much carbs and energi in my body i suggest your statement is about being "weaker" , i would only lift 220 kg ...well that is still pretty fucking strong AND i look shredded ...win - win situation ! i am only 18 soon to be 19 and i benchpress 120 kg and that is pretty strong ! and still im lean.

    • @Jaysann22
      @Jaysann22 10 лет назад +2

      Simon Jörgensen Didnt argue your point. Just saying you could be stronger if you werent focused on being "shredded". I too was quite strong when "shredded" but the diet was too boring and I simply find being even STRONGER more useful. Im not some kind of a fat blob now, I just dont have full definition like I used to. Its not a matter of who is right, its just a lifestyle choice.

    And here I thought that Spartan spear and shield combat had such uncanny similarities to sibat and kalasag fighting... then it turns out it _is_ cinematised sibat and kalasag fighting.

    • @Ranger215able

      It looks good, but I think just doing a simple Phalanx formation would have sufficed, even for a movie.
      I especially would loved to see the Spartan short sword in action instead of the Kopis. Would have been limited in fighting and killing but it would have showed how much of a disadvantage the Persians would have been when they got close. It would have also put a great deal of understanding to the importance of the Spartan Shield.

    There are historical evidence of how they fought but i dont think they really do any reasons, the movie is based on a comic anyway so its still cool

    • @scarecrow2097
      @scarecrow2097 8 лет назад

      +RPMWolfsschanze yet am 100% sure they didn't do circles right in front of their enemy or swing their spears like they were wipes or something xD And there are some historical based things they could do when fighting in phalanx formation that would make the shield wall scene ever more awesome.

    • @scarecrow2097
      @scarecrow2097 8 лет назад

      +RPMWolfsschanze yeah but in my opinion a "front up-back down" formation would be very nice. First the Spartans stoping the charge. Push all together the Persians off the wall then the first line rises the spears up and stab the front two-three lines of the Persians from above then the second line use under-arm and place/secure their spears on the shoulders of the first line and deliver a heavy thrust to the first line of the Persians. A shield wall like this would be very epic looking I think. Especially seen the Spartans push off the Persians and then with their spears overarm stab from above the heads of the Persians like fish getting stabbed by harpoons.....Of course we have no records of this but it would still look more historical and badass i think and who knows it might had happen because there are many ways to form the first three lines of the phalanx when it comes to the spear positions.

    • @scarecrow2097
      @scarecrow2097 8 лет назад

      i think the way phalanx works is not something crazy that needs more than oen or two pictures or records to know how it was done. and the formations could be many for example front line overarm second underarm or the other way around or the first line sit down making a stationary shieldwall while the other two hold formations like the last ones or make triangles instead of straight lines etc. considering that those people had the mind to think what its more suitable for the situation then their are more than 5 ways a phalanx could be done as long is working.

    Am I hearing them right? "There no record of what combative tactics the Spartans used." Kind of odd that numerous experts in the Greek martial art of Pankration knew exactly how ancient Greeks used to fight both unarmed and armed. I don't know why they couldn't have had at least one expert of Pankration collaborate with the stunt and fight choreographer. Thankfully they didn't make that same mistake in the Dead lands film, where all tend actors had to be schooled in both the Maori language and martial arts.

    • @panosa2502
      @panosa2502 7 лет назад

      This is a long standing trend - anything to do with Greek history, western Europeans think they know it all themselves and the last they will as is a Greek expert. Mind you this is a movie - imagine how grave this is when it happens in the academic world. 20th century greatest archaeologist was Manolis Andronikos, the man who excavated the royal tombs of the Macedonian capital and found Philip II's tomb, yet the amount of attacks he received and the viciousness is unbelievable... see they could not forgive him for being a Greek. Such finds had to be reserved only for western European or North American archaeologists...

    Um, just saying, but Sparta was around when Athens was at it's zenith of power, so you could look at most Greek citystate armies to find some information. They fought as a phalanx, which was adopted by many other armies, and likely was around in some form before Sparta.

    There were a few scenes though where one Spartan is fighting a bunch of Immortals and they just keep rushing him one at a time and get slaughtered, couldn't they wait literally 10 seconds to get a few more guys up there and surround him? I suppose this was done for entertainment purposes but it seems strange when you watch it.

      Well it is a movie so they have to make it look cool. If they replaced the Kopis with the short sword as Spartans preferred, then it changed the way they fought. We would have then seen how important the Spartan shield was to them.

      ***** Not really, he doesn't. Maybe he did by today's superhero standards back in the first movie, but his arms are pretty big now. Remember in the Wolverine movie when he was chopping that tree that was blocking the road? I couldn't believe so many veins can show in a single part. Cavill is massive as well, but he didn't have that great a definition. At least from what I saw in that one scene when he's walking around shirtless after the explosion in the beginning of Man of Steel. And he's young enough to have it much easier than Jackman.
