Thank you Jake. That movie DID make a difference in people's lives. I was proud of you and Heath for doing that movie and for putting so much of yourselves into it, that I have the original movie post framed on my wall. You're a damn good actor and we all miss Heath.
I watched this film last night. Cried my heart out. It is truly phenomenal, and really instills a sense of empathy in you. Just watching them live in so much fear and sadness and desperately wanting to be with each other makes you feel like you never want to be someone who condemns a love between two people. This movie is so devastating and beautiful. RIP Heath, I love you, and Jake, you're magic. If you haven't already, I recommend you watch it.
I finished 15 minutes ago. I couldn't have said any of this better than you did. It is one of the most beautiful films I have ever laid my eyes on. It was heartbreakingly so. Gosh, I'm going to need some time to recover from this ✨
Literally one of the best movies ever made! I went to see it at a local independent theater, which was packed. When the credits rolled, the entire theater was so silent, you could hear a pin drop. I headed towards the restroom and there was a heterosexual man, I would guess in his 40's at the sink, bawling his eyes out. His friends were asking him if he was okay. I have never in my life seen that kind of reaction to a movie. To anyone that has never seen it, I say watch it! You will be amazed at how this story transcends sex and is just about two people who absolutely need to love each other.
It was my life as well. I saw the movie twice. When it first came out and a few years later. I was more impacted by the second time. I felt very angry after watching it, yes I also cried. I was angry because I was in an unresolved love triangle: An un fulfilled husband and wife, an unfulfilled lover , my incapacity to accept that marriage, I felt very angry towards him. The sense of an unfulfilled love , a relationship with limits and a diet of love. We must be very careful with married men.
I love the change in Jake’s demeanour when he reminisces about Heath. He looks and sounds like he did during the Brokeback Mountain press tour. Young, inexperienced, and excitable. It’s all very very bittersweet. Miss you, Heath, you rockstar!
That last scene...Ennis closes the cupboard door and the small window behind it is revealed with a view that is one of the lonliest I've ever seen... it was just heartbreaking. Beautiful movie, a great movie, it will live forever. 💔💔
I saw this in 2005 when I was still a teenager and rewatched it tonight. FIFTEEN years later and the movie still felt fresh, innovative, and beautifully directed not to mention acted. EVERY SINGLE character was flawless. Such powerful themes of love, heartbreak, and impossibility. The fact that it got 8 Oscar nominations, and did NOT win Best Picture has just struck me even harder now that I have a better understanding of the art that was gifted to us and was not fully appreciated by the Academy who considered it good, but not good enough. Guess what, Academy? 15 Years later, and we are STILL discussing this film and its impact. Ledger and Gyllenhaal should have both received Oscars that year.
I love this guy and the movie had a profound impact on my life. I was SO EMOTIONAL after watching the movie I could barely breath...I could barley drive from crying SO HARD. Prior to this, I had not cried in years...I thought I’d lost the ability to cry. At this point, I’ve not been able to watch the movie again.
What is it with this actor - I just can`t stop watching those interviews with him!! Of course there are his movies that offer such a wide spectrum of great entertainment, and yesss, he is a beautiful man, but on top of that he really seems to be a very likeable, intelligent and humorous person. Nice to see there are so many here who appreciate him, too :-)!
Watching his interviews after watching brokeback and I am even more in love with this man now. He is just seems to be a phenomenal person and I love how openly he speaks about everything and has no regrets, and is proud of the work that he does. It's fantastic. Good on you Jake Gyllenhaal 💜
Unlike so many young actors, Gyllenhaal is significant even when he is not reciting words written for him by others. No wonder he was authentic in "Brokeback," a film which, by the way, just gets better and better with time. Too bad those folks at the Academy who nearly choked on the nomination of Lee's solid opus back in the day cannot say the same about their own work.
Saw Brokeback Mountain so many times in a row, found it incredibly moving and powerful as a love story regardless of the homosexual aspect of it. One of my favourite movies of all time, Heath Ledger was hauntingly beautiful.
Only just came across this today. What an incredible person Gyllenhaal is. I loved the movie, heartbreaking though it was, and it has pride of place on my shelf. Wonderful interview with a wonderful guy.
I can't say how wonderfully articulate, compassionate, insightful and honest this gentleman is. I love the diversity of all of his roles. He truly is beautiful.
i want to watch brokeback mountain so bad, but i can’t find it anywhere for free. update: i have now watched it after a month later and i cried. a lot.
I love this man...he speaks so eloquently, and open minded, so natural, his intelligence is, to me, his most attractive quality....even if I was blind, and he sat down and conversed with me, I'd still fall in love with him, because his soul, the energy, that makes him HIM, is so loving and attractive....a beautiful being...
