    You're amazing! Thank you! - Of all the TKR patients you've treated over the years, and I know it's different for everyone. how many weeks/months can the new knee improve in terms of "bend" ?

      @totaltherapysolutions  5 лет назад +4

      Delina I see so many different opinions on this. In the clinical research and articles I see “up to 2 years of improvement.”
      But if you look at a person without surgery there is no real limit. Start a yoga class at age 65 and you will improve mobility.
      So I truly believe you may improve range at any stage and timeframe as long as you follow the slow and steady mantra and never give up.

    Poor woman. That's me @ 6 weeks post tkr! Tony is so good! What he says here about "connective tissue" needing longer-duration exercise makes SO much sense!

    Ive been enjoying your vdeos and have listened to many of them. I had a full knee replacement on my left knee one month ago. I also have/had a bakers cyst that conitnues to remain. I dont see any videos on how to treat both. There are some videos out there on bakers cyst but they dont discuss knee replacement. Can you discuss this on a video? Thank you

      I can try to record one. A baker's cyst after knee replacement is pretty common. It should improve with time.

    Hello Tony. Thanks so much for your videos. I had my TKR one month ago and did not really understand how broad the issues associated with the procedure would be. Physical as well as mental.
    Your material has been of such value that I would like to send a donation to help you with your efforts. It there a way I can do this?

    Hi Tony
    I always watch your videos
    I had my first knee done in dec and 2nd knee in feb but I am still getting so much pain in the second knee and a bit of pain in my previous knee . I can’t straighten my leg the one which I got surgery in feb. Doctor said my quad muscles are weak which is preventing my extension and that’s why I am getting so much pain
    I go to physio every week and I am doing all my exercises like sitting on a chair and straightening the leg and holding it there. I do this with ankle weight and a stretchy band.
    Please help me I am so miserable with the pain why is nothing working
    I can walk slowly and it hurts if I stand for a long time or climb the stairs. Please reply me

    I had TKR 10 months ago and an arthroscopic manipulation 8 weeks ago. My problem is that when I use any kind of external pressure, I can achieve the range of motion l’m looking for but I cannot sustain it. That is, one hour later, my flexion and extension has reverted back to the levels before applying the pressure. I’m not looking for specific exercises as much as a strategy to solve this problem. I would also like to thank you for all the advice you give in your videos. During our city lockdown, I relied on them for many helpful exercises.

    • @totaltherapysolutions
      @totaltherapysolutions  3 года назад +1

      Thanks Kay. When the range improves and goes away in a short time frame I refer to it as a chemical problem. The joint chemistry changes with movement, exercise, and the extra pressure, but when the movement stops, the joint stiffens.
      I don't have a good solution other than using short, gentle bouts of motion to keep the joint supple. If I could do 3-5 minutes of exercises every hour or two I am keeping a positive chemical environment in the joint. If I do too much it will tighten up. If I do too little it won't help.
      Then after a week or so I would stop and see what happens.

      Thank you for your prompt response. I didn’t know why this was happening but I came to pretty much the same solution, namely doing short periods of exercise frequently throughout the day. My only complaint is that my entire day basically revolves around exercises for my knee but with the pandemic it’s not that much of a sacrifice. I want to mention that I told my physical therapist about your channel and suggested that he should watch them for his patients who have had a TKR.

      It's me again. Don't get too aggressive with it. It shouldn't cause pain. Another great idea is to use the rolling pin to massage the thigh while you work on knee extension.

    • @marksmith4539
      @marksmith4539 2 года назад

      @@totaltherapysolutions, Okay I won't Tony. Just as long as I am feeling the stretch, I feel as though I am accomplishing the goal. Yes, your rolling pin exercise worked great for me. I have no more thigh or calf pain after doing it twice a day for a week. Slow & steady without straining something. I only did 3 of these, twice today, that was enough for me at week 3. lol Thank's again for all your content Tony, You are such a kind man & physical Therapist. You expect the work but also take the Patients pain level into account also. You are the best!

    Hi Tony i am watching your playlist for knee extension and wanted to know if a person can reach to 5 degree extension will you be able to function properly? Im currently at 9. I also would like to ask if you might have any tips working on going down the stairs. Thanks for all your helpful videos!👍😁

    • @totaltherapysolutions
      @totaltherapysolutions  3 года назад +2

      Thanks so much for always commenting and being so supportive. I have some stairs videos but my favorite recommendation is to just stay on the bottom step and work on stepping down sideways until you are able to turn your body and step down forward.

    • @totaltherapysolutions

      This is a common frustration. I wish I had a solution, but the best I can say is keep working on it and gradually your motion will improve and stiffness will subside.

    I'm 9 and 6 months out from PO and still have 5 degree and 8 degrees. Still taking PT. Lots of pushing and hanging 10 lb weight off of knee in extension. Will I ever get there?

    • @totaltherapysolutions
      @totaltherapysolutions  3 года назад

      Absolutely! And I say that because it sounds like you are doing all the right stuff. If you haven't tried traction, talk to your therapist about it. I have some older videos on this channel about it. Sometimes the knee extension improves with help from pulling at the ankle instead of pushing down at the knee.

    I had acl surgery around 6 months ago and I’ve been having issues with hyper extension (usually at 0 degrees at best during a normal day). I’ve switched to stretching with my leg propped up and some weight hanging from it for some weeks now, and that seems to have helped a bit. BUT the last method with the ball has taken pressure away from my inner knee instantly! I’ll be trying it for a while and see if that helps. Thanks!

      I am draping one ankle weighton my knee in between the two chairs as of yesterday. The back of my knee is complaining but I am going to gently persist. My therapist explained about nerve resistance just like you, almost word for word. This increases my confidence and trust in both of you
