    Love your honest opinions on these mods. I was considering this due to the convenience and that it looked like strong & light polycarb/plastic. After seeing your disappointment that it was just plywood with a coating, I decided to do it myself. Used 3/4 inch plywood and indoor/outdoor carpet for my build. Took about 3 hours, but cost only about 100 bucks with the sound dampening material I added.
    Don't change the way you make these videos in this aspect. The honest feedback and real feel is what makes your channel stand out. Subbed here and instagram.

      @@DIYSpeedGarage 100%. How hard would it be to only remove one seat? It looks like there are a couple components(the rear trim and metal support for the deck) that run the full width, but nothing that is really critical in terms of structure for the seat. I do use the 3rd row once in a while, but its usually only one of the seats. The other side is filled with dogs or baby strollers. Be nice if it could be modular.

    I did not know that about Goose Gear (being just plywood). I thought their platform was plastic like the Decked drawer system or something similar. Fortunately, I made my own before finding your video. I had several Amazon boxes laying around so I cut and taped a template and it worked out perfectly including finding the correct places to add supports on the bottom and mounting holes. After I cut the platform using 1/2 inch plywood, I glued hardwood planks down to make it more durable. I figure that if hardwood floors are good enough for your house, it should be good enough for your car and it looks cool too. On a side note, I put a few nut inserts in the platform for tie downs (and removing for a flat floor) and I also tied into the 110 outlet and added a 12V cigarette outlet while I was back there. My fridge has both kinds of plugs but the 110 needs the 3rd prong for the ground so the 12V round plug is perfect for my needs.

    Would it be ridiculous to remove the 2nd row and leave the 3rd row? Would you gain more space and versatility? I am not sure which would be best. I am not sure which I should remove (and what I can talk my wife into letting me do)

    • @DIYSpeedGarage
      @DIYSpeedGarage  2 года назад

      It really depends on how much space you need. It's not even ridiculous to remove 2nd and 3rd row depending on how much space you need and how many passengers you plan on carrying.
      If i didn't have kids i would remove both rear rows and just leave the front seats.
      You could also remove third row and the small second row seat. The ball is in your court my friend 😉

    Does the plate smash that black module that’s in the center? If I wanted to build my own drawer system would I need to build a housing around it?

    • @DIYSpeedGarage

      No it doesn't, no need for a housing. The plate has little "towers" that elevate it just enough to clear the sensor.

  • @212caboose
    @212caboose 3 года назад +3

    I'm not saying the price is justified, but Goose Gear uses Baltic plywood, which IS far better than what you're going to find at your local big box store. Also, you have to consider the fact that you simply buy it and install it. How long would it take someone to make one, spray the Raptor liner, THEN install it? Again- $500+ is a bit much.

    • @DIYSpeedGarage
      @DIYSpeedGarage  3 года назад +3

      $250-300 is the price range i would consider a "fair" price, that should easily cover materials and labor plus a decent profit. However for $500+ I expected some kind of a nice solid piece of man made high density polyethylene or something of that sort. I don't know.... 😂

      I'm disappointed not that it's plywood but because at the time of my purchase there was no mention in their website of the material that was used, and had I known it was just plywood which was coated in some bedliner material I probably would've made my own exact fit plywood for less than $100. Goose gear makes great products. I used to work with all of their stuff and it might look pricey, but you are paying for all of the r&d that goes into making a product like this. Having the plate system gives you access then to equip the rest of their lineup of products such as their drawers and camp kitchens. They leave extra mounting points for additional expansion of your own. Their plate systems and delete kits both are made to fit the shape of every vehicle you equip their products to. If you were having a hard time installing, you could have certainly called up goose gear or one of their dealers for help.