I love this interview…especially how he talks about how good Heath was with the horses. 😂😂😂 I will forever love those 2 men for bringing this love story to life.
Right..the beautiful thing is how much he respects heath.I mean everyone does now but I think he feels privileged to be able to work with him before..When I analyses their acting both of their acting style/approach is same..
I saw this movie for the first time last week and it’s been on my mind almost every waking moment since then. It’s has such a profound impact on my already it’s insane.
As with many, the movie represented my life. Been in love with a guy, going on 13yrs. He's hetero, I'm gay. We been intimate more times that I would ever dreamed. Now we live together. Not as lovers. He stopped being intimate with me, brings home women, while I'm alone in the house. When no women, we sleep separately. I wish I could quit him. How it hurts when he's with females.
Dan Clark, I hope you find a situation that is more worthy of you and your love than what you just described here. Regardless of whether or not he is a good guy, it does not sound like an equal relationship. I wish you the best and hope that you find someone who loves you equally in return. What you are describing is not that. You deserve better.
Dan, that seems very dangerous to me, for your sense of self-worth. Do you NEED to share space with the straight man because of finances or because there was a sexual relationship previously that you still hope can return, even occasionally, by being under the same roof?
He stirs such deep emotion in me that uncontrollably comes to the surface.............always has. He is one human that allows his soul to stand before his image in anything he has done.
woah that's jess gabor from shameless at 1:25! (she played kelly, carl's navy girlfriend) still reeling from watching Brokeback last night for the first time... wow. The actors' performances, the cinematography, the script, the scenery.. and Jake Gyllenhaal speaks so well on the meaning of the movie, it's heartwarming.
Yes it is her, isn’t it. I didn’t even notice to begin with. I’m so glad you enjoyed the film, I saw it in the cinema, way back when it came out. It totally blew me away, and I’ve loved it ever since. My kids grew up with the soundtrack playing in the car, before they’re old enough to ever see the film. Lol
I've got SO much respect for this guy. This world is more than lucky to have Jake Gyllenhaal. I really hope he's genuinely in a good place, like in life, he's the last person on this globe who deserves any kind of suffering. I'm not religious but if there's anything anywhere, may that anything bless him. Yeah, so thank you, Jake. Thanks for being there. Thank you so goddamn much.
I came out in the early 80’s. It was an exciting, electric time. I was young, and met an older man who I was attracted to. One of the stranger things I remember him telling me was men of his generation who were gay, and couldn’t come out to their families, squeaked around lying who they were dating, by calling them “she” or “her”. It was something that was done all the time. Of course their families never got to meet the “girlfriend”, but still could discuss who they were dating. I could never imagine how difficult it would be to live your life like that.
I relate to this movie a lot in many ways but the story hit me harder than I have ever been hit in my life. The more I grew up I figured out the possible consequences for coming out as gay publicly. Though I told one of my close friends then I told my Sister and my supposedly close friend got me ravaged in an alleyway next to a pizza parlor in Austin TX. My sister didn't talk to me for years and just recently got back in contact with me after feeling guilty with the current movements of everything. I could tell it wasn't because she felt guilty it was so she could keep a good public image of herself it was in her eyes and that feeling never left them. My Parents sadly was told by my Sister but luckily they took it a lot better than she did and I still have a strong relationship to this day with them. I tried burying these feelings in the back of my mind but it kept crawling it's way to the surface no matter how hard I tried. Right now I am 47 hoping I could have found someone sooner but couldn't because of my idiotic insecurity after what happened. It's a void just hoping to be filled by someone who understands, that is why I have a deep connection with this movie. (Didn't mean to hold you up with a sad life story my fingers just kept going)
Mr. Gyllenhaal I think is right in that by humanizing a gay relationship that was widely circulated to such great acclaim he absolutely did play a positive role in real life that helped society in general to become more accepting of gay folks. I really did enjoy the film and the scene that still gets me today is the anguish, despair and frank physical pain Mr. Gyllenhaal portrays under the bridge when his friend drives off after their first summer together. To watch someone you truly love just drive off is something horrifying to experience for anyone-regardless the sex of the people involved-and is a universal. Also, when Mr. Ledger smells Mr. Gyllenhaal’s shirt at the end of the film I cry every time even though I’ve seen the scene several times. Thank you for the video. Steve K.
One of the saddest film endings ever created ... impossible to keep a dry eye ... this is one of only a handful of films ever made where the whole audience simply stayed put and did not get up and immediately leave their seats ... everyone was trying to collect themselves ...
Great interviewer and conversation. Glad that interviewers are also more into the film than a decade ago when people only cared about whether they felt uncomfortable when kissing a man.
