  • Quite the adventure! Back to back days riding. Strong east winds Friday, followed by stong West winds Saturday. (Jan. 12-13) For solo Downwinding this made shuttling and dropping off vechile super efficent.
Wasnt so sure I was going to "send it" friday. My orginally plan was to prone surf. But I couldnt let the oppurtunity/idea/novelty of downwinding one way 1st day and doubling back. Who knows when it will blow that hard one day and the next day in opposite direction?
Anyways decided to go for it. That quick decision and change of plan; resulted in me not bring anything to hydrate with. I wont spoil the rest of the adventure.
    Foil: Lift HAX 150 (970cmsq)
    Tail: Lift 21 Flow
    Mast: 28" M2
    Board: Armstrong 7'2"

I am from the tropics and often “feel cold” when foiling and downwinding. Kudos to you for doing this solo in such weather conditions.

Thanks man! Id love to trade my wetsuit for tropics right now!
Hardest part is just getting out, not bad at all when you’re up and riding!

Love to see this and great to hear you talk about what you missed and the results of poor decisions. As I watched the start of a 2+ hour ride, things like water and some kind of PLB came to mind. I don't surf like that but would love to try it. Thanks for posting and good luck.

Number 1, was no hydration. Sequence of events lead to last min to try it. (Originally planned to ride shore break at another spot)
Always hard to tell what the conditions will be like when winds are offshore, so can’t fault myself for going for it.
Tricky riding conditions when up on foil made for hard work. I was monitoring my distance from shore quite closely. Made sure I KNEW, I could paddle back if shit hit the fan. Worst comes to worst the shoreline to the lee is about 10 km from my ending spot. I Did have a phone with me aswell.
For my paddle in, I hit the “rhumb” line. Timed that quite well. Was pulling on all my water experience. 30 yrs of sailing, competitive swimming, high fitness level, windsurfing kiting boating etc.
It was a good challenge/adventure. I did get more than what a bargained for.

The conditions look good but I'd be sketched out being 3km offshore by myself in those cold conditions. If something goes wrong it can go really wrong really fast in the cold. Good work, though!

I hear ya. Gets into the whole topic of action sports. Risk vs.. reward. Calculated risks etc…
Ya was definitely keeping tabs where I was at. Because u can cover a lot of ground quick. Especially when winds are offshore. I never put myself in a position where I know I won’t make it back by myself. Experience, fitness, comfort level. Also had a cell phone and people can track me.
Important to know your limit and stay with in it.

Epic. Great map view and play by play. Helps me learn more every time. Would be cool to see speed and other details like wing choice, wetsuit, basically all the secrets 🤫 😆. Best advice from todays vid- don’t drink the lake 🤮 water. Keep inspiring us all! 💪

Thanks Carlos! Wetsuit mystic 6/5/4. All gear is in description. With the Lift 150 HAX, top speed for me is about 35km/h. 2nd day mid run was maxing out speed. Go get some 🤙

2h traversing with no water is insane! I need a sip here and there with so much pumping out

Wasn’t full 2 hrs of traversing. Bunch of falls with some breaks. But then some tricky hard paddle ups. Was super tired by then end…
I need to come visit you…

Great ride! The AO Water Bottle Holder by Alpine Outfitters might slide right on to your wing belt.

Thanks. I’ll definitely check that out. I like weight low… compared to your back. Even if it’s a little. Every little bit helps….

That's insane. Water is down to 58 here and I think that is cold

Not as bad as you would think. No chill at all. That being said 58 sure does sound nice right about now!!!