Watched this movie for the very first time back in July this year, and I cried most of the times, especially when Jack and Ennis had fight. I can't remember any other movie that made me feel speechless and made me think about it all the time after I watched it. Brokeback Mountain is the only movie that did this to me. Made me accept the fact that I love both men and women. But still i'm so afraid of this, except for psychologist, I never told anyone else that I watched this movie because in my country there are lot of homophobes.
I'm so sorry about the homophobia problem in our country, although I do wish and hope for you to be able to love freely and be happy with no shame of who you are. sending you my best wishes and support!!
@@entamame8467 What's even worse, I'm having a battle with anxiety mostly because of this for almost 10 years. I was in love with my former best friend, he cut me off because he was suspicious and a huge homophobe. And this movie brought the memories back to me when I was hanging out with him. I hate him and I don't want to see him anymore, but at the same time I miss him so much "I can hardly stand it".
I remembered how I cried so much after watching this movie. PS: The last movie that made mr cry was Titanic and it was years and years ago. PPS: Im not a cry person, so it takes a very, very sad thing to make me cry.
It's soo clear to why jake is such a great actor... its his human quality's and he's so open minded abt anything and of course his charisma... its what set's him apart from alot of actors that are working today will watch anything with his name on it amazing talent 👏👍
Unfortunately there’s ample evidence that there isn’t a widely held belief that it’s okay for an actor to be gay now. It’s okay for straight actors to play gay characters but there are VERY FEW out gay actors who get cast as leading roles as heterosexuals. I just wrote, directed & produced an award winning play that has a straight male character who sleeps with a man & had problems finding many actors to even audition. Fortunately one of the few actors who did audition was great & I cast him. It seems though that there is a direct correlation between how much money is on offer & how willing men are to play gay, regardless of their sexuality.
This movie won 1 Oscar for writing. How Gyllenhaal didnt win an OscaR, BUT a long forgotten movie did, is outrageous, and shows us they surely wasnt ready for this movie, and history repeated it self.
The film changed so many people’s lives in both subtle & unsubtle ways .I would also say it’s so much more than just a - Gay cowboy- movie....They were also parents and good parents as well...
I’ll never forget seeing brokeback mountain as a teenager in the cinema, and the film wasn’t advertised as a queer story. It was advertised initially as a tale of two friends. So when me and my friends saw it (I’m gay and they were all queer in one way or another) we were pleasantly surprised to see this kind of representation on the big screen! Excellent film!
jake and heath did a great job in hollywood that never gonna happen that easily..Jake gyllenhaal is one of the best actors who is not arrogant at all..he is a great man..🌹I said this1000 times
I'm not saying Jake's wrong, i think both characters struggled equally but in different ways. Like because Jack wanted to be out i think it was the struggle of really strong yearning for something you can "never" have. Ennis to me struggled with the balance and the life he had, to me it was something he couldn't fully give into. it was like he just played his role but wasn't really there. The sadness to me was the isolation they both felt, like a hole only they could fill in each other. Their connection is something i really appreciate. it was comfort in a way.
“Was it hard to play a gay character?” “Nah screw that, it was hard to deal with the horses”

Well said!
I finished 15 minutes ago. I couldn't have said any of this better than you did. It is one of the most beautiful films I have ever laid my eyes on. It was heartbreakingly so. Gosh, I'm going to need some time to recover from this ✨

Just watched it and your comment sums everything I thought
Heath and Jake are two of the most beautiful hearted men I've seen.
Rest in peace Heath.
Fantastic! I've always had a very high opinion of Jake . . . beautiful person.
Nothing pretentious about him at all. Just genuine, inquisitive thought. I'm a fan.
That’s because he’s a Sagittarius like me lol
I love how open Jake is. His parents did a great job.
At his age, his parents role in his attitude isn't that big anymore. It's him who get's most of the credit.
@@RickVietsub I agree. He has become a good person over the time on his own.
@@RickVietsubyep he was 35 at that point
Literally one of the best movies ever made! I went to see it at a local independent theater, which was packed. When the credits rolled, the entire theater was so silent, you could hear a pin drop. I headed towards the restroom and there was a heterosexual man, I would guess in his 40's at the sink, bawling his eyes out. His friends were asking him if he was okay. I have never in my life seen that kind of reaction to a movie. To anyone that has never seen it, I say watch it! You will be amazed at how this story transcends sex and is just about two people who absolutely need to love each other.
That’s so powerful.
About 7-8 years ago this movie was my entire life. All the love I felt for the movie then just came rushing back…
It was my life as well.

"Crash" may have won the Oscar, but "Brokeback Mountain" is the superior film.
Crash fell flat on its face though
It is the best love story ever made, Jack I swear.
Wow. Zero dislikes and an incredibly truthful, real, moving celebrity interview... that's rare.

MrsThroatwobbler-Mangrove Jake is a living legend for sure
Watching his interviews after watching brokeback and I am even more in love with this man now. He is just seems to be a phenomenal person and I love how openly he speaks about everything and has no regrets, and is proud of the work that he does. It's fantastic. Good on you Jake Gyllenhaal 💜
I am not gay and I still think this is one of the most beautiful love stories ever made in cinema.
Are you a woman or a man though?
@@martinledermann1862 how is that relevant
@@dudapinheiro1629 It'd be unusual for a straight guy to write sth like that.
@@martinledermann1862 Stop relying on societal prejudices, it's sad.
I’ve never really seen him interviewed before. His compassion as a human being is amazing.
Love and intimacy can happen with any one. If we don’t fall prey to social Norms or tags
I can't say how wonderfully articulate, compassionate, insightful and honest this gentleman is. I love the diversity of all of his roles. He truly is beautiful.
This movie stayed with me for a very long time..I still feel this is a love story first and it just broke my heart. Excellent movie.
great actor, he and Heath really deliver a great performance of Love on Broke BackM
one of the most beautiful/tragic love stories ever told, definitely one of my favorite stories
I don't think Jake realizes how spiritual he really is ❤️
I think heath influenced him very much.
i want to watch brokeback mountain so bad, but i can’t find it anywhere for free.
update: i have now watched it after a month later and i cried. a lot.
its on prime right now, stars
I watched it like 5 times already. Cried every time haha
it is on netflix now - just watched it again... still the best
Suddenly, Jake is my favorite actor! His voice is so smooth.
this is so refreshing to hear this.....I've struggled with my sexuality and it sucks..but it's okay, his words always move me he's a beautiful person
I like this guy a lot. Very talented, clever, and just a beautiful soul.
What an interesting man, intelligent and insightful.
It hurt when it didn't win best picture when it should've but I was so proud when Moonlight did. Pretty monumental.
Beautiful film. Heath and Jake are brilliant.
Jake is a bloody brilliant actor.
bless him!! & RIP Heath!
Im from Perth Western Australia and let me tell ya there are alot of talented people here its unreal.
Love this so much. Love the film and Heath and Jakes friendship.
Compassionate people whatever their orientation cried at the end of that movie. It's one of the great final scenes in American film.
Jake gave perhaps his most memorable performance in that movie. His vulnerability, his eyes would haunt you well after the movie got over.
Bro that don't sound like hes hetero
Dan, that seems very dangerous to me, for your sense of self-worth. Do you NEED to share space with the straight man because of finances or because there was a sexual
relationship previously that you still hope can return, even occasionally, by being under
the same roof?
A heterosexual man would not have slept with you. Why are men like this today??!! I’m tired of this gay agenda.
Where have real men gone?
Wow what an amazing interview. His words are beautiful
He stirs such deep emotion in me that uncontrollably comes to the surface.............always has.
He is one human that allows his soul to stand before his image in anything he has done.
Finally watched this movie, I cried my eyes out !!
I could listen to him talking for hours. Such a great voice and person.

still reeling from watching Brokeback last night for the first time...
Lol
When I watched it I wasn't expecting to get my heart broken so bad. This movie really sticked to my mind
I’m glad you got to live your truth!
I love this movie. It's very sad. My favourite romance movie ever. I know it's not just about romance but Heath and Jake had such great chemistry.
True..I believe both of them being very different also had something common.they both were insightful..love them
Love this dude! He's such a genuine person in interviews
What a wonderful man and a talented actor!
I cannot summarize in words how much I love him.
Thank you for sharing.
Brokeback Mountain is the best romantic film ever made
I’ve seen it like 12 times and I still cry
He will be with no doubt the recipient of the great honors that has given to Al Pacino or Robert de Niro.
It's soo clear to why jake is such a great actor... its his human quality's and he's so open minded abt anything and of course his charisma... its what set's him apart from alot of actors that are working today will watch anything with his name on it amazing talent 👏👍
It's because he can set apart his characters from himself & can fully transform into that person.
my recovery of sadness take about 2 weeks after watching this movie...
Goosebumps through the interview.
What a forced question “Do you struggle for identity?” ....
Thanks Jake! Very well said! You are one classy, sophisticated, and enlightened guy! Your partner will be very lucky to be with you!!!

I can't believe Jake ONLY has 1 Oscar nomination let along winning. His performance in Nightcrawler was freaking brilliant. Not even a nomination.
Jake is an insanely versatile actor. One of the finest.
Bravo!
Very much enjoyed Jake expressing his thoughts.
